- The organization of Central African states, ECCAS, has called for a swift return to constitutional rule in Gabon, one day after the military seized power.
Coup leaders have named the republican guard chief as head of a transitional government. They accuse deposed President Ali Bongo of embezzlement and have placed him under house arrest.

A leader that can’t take care of 2 million of his citizens in a country that’s rich in resources is a failed leader. Gabonese should make sure they eliminate that kind of leadership from its roots.
I agree! Singapore population is just 3million and do not have the resources that Gabon has. Every Gabonese should way above poverty level. A country with the second highest GDP behined Botswana and fourth largest oil producer in Africa. It is depressing.
ALL THE PUPPET LEADERS IN AFRICA MUST BE HEADED!!!!

France doesn’t have to have a say or being consulted for anything in Gabon. France should mind its business in France and Gabonese will do the same.
France ran Gabon remotely. They got interests that's why they refuse to recognise the military junta.
Exactly
Gabon had a GDP per capita of $10k more so france did a good job 👍

If France has condemned the coup in Gabon,it must be something good.
Don be fooled, that is standard practice. The coup in Gabon was orchestrated by France. Are you not surprised why western media is supporting it?
France and Russia condemned it so its definitely good
That just shows how little you know.
France is a democracy.
Russia is a dictatorship. @@kuminanida333
They kept bongos in power for 55 years in power!😆
Forget France. Whether it's good or not isn't based on France.
Good job for Gabon , hopefully many African countries remove these colonial puppets, false illusion of independence
Brothers, you are not independent, but you're ruled by a french puppet. It's another form of latent colonialism, not much difference.
Remove Western colonial legacy, only to jump straight into Russian colonialism. When will the people of Africa realise their rulers and exploiters share the same skin colour and speak the same language as them?
It has nothing to do with colonialism. You get the leader you deserve

They haven't freed themselves yet. A French oil company contols the oil. They need to nationalize their oil production so that their people realize the profis. They are the 4th largest oil producer with a population of only 2 million.

@@raygreen7628 True it should be at par with Singpore or even higer. The goverment is corrupt because its a French neo-colonial theatre. The Gabonese are begging for development for decades now and want economic, urban development.

Then where is the US and Europe in condemning the coup in russia? These countries are just scared they might lose control

DW you didn't answer the question in the title.
“WHENEVER those states which have been acquired as stated have been accustomed to live under their own laws and in freedom, there are three courses for those who wish to hold them: the first is to ruin them, the next is to reside there in person, the third is to permit them to live under their own laws, drawing a tribute, and establishing within it an oligarchy which will keep it friendly to you. Because such a government, being created by the prince, knows that it cannot stand without his friendship and interest, and does its utmost to support him and therefore he who would keep a city accustomed to freedom will hold it more easily by the means of its own citizens than in any other way.”

I lived in the Gabon in the late eighties for 3 years. The poverty, in such a rich country was shocking. Seeing images now hardly anything has changed. The bongo clan is corrupt, and when I was there if you didn't bribe , you did not get anything. I hope the Gabon will become a truly democratic country.
Where are you mainly from?
What country?
Recap in one sentence : “France has military basis in Gabon”
We want all removed ASAP
they can either leave on their free will or in body bags they can choose
Once France goes in, they never come out. Those military bases are instruments of control to send a message that we are still here.
She hasn't admitted that Bongo was a French stooge.

Beware Gabon citizens, your joy will be short live, you are being pushed out of boiling pot and into fire.

Gabon used to be a Franco-American satellite. Now it is free
I can't speak for the French, I'm from California. But if you think Americans oppose people rising up and overthrowing their dictators, then you don't know Americans. What has yet to be seen is whether the new military junta will foster a smooth transition to real democracy or not. Anything's possible. It's not unheard of. But history tells us not to be optimistic.

It’s good to get people like this out of power, but military rule has never turned out good for anyone historically. Could go from bad to worse. There needs to be a transition to a democratic government.
Paul kagame is making his country doing well and he was a leader in the rebel party.

Good job Bongo! A strong wealthy africa is only good for the whole world. Greetings from GReece
Take your country in your hands and build it good for your children
And do not have too many children who you cannot afford to feed or provide basic needs
Obiang Nguema in Equatorial Guinea ,a cousin of Marcius Nguema overthrew him in 1979 to date is the current President. Nguema ,a cousin of Bongo has overthrown him in 2023 and the people are celebrating in the streets of the cpital city Libreville. What a tragedy. Will Africans ever learn how to govern themselves or the europeans will continue as their advisers:
They will learn to find a way as most societies. Probably a good idea not to ask anything from the Europeans, particularly France, who are largely responsible for having an adverse effect on matters due to constant meddling.
The people are celebrating change in government. I doubt the people will tolerate a military government for more than 1 year.
Obiang Nguema was Macias Nguema's nephew.
Too long in power, time for change
Bravo Africa , down with the colonists
I do not know anything about this particular country. One thing I do know is that people, for whatever reason, tend to vote for anybody in their Party and/or the incumbent. No matter how good, bad, or indifferent they are. A former in-law told her family to stop talking to her one son because he switched sides. She said her parents only voted for those of in the one Party and she will do the same. And her children must as well. My parents were Party loyal but my dad had been a member of the other Party until at least WW2. He said the Party changed. I think he realized what they were actually doing. When I voted for things or people my parents didn’t support the were disappointed but recognized I had a right to my own opinions. I have left their Party because it got too religious. We are supposed to be secular. I will never join the other Party because they are succeeding in their goal to make this a single Party country. A dictatorship.
where do you live?
You know nothing, perhaps that's your relatives that you know about but don't assume about others
Those aren't real party's then. Just partisan gangs that will do for only people that will vote for them and not look out for the interest of all their citizens.
Nigeria NEXT THAT SELLOUT!!
From one looter to another 😢 cry the beloved Africa
So the best President Ali Bongo can hope for is safe passage together with asylum in France I guess that those behind the coup won't object to this kind of an arrangement. As to the latter new free fair transparent and internationally supervised elections should be held so that a democratically elected President can be put in charge ultimately thank you very much and have a great day 🤗🤗
