    Going to failure isn’t “optimal” but it’s fool proof. Tons of folks just don’t know how much they truly have left in the tank

    • @nomad9584
      @nomad9584 9 місяців тому +4

      Yep. It's funny how the lifting community, which is quite niche to begin with, will debate this 'til kingdom come yet 98% of people you see in a typical gym train with 5-6 left in the tank. Hard training is hard training and you can't really go wrong when you're fighting for PR's every session.

      Yeah true, but eventually you should be able to tell what 2 / 3 reps off failure feels like and you do that - then you can go to the gym more often

      Right... If you don't know how closely you're training to failure, you have no clue how hard you're training and you have no consistent measuring stick for progress.

    Back in the day when I was strong, I pretty much just kept trying to get stronger and stronger and I got bigger and bigger. I didn’t eat big, so I probably didn’t get as big as I should’ve. But you just have to do a little more than last time.

    Just saw a very simplified way said by Kurt Havens. He said "When scale stops moving up calories. When strength stops add anabolics" seems simple enough.
    additionally, Victor Black and Broderick Chavez recommend that TRT be at 3mg/kg of anabolics. so when progress stalls I will add another mg of test until the side effects are intolerable. I will start to add Primo or Masteron. to me, it is around 5.5mg/kg. I will continue adding food and anabolics as needed not preemptively. and take a break to restart when the bulk usually ends from 12-16 weeks.

    Consistent Hard training w/ skill, proper diet for goals (if you’re not an expert, pay 1, I see too many guys who are wayyy off), basic PED choices-starting as low as you can & slowly escalate over yrs (not per cycle) if you wanna get somewhere. More advanced or if you wanna dig deep, sure topics can get as complicated as you’d like.

    One thing that a lot of bros do is use anabolic WITHOUT a testosterone base. They’ll suppress their endogenous testosterone production and maybe gain some size, but at the expense of feeling like shot and causing ED.
    How often do you see that? One of my physician colleagues who specializes in sports performance sees this commonly.

    Hey Paul. Another great video! I hate to mention one more other thing besides the painfully obvious ones you outlined. Now, if someone's head explodes over this one, don't blame Paul. This is for informational purposes only. LOL Here it is:...
    SLEEP. I've coached so many people and enhanced or not, male or female, experienced or not, one common denominator exists for growth that is impossible to ignore. SLEEP. When you CONSISTENTLY get at least 8 hours of sleep, your training and growth will accelerate all other things being equal. Paul, go check your BP dude haha!

      Believe me, I love doing deep dives into to things. I am on pub med almost every day.
      I look at it from a top down approach. Do the basics perfectly first. Once you have those covered, then you can dig into the minutiae, but very few people ever cover the basics consistently enough and long enough to make it that far.

    Although not a bodybuilder, Eddy Coan, probably the best power lifter ever, competed and held world records in multiple weight classes. He just got bigger by being consistent, rarely trained to failure, used progressive overload within a training cycle and trained alot like a bodybuilder, especially his assistance lifts. The big 3 lifts were only trained in very low reps close to a competition.
    He has mentioned he doesn't have the genetic structure to be a bodybuilder but used their training ideas to get bigger and progressively stronger all over.
    I mention him as he literally out grew multiple weight classes in powerlifting by training short of failure and a fair amount of volume.
