While looking for video on how ancients Jews observed the Sabbath, stumbled upon this delightful food trip looking for ancient food still available in Israel. What a treasure. Looking forward to finding more naked travelogues.
Well Roman and other ancients had such tables for feasts so the service gets one side and those eating get the other. They over-ate in those times during feasts.
Well that is simple: They didn't! I guess you refer to the well-known painting from Da Vinci. First of all, this was painted around the year 1500 AD. How should he have known, how they sat there? He didn't even placed the scenery in a realistic setting how it could have looked like, as @Pibly describes it. He places the scenery more or less in the late 15th century, just the people have some ancient touch, although they do not really match the time nor their skin colour. Secondly he painted it like that, so you could see something or would you like to watch at the back of peoples in a photo, movie, theatre or painting? Well me neither. still nowadays they refer to this technique, that you do not need to look at the back of actors etc. they just have now more options. (Thinking back to this time, actually perspective painting was still quite new to the scene when the painting was made.)
Great show. Canada is not making enough soull food. There are so many good foods out there but our local grocery stores don't carry any of them here in New Brunswick. I miss Montreal where we had many different kinds of foods and Toronto was even better

I just keep wondering about the technicalities of recording outdoor conversations in a way that makes them sound as if the took place in a fairly small bathroom. Also, that production would be greatly improved if you just got rid of that silly guy with a funny hat and wire glasses. Also, I dread even a suggestion of a prospect of him being naked in any circumstances.
1. Ancient peoples used multiple presses of the olive like we do today. Very likely the typical frying oil in most regions was more like pomace rather than EVOO but there was every variation between the two available in the Mediterranean as well. Smoke point gets higher with lighter/less virgin OO. 2. They didn't fry all that often. Baking, stewing, and roasting were more common. They did have it and there are some ideas of deep fried pastries from this time period but it was a massive resource expenditure for most people. Olive oil in this time period was primarily as lamp oil, as skin moisturizer, and as a means to dress foods and maybe some light sauteeing. 3. Mostly the modern ideas about not heating olive oil come from antioxidant degradation and (past a point) smoke point. For extremely expensive single origin EVOOs you're supposed to savor like wine they probably have a point but your average grocery store shelf EVOO is probably not going to be hurt too much. And the smoke point thing is probably not as bad as it seems because EVOO holds up better past the smoke point than most other oils.

9:22 "And this is real life?" ... 🤔 Also i doubt they would put the firewood in that tiny tiny hole and use it for fire, the fire wouldn't have enough air and the smoke wouldn't hit the wall like that. So most likely they had the fire ontop of the little furnace thingy.
As they are in the desert, they probably won't have "wood" to burn but dried dung or branches from shrubs or stuff like that, which might work better with that small opening. As they were in the desert, they certainly tried to use as little of those materials to cook as possible. If there is only a small air interchange the material burns more slowly and therefore last longer. But just as a disclaimer: I do not have any resources to underline this statement.

Many nutritionists today say olive say should never be heated but, back then, they used olive oil for cooking. So which is correct?
it’s okay for cooking use just recommended for extreme high heat like vegetable oil
