- 2 simple methods for clearing out a clogged sunroof drain. I had some water building up in my passenger side floor board. I started by investigating the sunroof as this is a common problem. Ultimately I did not have to remove the glass to clear out the rear drain holes, it was the front that was causing my problem.
This can apply to most any vehicle with a sunroof. The drain lines may be in different locations based on the year make and model of your vehicle so be sure to check your owners manual to identify the location of yours.
Combination of weed eater and air compressor with a bendy straw and I got my ‘10 Escape to drain. Thank you!
Hey Chase- thanks for the video- I fixed my leak with your suggestions. No more wet driver's seat- total repair cost $0!
A simple fix for a simple but aggravating problem.
Thanks!
EXCELLENT VIDEO. I HAVE THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM ON MY 2005 MERCURY MARINER.
You saved my interior I applaude you sir
Hey just to help anyone, I found this problem today. On a 2013, the other end of the drain line is in the body just below the upper hinge for the door. Open the front door, look in the area where the hinges are between the door and body, and just below the upper you will see a circular black port. I was worried that air might pressurize some internal connection and blow it off, because it must be that there is a hose connected at two points. Low air pressure, and also vacuum did not work. I augered it out with trimmer line. The pipe run is between 3 and 4 feet.
Open the sunroof then follow these steps.
1 Take off the left terminal on your battery! 2 Pry open the pillars on the interior. 3 Avoid the curtain airbags! 4 Find the clear drain tubes. 6 detach them and blow the air upward with the sun roof open of coarse. 7 blow downward after detaching from the bottom. 8 reattach and put it back together. 9 Put the left (negative) terminal back on. 10 go underneath the ford escape/mazda tribute/mercury mariner/landrover LR2 DEFENDER and pull the rubber drain plugs in the front sides middle sides and rear of the vehicle. REMEMBER TO NOT HAVE YOUR FACE DIRECTLY UNDERNEATH THE FLOW OF 10 TO 40 GALLONS OF STAGNATED MILDEW WATER!!!!
11 Go to a dealership and get your cabin filter changed. Odds are a colony of tiny ants lives there. They eat the mildew.
You're welcome.
Thanks for sharing, having the same issue with one of ours
Great video! Thanks so much - hopefully this’ll solve the rain water getting in and soaking everything lol
Mine are clogged horribly . I tried weed eater wire , cans of compressed air , coat hanger . Only thing I haven’t tried is an air compressor cause I don’t have one .
You might try a tire repair shop or local mechanic and see if they might be able to blow some compressed air in there for you?
@@ChaseGatyas I will try that thanks
Mines are draining but still make my interior wet, I'm thinking the tube have a hole or something I don't know what to do
Some vehicles have drain holes in the back as well. Mine only has the 2 toward the front but check the rear to make sure there aren't two back there blocked up.
Wow! We are having the same issue this video is perfect. But how does the water get inside the vehicle? I mean if clogged you would then the water would just sit there.
Thank you mucho!
Hope it helped!
Thank you so much this fixed my issue 😊
The problem is the nipple on the end, it gets stuck together, was hoping for video on acces to the nipple so I can cut that sht offf!
I need your help!!!
Thanks I will try this
THANK YOU!!!!!
side note now I need to find out a good way to clean my ceiling after a year of it leaking lol
We have a small hand held steam cleaner that worked great on my carpet, imagine it would work well for the ceiling as well. If not you may find some canned spray upholstery cleaner at the automotive store.
@@ChaseGatyas ok Thanks so much
