  • The organization of Central African states, ECCAS, has called for a swift return to constitutional rule in Gabon, one day after the military seized power.
Coup leaders have named the republican guard chief as head of a transitional government. They accuse deposed President Ali Bongo of embezzlement and have placed him under house arrest.

A leader that can’t take care of 2 million of his citizens in a country that’s rich in resources is a failed leader. Gabonese should make sure they eliminate that kind of leadership from its roots.

I agree! Singapore population is just 3million and do not have the resources that Gabon has. Every Gabonese should way above poverty level. A country with the second highest GDP behined Botswana and fourth largest oil producer in Africa. It is depressing.

“WHENEVER those states which have been acquired as stated have been accustomed to live under their own laws and in freedom, there are three courses for those who wish to hold them: the first is to ruin them, the next is to reside there in person, the third is to permit them to live under their own laws, drawing a tribute, and establishing within it an oligarchy which will keep it friendly to you. Because such a government, being created by the prince, knows that it cannot stand without his friendship and interest, and does its utmost to support him and therefore he who would keep a city accustomed to freedom will hold it more easily by the means of its own citizens than in any other way.”

Obiang Nguema in Equatorial Guinea ,a cousin of Marcius Nguema overthrew him in 1979 to date is the current President. Nguema ,a cousin of Bongo has overthrown him in 2023 and the people are celebrating in the streets of the cpital city Libreville. What a tragedy. Will Africans ever learn how to govern themselves or the europeans will continue as their advisers:

They will learn to find a way as most societies. Probably a good idea not to ask anything from the Europeans, particularly France, who are largely responsible for having an adverse effect on matters due to constant meddling.

I do not know anything about this particular country. One thing I do know is that people, for whatever reason, tend to vote for anybody in their Party and/or the incumbent. No matter how good, bad, or indifferent they are. A former in-law told her family to stop talking to her one son because he switched sides. She said her parents only voted for those of in the one Party and she will do the same. And her children must as well. My parents were Party loyal but my dad had been a member of the other Party until at least WW2. He said the Party changed. I think he realized what they were actually doing. When I voted for things or people my parents didn’t support the were disappointed but recognized I had a right to my own opinions. I have left their Party because it got too religious. We are supposed to be secular. I will never join the other Party because they are succeeding in their goal to make this a single Party country. A dictatorship.

So the best President Ali Bongo can hope for is safe passage together with asylum in France I guess that those behind the coup won't object to this kind of an arrangement. As to the latter new free fair transparent and internationally supervised elections should be held so that a democratically elected President can be put in charge ultimately thank you very much and have a great day 🤗🤗
