    When this book came out, I took my Twilight copy and everytime Edward and Bella weren't together (because as cari said, dialogue was the same) I would switch books just to see what he and she were doing when the other wasn't around. Yeah, pretty obsessive of me, but I got to say it really brought the story (and my teen years) together :')

    Huh. I had a complete different time with midnight sun 😅 but I was also a HUGE fan of twilight and still enjoy the books and movies to this day. I always wanted to see more of the twilight universe so I was enjoying those little peeks of the cullen-household so much! I loved edwards POV in the book and time just flew by reading it. Loved it and would've loved the rest of the books in the different POV as well, even if none of the story would've changed. But I'm also a sucker for these kinds of things. I always wonder how things played out in the other POV and I'm always really excited to actually read it ^^

    fun fact actually really really sad fact (i can't swim) no but seriously: rebecca is actually a bit of a controversial novel because it had the exact same story and premise as a book by a brazilian author released 4 years prior. it's also about a woman who moves to this mansion in rio de janeiro and starts feeling the presence of the ex-wife around the house. it's called "a sucessora", by carolina nabuco. it's a shame this one doesn't have as much recognition worldwide as rebecca does ):

    • @caricanread
      @caricanread  4 роки тому +22

      Actually it goes a layer deeper and apparently the book by the brazilian author was also plagiarized by a book written even before that! I think that’s why charges were never pressed 🥺

    RE: Rebecca. The "paid companion" job is still alive and well, it's just evolved a bit. Nowadays it tends to be a celebrity or rich person's "entourage". People who are on the payroll to assist, run errands, go with them to events or the salon or shopping. But whom they also treat as pretend sort of friends? Confide in and joke with in a one sided friendship since the employee has to be more careful what they can say (but pretend they don't). I've worked in hotels and you see this a lot when you have vips in house for long periods of time. You absolutely clearly see and get to know the "paid companions". The HBO series Entourage made it seem more like real friendships, cause in that show it was pre fame and fortune childhood friends but that's not usually the case.

    I wanted to read a modern classic, and a lot of people recommended Rebecca and seemed to absolutely loved it. So I got to reading it, and oh my god. I was so bored by it in the beginning. I felt it was too descriptive sometimes. But I had just started reading again after a huuuuuge slump, so I was determined to get through it.
    And boy, was I absolutely NOT disappointed! Once I reached "that" part, there was no putting down the book.
    I read the second half of the book at a stretch, throughout the night. I was so invested in it, I didn't even see it was already morning lol!
    Absolutely loved this book. Please do read it if you love books with amazing backdrops, beautifully described, and love yourself a good twist lol!

    I suffer from insomnia, so a couple months ago I had a night where even with my sleeping meds I could not get to sleep. I read all three truly devious books (in audiobook form cuz my eyes were too tired) during that night and early morning. I had a really good time, they were creepy and there's a bunch of death, but it still reads very very quickly and it just sucks you in.

    I just reread all the twilight books to prepare to read midnight sun. It had been at least 10 years since I last read them and I always refer to the last book as 'hot garbage' and I stand by that. Rereading them as an adult also made me remember how frustrated I got with them ahahaha, that being said I'll still read midnight sun

    I think in your reading vlog you mentioned how Rebecca was a little challenging to read because the language forced you to read slower, and here you mentioned that it takes awhile for the plot to kick in and I Felt That! I read Tender is The Night this summer and oh boy that 1920s-1930s language is so dense. It was a nice read, but it was just really confusing the whole way through. It took me so long to read that it kinda put me in a reading slump :/. Anyway good luck with your readathon!!

    Welcome back Cari.👋
    It's 00.45 a.m. right now and I got school tomorrow but who cares?
    I actually just today started to read The Hobbit and I am really excited about it. I really like Lord of the Rings movies a lot and I wanted to get into Tolkien's world. The language is stunning and I'm loving it so far. I also started to read Life 0.3 and it goes pretty well too. (Yes, I am reading two books at the same time.) I have also been reading books by the authors from my country recently so these two will be a difference.
    I love watching movies so I added Rebecca to my list.

I really enjoyed the first and second book but then I just don't know about how it ended? The third book to me was a question mark. They are such quick reads and I think I rated the first one the highest at a 5 stars because it sucked me in but then after that each book dropped a star for me on Goodreads. Long story short I agree with you on the point that after I finished the serious I am not at all sure how I feel.

    I read Midnight Sun and I was furious with myself for wasting time on it. Thankfully it took me two reading sessions and I was able to finish it, but I think it’s kind of shite of the author to have released the first 9 chapters online ten years ago for free, and then a decade later publish the same thing. She had 10 years to make it better and she didn’t change a thing. Midnight Sun dragged terribly as well, I felt like nothing happened for chapters at a time and now I think Edward is way more messed up than I thought before. The bits of Bella we see though his eyes are an improvement but they don’t fit at all with the version of Bella we know from Twilight. I felt like her character became disjointed between the two books a bit

    • @caricanread
      @caricanread  4 роки тому +1

      I would feel the same way if i had read those chapters long ago im sure hahaa there just wasnt enough new stuff to qualify an entirely new book and at least twilight had a lot of different characters bella interacted with but this was just soooooooo much edward and maybe a lil carlisle hahaha
