I like the name, goalkeeper. Because it is actually the last line of defense
For sheer gun power, the Chinese 11-barrelled type 1130 CIWS, is a beast, and a Chinese TV report stated that it could stop incoming anti-ship missiles up to a speed of Mach 4 with a 96% success rate.
Then why did they not show it...
The only ones we shoot anything are the American and the Netherland guns while the Russian ones and Chinese one only showed it firing
@@odd_bobble9106 Believe it or not. Checked the latest sea-trial video of the 003 carrier, the model equipped in the carrier are the latest modified version of 1130, came with AESA radar (rectangular antenna iso the old one use disc type antenna), capable of tracking multiple targets and prioritize them according to the threat levels. Its the first of its kind using mini AESA radar on CIWS.
This is primarily a gun or gun-missile CIWS list. There are pure missile CIWS like RAM, Sea-Ram, Barak or Sea Wolf. Sea Wolf is amazing, considering its age.
1. Type 1130 (China)
2: Pantsir (Russia)
3: Type 730 (China)
4. Goalkeeper (Netherlands)
5: Kashtan (Russia)
ps. Phalanx shouldn't even be in contention. It uses 20mm which has inferior range to any 30mm ammunition while having lower rate of fire.
Well, 730 is 7 barrels 30mm CIWS which named H/PJ-12, the specs you put are actually 1130 CIWS, H/PJ-11, which means 11 barrels 30mm CIWS, around 11000/min. Don't know too many details about this since it been used in recent Type 052D, 055, and 001, 002 carriers. CCTV actually has some firing footages using that 1130, the footage in this video was blur but I would say it is probably 730 CIWS not 1130 CIWS.
Everyone:we have CIWS
Russia:That's sweet
Kashtan background noises
IMPRESSIONANTES!
Obrigado pelo seu comentário positivo. Fico contente que meu vídeo o agradou. Saudações
The Phalanx is actually supposed to be a bit weaker than the other CIWS in this list probably due to it using only 20mm shells, rather than the others 30mm shells. Plus Phalanx is popular mainly to the fact it is a cheap option, as it can just literally be bolted onto a deck of a warship, whereas systems like Goalkeeper retrofitted to ships need extensive work inside the ship so it can be fitted.........just ask the Royal Navy.
Phalanx might use a 20mm gun but the main reason its still relevant against these systems and better than weapons like the ak-630 which should be better on paper is its software and tracking abilities within the actual module- which is why sea-ram reuses that module, phalanx is probably a lot more expensive than ak-630, Dardo, etc and equivalent to the weapons on this list. Goalkeeper was probably better than Phalanx in the 80's and 90's, not sure now. Its been phased out in a lot of navies and lost pace with phalanx in some of the navies its continued in service unmodernised in. Phalanx is cheaper to update and support thanks to the support of the larger US arms industry but the goalkeepers that have been modernised in dutch service are probably better pieces of kit
@@lukeallison3713 First of all, AK-630 is not on this list so not really a system to compare with, and the fact that more use it or that it’s cheap or easy to maintain do not say anything about quality.
Would like to know what in Phalanx that does it better then Type 1130 as an example, or Goalkeeper.
@@MrCastodian I just said it is in fact updated more frequently than (some of) the 30mm weapons and therefore the 20mm shell disadvantrage is less significant- while goalkeeper, despite its firepower will not have been updated with new blocks. However the type 1130 volume of fire is unprecedented apart from the similarly large kashtan- and if its as accurate as claimed, its clearly miles ahead of phalanx. Actually think western ciws should go in the direction of 35 and 40mm weapons with AHEAD or similar technology while trying to increase fire rate and 57 and 76mm weapons with guided rounds like dart and mad-fires rather than provide an answer to the 1130, its the pinacle of its type of ciws

Oerlikon millenium ??
If you are firing these it's literally your last chances.
Before watching the video:
Ok, top-5 weapons let me guess... It will include (i) some European (swiss or french) system that looks cool but barely used due to high costs, (ii) modern Russian system that is placed on place 3-5 without even looking at its characteristics, (iii) some 80-s development US system that is put on the №1 spot for propoganda reasons.
After watching the video:
Wow, I stand corrected! Thanks for the honest video!
Hi there... Thank you for your positive comment. This list is based on my personal opinion, but obviously not everyone agrees with me.best regards
You talk about 730 but the info you released is type 1130....
730 is previous generation product and is a copy of ak630 form Russia .The 1130 is the new generation and should in the top of this list(The only Gatling ciws system with a rate of fire exceeding 10,000 rounds per minute)
Well spotted. I meant to talk about the 1130, forget the 730. Even the footage and the 3D image are the 1130. It was a typing mistake. Apologies and I hope it hasn’t ruined the video for you. Regards
@@Diversusmilitary You did a good job, the information of 1130 is hard to find in the English-speaking world.
Wow!~
Does anyone know anything about the Leonardo lionfish CIWS? My country( canada is apparently getting new river class destroyers, based of the type 23 frigate. But rather that the phalanx CIWS that is currently on our frigates. The new ones will have 2 lionfish CIWS. I am just wondering if that is a good or bad choice. Thanks all.

Goalkeeper is the only one I've seen on video shooting down a sea skimming ASM head on .
Surprised that the Oerlikon 35mm wasn't included but the Type 730 and Phalanx.
Type 730 is nothing more but a Chinese copy of the 630 ciws.
@@Lcr34 its the same. Just 7 barrels. And maybe some Chinese copy of Russian subsystems.
Intro music pls😁
Well ! from my point of view i think that the best all round CIWS is Oerlikon Millenium 35mm/1000 rpm Swiss/German made revolver cannon.
This system its better than the other gatlingunn CIWS, because it is less complicated, more reliable, maybe less expensive, it have excellent radar and sensors...
I think that the only down side would be a ammunition capacity, which would be beetter to increase.
In other hand, all gatllingunn systems are good for movies, power demostration, powerfull looking from the outside view, but in real situation thay are not as thay look like.
And then the hog flew over and went brrrrrr on the ships before they even saw the hog...
While i love this "flying tank" hog and it does wonders in close air support to ground troops, i'd never use them to attack a modern ship at close range. It's both slow and not stealthy, it would be instantly picked up by the radar and sent some SAMs at before even getting remotely close to the CIWS range.
Only way would be to have enough hogs firing AGMs from different angles around the ship at the same time to both overwhelm the SAM capacity by the hogs number, and overwhelm the CIWS capacity by the incoming AGMs number. (Yeah, Brrrrrute Forrrrce and more Dakka! XD)
Don't know the rate of fire for typical ship's SAM, % success of fighters couter-measures against incoming SAM, nor how many AGMs are needed to overwhelm a CIWS, but if supposedly that could even be feasible, this expensive "tactic" would incurr heavy losses on the hogs to score a successful hit on a modern ship, looks like they're just obviously not designed for this role.
But as most CIWS have about twice the range than the hog's cannon it would be both suicidal and useless to try a close-range strike.
Ak 630 ciws
Russian "duet"??
Pantsier is the best system by far with sintetic aperture phased array Radar system
Hi, what do you think of Turkey's Aselsan Gokdeniz CIWS?
Nothing this system has been fitted on all Turkish Naval combat ships and also has been exported to navies of Indonesia, Malaysia and Pakistan.
Thank you 🌹
Kashtan is the best CIWS.
Just a question is AK 630 good?
Hi there! The AK-630 is a Soviet and Russian fully automatic naval close-in weapon system based on a six-barreled 30 mm rotary cannon. It’s very good but this list is only top 5. If it was top 10 probably I would place it in 8th place... regards
It's not so efficient to sea skimming missile lik NSM.....it's going subsonic less than 5 m above sea level. Realy hard to detect.....especialy when you hav wave condition! And this missile also have counter measure capabilitys against gatling guns like high rate of manouvring.
In reality the kashtan is number 2 and unstoppable.
Hyper missile make all those obsolete.
Goalkeeper is stroonger than Pphalanx, since 1972 it hardly needed to be upgraded or even unlike the Phalanx it doe snot need multiple versions, it is a multi-purposed system.
El kashtan en mejor y mas eficas que phalanx, sabes.
Italian DARDO are the best, highest range, and the easily to adapt in any ship...
Phalanx on two is debatable given effective range of the 20 gatling gun... but I am missing the rolling airframe missile.
I agree with about phanlax on 2, it took a lot of researching and in the end the number of navy’s using it made me decide this way. About the not including rolling airframe, I decided to do this video with gun-based CIWS only... best regards
@@Diversusmilitary How does the number of Navy's using it have anything to do with the ranking? The only thing that says something about is how a certain nation keeps ramming it's military equipment through other countries' throats, and not how effective they are.

No way 20mm phalanx is at 2. It lacks the range the 30mm counterpart has, and you might wanna add SeaRam and Rheinmetall/oerlikon millennium 35mm.
High there... range is not all but respect your opinion. Searam is not Gun based. Please you are welcome to share your list with us... best regards
To be honest with you, CIWS is not my strongest military subject... after reading many articles, I made this list... if I had included searam on this list probably it would be on top together with phalanx but still the new Russian CIWS in first... please keep your knowledgeable thoughts coming, that’s the way my channel can grow... thank you for your participation. Best regards
You have to keep in mind it's about more than just the gun doing brrrrrrt it's about the whole system. The phalanx might lack in range but it can be bolted down on virtually any ship and is a mostly self-contained unit. As opposed to the goalkeeper which is turret-mounted and therefor partially below decks. Making it less useful/practical for some navy's. Which doesn't hurt the guns performance but it does limit its use. Same for the Chinese one which was only sutable for larger ships.
intro/outro music?
I wish only if you could rate these system by numbers, not how famous they are.
How chinese 11,000rounds/mins compares those 4500rounds/mins rated at number 5?

American ships have fuel air missiles that within 12 miles can be used in defense applications, usually no hands are out most of the time the deck is off limits.
Using guns is a thing of the past.
Hi there. As it was mentioned in the video, any defense system has its imperfections and it’s always better to have a backup for those times, if any threat sneaks through those primary defense systems... This CIWS are the last line of defense. If they were so useless, the navies wouldn’t bother to install it... don’t know of any combat ship without a CIWS. Best regards...

Kinda weard the nr 4 from Thales, After some trainings with Nato allies the goalkeeper never missed a target while other nato systems failed. mmmm
CIWS is important to the ship. Last defense system.
What if Falcons and Golgipper combine?
Most of weapons made are for defence so there will be no more war they will just keep away to each other hehe
Phalanx was put next to a goalkeeper back in the 90s and failed miserable as goalkeeper not only targeted its own targets but also that of the phalanx before the phalanx even could see it . And goalkeeper made some american pilots turn their underwear brown and yellow as towed targets where eliminated and it started to chew up the tow cable towards the towing aircraft .
