    Great video Mr Stripey and thanks for the mention at the end. Very nice of you to do that I will be looking forward to the equipment video. And the Wicker Man is greet movie, and sound track. I always taught it was very close to a musical.

    It's a gamble, if you get a bad one, send it back and get an original! But we must do things at home like, "wet" cleaning EVERY record, including new ones! New ones are "statically charged", and wet cleaning helps break that! I clean them wet once, then keep them clean with a brush every time after!

    • @StripeyR

      I'll give the wet clean a go mate, thanks

    I agree, we are being charged big prices for mediocre vinyl.

    I'd say it's absolutely unacceptable that vinyl these says sound as poor as some sound. We have technology these days to make it sound like they're in the room and techniques that make you feel it inside... and then they sound like crap! Up there with you Stripey, keep up the good work!

      @@StripeyR Hi Stripey, have you replaced the stylus on your Rega Carbon since you got it? Because I saw a video which said that stylus should be replaced every 12 months as a minimum! Some said every 6 months if you play loads! Thankfully the stylus for that one is only around £15.

    I got into vinyls a few months back and it's started to become an addiction now! I got the Rega Planar 1 and a few decent vinyls, Beatles ub40, the smiths and they all sound good. I bought the oasis 25 year (silver) vinyl and I thought it sounded beauty, was disappointed to hear you thought it sounded shit ha! Anyways enjoying the channel mate, keep it up.

    Hi Stripey , nice little ramble mate 🙋‍♂️ I have always had problems in this respect going way back to the 60's and 70's . Took loads of copies back to record shops time and time again ( when we had them ! ) I think some of the problems probably stem from the fact that the equipment we play them on nowadays show imperfections up so much more .
    Nice to hear from you mate , take care .

    The thing with vinyl, especially remastered issues is that they can be very iffy and it can be really hit or miss. As you said discogs and Steve hoffman forum are the 2 best places. I'd generally advise you to go for original pressings regret than remasters(although there can be exceptions) but generally original pressings tend to be better. If search on Google example (breakfast in America - Supertramp best vinyl pressing) there tends to be discussion forums for specific album pressings on steve hoffman forums that will give you a great indication on the best pressings for albums.

    Hey Stripey love your vids dude......i'm thinking of getting into vinyl collecting but with all the various audio set-ups available i'm not sure what the best option is......wonder what you think..........turntable with installed pre-amp into powered speakers? Or.....seperate pre-amp into an amp-reciever into regular speakers?

    I haven't tried this myself, but I've heard some people say they wash their new records with a 'spin clean' or another record cleaning tool, before they play them for the first time. Apparently it can make a big difference. But to be honest, you shouldn't need to invest in a spin clean for brand new records!!

    A lot of albums from the mid 90s seem to have bad vinyl pressings it’s odd I bought Stanley road by Paul weller which sounded really flat it’s a strange thing.

  • @PeKe999
    @PeKe999 4 роки тому +2

    Hi mate,
    I think reviewing records in the way you want to do it in the future will work out fine and I think it's even better to rate an album as a whole, production, artwork and the music itself.
    And yes ... it is annoying that some albums sound terrible. I think with modern technology the sound quality of a vinyl record has to be no issue and has to sound good. No surface noise, just a good sounding record.
    I hate tose innersleeves that are not polylined. I immediately replace them.
    There are some recorc conpanies that really do their best, .universal with Beatles albums, Parlophone in general with David Bowie, but his last release, the 50th anniversay release of The Man Who Sold The World had no polylined sleeve. The Pink Floyd remasters sounds good, but no poly innersleeves.
    Paul McCartney solo albums almost no poly innersleeves.
    I think there is a lot to complain about, we have to pay a 25 euro or pounds and I mean we have the right to expect a quality prodyct.
    But ......... that is negativity enough, I am going to enjoy a good sounding Eagles album in a few moments.
    By the way ........... in the first week of December The Kinks will release their 50th anniversay edition of Lola vs Powerman.
    Take care and stay safe.

    • @StripeyR
      @StripeyR  4 роки тому

      I heard about Lola 50th (I need to get this I think). I'm reviewing Face To Face or Something Else after the Wicker Man mate (you were right about the Kinks)
      I think poly-lined sleeves should be a standard with original sleeves etc placed inside the jacket.
      Take care, my friend

    Stick to originals mate. They are expensive for a reason. Do not tolerate surface noise on new vinyl. I send them back. Buy on Amazon and return if they are crap.

    I kinda enjoy the research for the best pressings my criteria is best pressing look into it and the best I can afford I like to kinda limit to 50 pound absolute max price usually 10-20 and try for to vintage always.

    I know it’s not great advise. But I only try to get original pressings or label changes pressings instead of re masters. I remember getting the bends by Radiohead and hunk dory by David Bowie and they were awful remasters and it put me off buying them.

    Trouble is Stripey your becoming an audiophile and as you improve your system it will find the duds. The only way to tackle poor pressings is to take them back and complain. If enough people do this they will have to reconsider how they make future product. UK pressings from the past were generally good and sought out in other countries aka Beatle Brad. Unfortunately most pressings are now made in Europe and can vary wildly. Anyway keep up the good work.👍

    • @StripeyR
      @StripeyR  4 роки тому

      That is a good point Bill, if enough folk backed the crap sounding records they may improve things.
      I've just gotta do a little more homework before buying...shame.
