Tharanga wasn’t given a consistent opportunity by the selectors. He was dropped couple of innings after this one, which is very messed up! I personally thought this was all uphill for him with the selectors but it wasn’t to be! He was a very good player but wasn’t nurtured by SLC!

Tharanga never did his talent justice. The problem of SL cricket was freak talents like Tharanga, Mathews, Kapugedera, Kusal Perer, Chandimal etc etc came around that 2006-2014 period but none of them barring Mathews really even came close to doing justice to their talent and becoming reliable veterans in the long term. Even Mathews after 2016 fell away from his peak because of constant injuries. THIS is what happened to SL cricket and why its taking so long to stand back up. New gun players like Nissanka are starting to come through but it takes a long time to find & develop 11 players like that.
After retirement of jayawardane and sanga Sri lankan cricket fell into pieces still not able to find their replacement They have become weak than afghanistan Sanga should have played more 3 to 4 years
