Unless the co just made a dumbassed error by not transferring fuel but dumped it instead...maybe it saved people, maybe it caused the crash. Not sure backfiring in itself is the dangerous?
Facts because had that plane been loaded with fuel, it would’ve burst into flames on impact. The irony in your comment is actually giving me goosebumps
@Steven Franklin I don’t think there was engine failure. They simply ran out of gas and then gravity took over from there. From what I read the co pilot didn’t dump fuel. They had no fuel to dump anyway. The reason they crashed is because they didn’t add enough fuel prior to take off. it’s like Driving from Virginia to Georgia on a half a tank a gas. You won’t make it.

The people on that plane trusted those pilots to fly them safely. Damn shame. I wish the families would've sued.
@@ilovesteveclark6084 Pilots were sober. Problem, was that they knew they had a fucked up engine, and kept flying. Figuring they'd be fine on those short runs if it quit working. Problem there, is that it was consuming more fuel than necessary, and they didn't factor that into their needed fuel load.
Lynyrd Skynyrd got their first warning when the plane had been turned down by another group called Aerosmith. The plane had fuel gauges inoperative which required sticking the tank before and after fueling. The pilot had to have been involved in this procedure and signed off on it. Additionally, I had heard that the right engine was in bad running condition belching and rough running the leg before. It worried a background vocalist woman that she bought a ticket.

I was in a plane crash in San Francisco in 2013 where people died and I find comfort for some strange reason in watching this. By strange coincidence in 1980 I saw Rossington Collins in Springfield, Massachusetts up close against the stage and it kept running through my mind about their plane crash as I was watching them.
Ending part is about Van Zant "I don't think so." He was the field marshal of the group, he wrote the lyrics, called the shots, dictated every rehearsal detail, etc. It was like losing Lennon & McCartney and asking if the Beatles could go on. 6:52

I seen another documentary where that plane had known issues . Another rock band passed on buying the plane before skynyrd bought it. Fast forward later on. Plane acting up. The band had opportunity to take a bus but ronnie said they would take the plane. It needed service and could get it done at thier destination
You hear all these stories about what happened and some of it is hard to believe,Heard that Artimus Pyle had several broken ribs even one through the skin,Major concussion and he was treated and released?,Cassie Dying in Billy Powells arms while he's trying to find his nose that according to him wasn't on his face lol,There was only 1 member in that band that wasn't replaceable and that was Ronnie,I love Gary Rossington and i have all the respect in the world for him on why he tried keeping Skynyrd alive,That band was the American version of the Stones in the prime of their careers for it to end like it did,I truly believe he's trying to keep The deseased members alive,I can only imagine the Trama the survivors went thru
Billy Powell later admitted the story about Cassie wasn't true, I don't fault him for that, just like Artimus' story about being shot at as he went for help probably wasn't true. These guys are not superheroes, they were victims of something horrible that the rest of us cannot comprehend.
I read articles. Watch UA-cam videos. About Skynyrd. The inner fighting right now. Everything about this is sad. It's really terrible to think of the lives cut short. All the guys involved in the band. This is 40 years now that The Free Birds set sail. Fly on guys. Fly on in Peace.

I heard Aerosmith was considering hiring the pilot that chartered that Lynyrd Skynyrd flight. After a night of partying with the flight crew, they wisely passed.
I live in Greenville and remember my mother and aunt crying over this and Elvis dying in 77. I was little. Six years old.
I was 11-years-old when this happened.
I was born APRIL 20, 1966. YOU
Read Priscilla's book. He was fooling with her long before she was old enough to even drive, so...then he never touches her again after he marries her and and she's pregnant. Guy had many issues.
This was really hard to watch. Their music was the soundtrack of my youth.
Weird...what ultimately killed them (fuel starvation) is what also saved the people that lived from burning up after crash.
Unless the co just made a dumbassed error by not transferring fuel but dumped it instead...maybe it saved people, maybe it caused the crash.
Not sure backfiring in itself is the dangerous?
@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 FFA Report said valves were closed
Facts because had that plane been loaded with fuel, it would’ve burst into flames on impact. The irony in your comment is actually giving me goosebumps
@Steven Franklin I don’t think there was engine failure. They simply ran out of gas and then gravity took over from there. From what I read the co pilot didn’t dump fuel. They had no fuel to dump anyway. The reason they crashed is because they didn’t add enough fuel prior to take off. it’s like Driving from Virginia to Georgia on a half a tank a gas. You won’t make it.
@@oneday5572I've thought about that a lot.
I'm only 31 years old but skynyrd is by far my favorite music group. In my opinion they never made a bad song. Ronnie was a legend and greatness was lost that day. I only wish I could have watched them play. I envy those who got that honor.
You got that right
Stfu old ass nigga
Sure, got that right
I was 13 in 77' my uncle was a Stoner,Guitar player and Vocalist. I was Blessed to be his Favorite Person. He took me to a Kiss Concert in 75' and we Had Tickets to see Skynyrd later in 77'.My Uncle cried as if he'd lost Family. When He died I got those Tickets. His Kids got Money, House, Cars, Motorcycles and My Cousin has offered it All in Trade for Those Tickets and T shirts I got. Miss you Uncle RocknRoll! RIP. Btw My Uncle was a very famous man. He's the guy you've never met Before. Everyone knows of the guy you've never met, yet, You've never met him. I'm Him! I loved it when he said that. Ha ha ha

Tragedy from pilot error miscalculating fuel. Pathetic!
100% COMPLETLY UNFUCKINGEXCEPTABLE FOR "" PILOTS "" CAPTAIN AND 1ST OFFICER ON FLIGHT DECK TO HAVE ASS U ME. THEY COULD MAKE IT ANOTHER 60 MILES WHEN THEY KNEW THEY WERE BURNING INRICHED FUEL AND FIRE WAS SEEN COMING OUT OF ENGINE !!! IN OTHER WORDS BURNING MORE AND LOOSING MORE FUEL THAN THEY KNEW OR COULD ACCNT FOR !!! IT IS BELIEVED THAT THE CO PILOT 26 Y/O SUGGESTED THEY LAND AND LET ENGINE COOL AND CHECK FUEL LEVELS BUT PILOT MADE FATEFUL TRAGIC AND MORTAL FATAL DESSISION TO CONTINUE ON !!! MINUTES LATER THE CONVARE 240 ENGINES STALLED !!! THEY WERE OUT OF FUEL !!!! I JUST TURNED 50 I WAS 10 Y/O AT THAT TIME BUT MY SISTER HAD 8 TRAK. OF THEM AND I LOVED LISTENING TO THEM !!!! SO SAD RIP !!!!!
@@capitalec apparently both pilots were extremely loaded. Of course alot of the band members were, but there's nothing wrong with that, they were relaxing, and just chilling out. BUT, the pilots had no excuse for flying that plane when they both were loaded. That's why they made stupid and negligent decisions. Assholes.
The people on that plane trusted those pilots to fly them safely.
Damn shame. I wish the families would've sued.
@@ilovesteveclark6084 The toxicology report of the pilots showed no signs prescription or illegal drugs / alcohol in their systems.
Ive heard some other band wanted to charter that plane but passed up on it because it gave them a sketchy feeling
Who didn't love Sweet Home Alabama
May have been a bad magneto on the R Engine which my have caused high fuel use. Jo Jo Billingsley. Had Dreams for the 2 days prior. Warned them. Thank God she got saved.

That background singer was Cassie Gaines. There was some talk that Ronnie had threatened those who wanted to take an alternate form of transportation to Baton Rouge with dismissal.
Still heartbreaking....was at their last concert Greenville, SC. The crash was a nightmare then & even now. Skynyrd is Legend!

An amazing rock band against a wicked destiny. After years they still battle with pride and the still honour thoose missed and still play as an amazing rock band.
And they are my best rock band...over the years they give us a big lesson ..never surrender...never forget who you loved and what u are !
Simple mens ...for big souls...friendships never ends !
Thanks for all!
Skynyrd fan from Italy.
I saw Skynrd 10 years to the day of the crash, oct 1987 and BJCC in Birmingham al. Great show.
I watched that cheezy 2020 movie and spent all night dreaming about the damn crash...
God Bless the Band Lynyrd Skynyrd.
There is no god!
Joseph Santille bless them? Why not just let them live in the first place? Mysterious ways?
Uh, yeah.
@@wowojeejee Pierre, Search for The Lord with all your heart and you will find Him!
I'll never forget that day! Same as the day I heard about Stevie Ray Vaughn. Both times it broke my heart...so sad. 😢
Ending part is about Van Zant "I don't think so." He was the field marshal of the group, he wrote the lyrics, called the shots, dictated every rehearsal detail, etc. It was like losing Lennon & McCartney and asking if the Beatles could go on. 6:52
Thanks for the post...I remember hearing about this on TV and thought, Oh my God NO !!! I think that I was in shock about the news...We lost some very awesome people that day in the music industry...Rest in Peace Ronnie and the Rest of the people that we died that day...Gone, but have never been forgotten
I remember when i herd the plane crash with the band it was very sad. Iam happy to here that the remaining members of the band desided to contined on. Thanks i love your music god bless all of you
Greatest rock band ever! The kids today have Taylor Swift! Sad
Skynyrd was good, but the "greatest"? Nah. They weren't even the best southern rock band; ever heard of The Allman Brothers?
AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd...all of them better than Lynyrd Skynyrd.
But then again, that's just one man's opinion. ✌🏼
Times change and so do people. Your sadness is futile.

Such a shame so many good artists died
Imagine surviving a horrible plane crash and they fly you to a hospital 😭🤣 I'd be having an anxiety attack

No shit
They probably had them sedated.
No way 😢

The investigation concluded that the damn plane ran out of gas. We lost Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines, his sister, and others in that crash. It is something that should never have happened. We all mourn the loss to this day.
Cassie Gaines. She had a name and was a band member as well, not just "his sister."
Lynyrd Skynyrd will never die.
Yes, yes they did and will ...but it is their music that shalt always live !
Lord! What an ordeal. I don't know how any of them survived that mess. God bless Billy Powell for being able to give this interview, it had to of took a lot of courage.
I saw that cheezy movie last night before bed and all I did was dream about it all night long.
They had ten minutes of knowing. Must have been the longest ten minutes ever.
@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 Except for Ronnie, Gene said. He was out of it on sleeping pills and removed his seat belt.

I was a nurse at Southwest and remember this day very well. We worked together to help the survivors. Seeing my nurse coworkers long ago brings back memories.

My heart truly broke that day and I still miss them. I cried then and I'm teared up now. Only band I ever felt like I knew them boys without ever meeting. And there really is weird stuff about that damn crash. Their music is timeless
I thought I'd saw, about everything there was on this crash... Old news papers , pictures and witnesses, but I've never saw a actual news broadcast from the wreck. Thanks for sharing and thanks to all those first responders
I seen another documentary where that plane had known issues . Another rock band passed on buying the plane before skynyrd bought it. Fast forward later on. Plane acting up. The band had opportunity to take a bus but ronnie said they would take the plane. It needed service and could get it done at thier destination
It was Aerosmith.
Saw fire in the R Engine on a previous flight
how the fuck does a plane manage to take off without sufficient fuel for the journey?
Well said
Billy Powell later admitted the story about Cassie wasn't true, I don't fault him for that, just like Artimus' story about being shot at as he went for help probably wasn't true. These guys are not superheroes, they were victims of something horrible that the rest of us cannot comprehend.
Wow. Thank you for this footage rockinthe904.

I live in New Orleans and remember waking up that day for work to the news of the crash. It was especially shocking because it was so close to home. I felt like an era died that day...the southern rock era.
being from Greenville SC, I think about this every time I drive near that airport.
