It's the cards doing that, supposedly it's all safe up to 45 degrees Celsius, but I just don't like it one bit that they go that high. Currently looking for a reader but I'm auto ignoring all the ones where the card goes too deep inside the device or is surrounded by thick plastic all around and has no way to dissipate the heat properly (like the USB-A ones where you stick the card right into the pluggable part of the USB-A, ugh).

@@d0nj03did you find one you're happy with?

@@anton1713 No, not really, it's all bad thermal designs everywhere. I settled for one of the Type-C models that has the card partially sticking out of the plastic body when plugged in, and fully staying outside of the USB port (plastic body completely separate from the plug itself). I think it's an Interlook CR-030, but it's obviously just a rebranded Chinese model that shows under a few other names on AliExpress.

@@anton1713 Ohhh wait, this video doesn't mention it. OK, I have to walk that back a bit. Yes, I've found one I'm happy with, I got it bundled with some Kingston card I bought years ago, they don't make it anymore (of course, the bastards), let me introduce you to our lord and savior the *FCR-MRG2* . Most compact reader in history, basically just a USB-A half-connector, the minimum you need to plug it in, and a metal shell to keep the card in place (and dissipate heat like a mofo). You can barely find it anymore and it sells for ridiculous prices. :/ But I still have mine, it's still working and I'm using it in parallel with the one I mentioned before (wanted 2 so I could copy directly from card to card).
