I enjoyed this video. I know Capt Tom Herdman and worked with him. And some other the other folks as well. I spent 50 years out there and retired in 2014. This brought back many memories.
This was a great old film about riverboating. It was a good thing it was created when it was to include people like Capt. Coomer. Like some of the folks said at the end, I love the river too. I first went on the river as a very young boy. Thanks for posting this film.
My family had a packet boat line. My great grandfather Capt. Emory Edgington started on the Ohio at age 11 around 1890 and retired as a pilot sometime in the mid-1950’s. His father and brothers were all on the Ohio River too.
Welp my great uncle on my sisters cousins sides mailman seen a guy in front of the post office that said a guy his dad works withs neighbor had a boat back in the day 🤭😂😬😝🙂↔️🧐
This was great! Grew up right on the Ohio River in Toronto, OH which was formerly called Newburg Landing. Nicknamed the "Gem City" by some old riverboat captains. My Great Grandmother used to work on the Delta Queen, the Cricket, the Gordon Green, and the Greenland. Learned that from an oral history she gave that was recorded by my Grandmother. Always great fun trying to get the captains to shine their light on us on the banks when we were kids.
My dad said he had a cousin that retired from the barge company and he said when he first started when ur time was up they would pull up to the bank and drop u off wherever they could he said there was a many of time he would walk 5 miles just to get to a town back then
A guy, my sister‘s neighbor works with was at Walmart one day and started talking to a guy in the checkout line who said his second cousins sister on his cousins side, graduated college with a guy who said some boy he grew up with Dad had a boat back in the day😂🤭😝😬🙂↔️🧐

Excellent film, I love these kind of documentaries, you learn so much, that you never get in a classroom.

Wow! It would've been great to record his memories of that time.
I agree with ship history
