    A few years ago I made a series of videos outlining what were the beginnings of my anarchist politics. Having spent more time in the movement, I thought it would be a good idea to make an updated version of the series with more refined arguments. If you're interested in seeing the older version, you can watch that here (though I don't think it's very good):

      Libertarian Socialist Rants could you do a video symilar to that of "top usa led authoritarian regimes" , but being about the unjust wars (both direct wars like that of philipines by william mckinley and proxy wars like ther afghan-soviet war ) the usa got involved? the name of the video could be "top american-led wars" or something like that. you could also do a video about the worst usa allies.

    A great quote comes to mind, from Steven Jay Gould:
    "I am, somehow, less interested in the weight and convolutions of Einstein's brain than in the near certainty that people of equal talent have lived and died in cotton fields and sweatshops."
    Who even knows how many people with potential for greatness have never, currently aren't and/or will never live up to their potential because they have to toil away in a factory or on a farm in order not to starve? Millions? Billions? It's staggering, and it's unacceptable.

    Love you and everything you do. Your videos got me back into Anarchist/anti-fascist politics after a few apathetic years. Re-expanding my library and taking part in some actions again (like I did back in the days of the Stephen Lawrence verdict and my days with Anti-Fascist Action, way back in the mid-nineties (!))...thanks so much for re-igniting the flame in this old lefty, Cameron!

      > _You're exhausted because you're trying to fit a square peg into a round hole. Human beings are naturally hierarchical._
      This is why you can cite science articles that find a strong correlation between human happiness and hierarchy within a given society, right? It's not as if jobs make people exhausted and miserable or anything - the more someone bosses you around, the happier you are, that's just human nature.

    i’m only a junior in high school, but i just want to say that your videos have completely changed my world. a discussion about the future of jobs in my AP seminar class led to me questioning why we have to work to live, and why our entire purpose in life is to make a profit. i also noticed that the sources we were reading all had a positive view of this endless cycle of labor, and neither my teacher or peers seemed to be able to answer my questions of “why do we still have to live in this system?” i turned to the internet, and stumbled on your channel through a youtube miss-click; that was the best mistake i ever made. your content gave me academic language for the questions i was asking, and articulated the innate flaws i saw in the capitalist system. i’d previously considered myself a liberal democrat, thanks to my very left leaning mother, but now i see that anarchist-communism/socialism is the only way to have a truly equal society that benefits more than just the rich and powerful. i hope to someday join a revolutionary organization and help to take down the capitalist hierarchy that’s destroyed our planet, so thank you comrade!

      Welcome to a world of visionaries Jay! One feels good knowing that there is another comrade in the movement.
      I started asking myself the same questions: "Why does a person with money consider himself superior to me?" or "Do we really need the money for our survival?" they were dilemmas that nobody seemed to want to debate, except my friends, which, incredible as it may seem, are mostly Marxists.
      I don't know what the situation is like in your local area, how's the direct action like antifa organized like, or the existence of a Black Bloc. However, personally I have to tell you that please, do not go to direct action without informing about everything extremely well, I recommend reading the Black Bloc manual, tear gas treatment, and I highly recommend starting practising cardio. I know that the idea of a social revolution is beautiful, but speaking with other anarchists I have managed to understand what our comrades also wait from us -the young visionaries-, is to educate society, and by this I mean joining some kind of (anarchist) social center or activities to help your community and make people see that we aren't savages who run around the streets smashing things for simple fun. But, we are people who rely on solidarity, trust, mutual support and fight against an illogical system.
      To end with this comment; I am going to give you a series of matter I consider important:

    I love that you mentioned Autism Speaks. I had forgotten about them, but many years ago, when I got my late-in-life diagnosis, I went around researching a bit. As a surprise to nobody I wasn't really interested in joining some community or anything, although I did seek out a chatroom or two, but discovering Autism Speaks really jolted me. I had never thought of myself as much worse than... eccentric, weird, unusual, I had my bouts of depression - but who hasn't, I had frictions with family - but who hasn't. A lot of these problems became... almost solved, through the diagnosis, I was much more aware of my behavior, how I related to others, so - a lot of my quirks and eccentricities, the good and the bad, I associated them with my condition. Then seeing my diagnosis, my condition, described with those terms that Autism Speaks does, in particular in a few absolutely horrible ads - ADS - where they had parents explaining what absolute hell their lives were (their lives!) having to deal with an unruly autistic child, a non-normal child, some of these ads had parents relating their quaint little dreams, with tears in their eyes, that their children would never grow up to be perfectly preppy normal, that they were now weird quirky freaks with silly personalities, one of the ads had parents talking about wanting to commit full blown murder-suicide o_o
    And they are the biggest autism awareness organization in the world, to my knowledge! People donate tons to them, and people really buy into their rethoric of "curing" autists - in particular for the benefit of their distraught parents! Those poor parents who wanted someone ordinary, with ordinary behaviors and ordinary thoughts, jesus christ... through my whole undiagnosed life, through all my frictions with friends and family, I never once felt *unapreciated* for who I was! My mother, my father, we had our issues, but they always knew who I was, they always supported me in being me, in being weird and quirky and having my narrow interests (DINOSAURS! And a lot more, especially over the years, accumulating shit :D)
    Ugh...
    Anyway, just wanted to plaster a little rant of my own, I'm gonna unpause now and finish your video! :V

    It's a great video, and I think you made a lot of great points, but I just have to point out that I love it that you utilized Nine Inch Nails at the end of the video. "A Warm Place," despite its simplicity, is probably one of my favorite NIN songs when I'm in a somber or thoughtful mood, and since depression is a common recurrence in my life and philosophy is my primary hobby, somber and thoughtful are eternally present. Anyway, looking forward to your next video. Thanks :)

      "Do they have worker ownership over the means of production?". Yes they do, around 1/3 of Cubans work in co-ops or self-employment. The rest of the economy is owned and controlled by the state, which in turn is controlled by the workers.
      Side note: worker control is not the sole prerequesite for socialism and you anarchists need to stop pretending it is, I was tryna preach a bit of left unity and you ruined it. This dogmatism from anarchists is the reason why Lenin had them shot.

      Never said that all anarchists deserve to die, Lenin himself actually worked with certain groups of anarchists in the Civil War and beyond, and I'm more than willing to work with some anarchists. What I meant is that the dogmatism displayed by bulletfreak and KevinSj is what got select groups of anarchists and leftcoms arrested in the USSR. You said that you support nations struggling against imperialism, and you didn't attack my beliefs in any way, therefore I respect you and wish no harm on you, comrade :)

    It's nifty actually getting insight into the anarchist's reasoning. I can't endorse it, because it's a huge leap from "people are oppressed" to "capitalism causes homophobia". I'd also encourage all socialists to consider what makes one a worker vs an "owner of the means of production". Those terms seemed pretty clear when most jobs were manual labor, but now in the age where anyone can be an entrepreneur or own some publicly traded or privately owned stock, there's a million exceptions to the billionaire/worker model.

    The question we need to ask is, how do we do that and what replaces it?
    They're serious questions that need to be answered and we have to discuss them (but let's not fall out over that discussion, we can all agree that the current system drags us down and needs to go)

    Hierarchical structuring is a naturally occurring phenomenon. Anarchism or any anomalous force of collective energies could represent another naturally occurring instance similar to the way opposing forces involved in entropy take shape. Never forget you have a choice in either viewing yourself as other or joining in the promotion of the philosophy associated with any system of thought. Don't fall victim to propaganda; yet take up the role that ushers in the best results for yourself. Others will appreciate and respect you for what do, over whatever it is you so choose to let fall from your lips. Time is limited.

    Greetings, comrade! Love your videos, I have one question for you though: Do you think Anarchy/Socialism can be established in one country surrounded by capitalist countries? It seems likely to me that such a society would suffer a sort of "brain drain", as people would get a free education there, but would then decide to work elsewhere for higher wages.

    • @ElectricUnicycleCrew
      @ElectricUnicycleCrew  6 років тому +5

      I think there needs to be a world revolution. And I don't think people would leave if an anarchist region were established due to the opportunities provided for self-directed labour.

      Not only that, but who cares if people leave after getting an education? They are free and a basic right for all. Plus, they will take with them parts of society they learned living in Anarchia (the theoretical Anarchist "country") thus exporting the ideology to other states.

    Yo what's your thoughts on reformism? Alexandria Ocazio Cortez getting elected recently seems to have sparked a conversation about democratic socialism (really social democracy, but whatever). Do you think the potential shift in the Overton window is worth taking advantage? Is it possible to expand the scope of socialising healthcare and education towards socialising other basic needs, like child care, food and housing as an example? Or how public financing of elections can start a discussion on adding democracy to other aspects to society like the workplace in the form of worker coops?
    Personally I think if the ruling class's feet get wet, they'll retaliate in kind with resource hoarding, assassinating political opponents and getting lynch mobs and police to destroy public foodstores and hospitals, not unlike Venezuelia. I honestly don't know if there's a peaceful way out of that.

      @___M99 6 років тому +1

      DragoonBoom Social democracy is an improvement over what currently exists in the United States but it is nowhere near enough.
      Also personally I think it is impossible to reform society into socialism through the democratic process as the state would never allow that to happen.

    • @voltairinekropotkin5581
      @voltairinekropotkin5581 6 років тому +2

      There's no possibility of achieving libertarian socialism through electoral action.
      Though a generally more leftist/progressive Overton Window would (perhaps) make it easier to achieve anarchistic goals on the ground via direct action. So I guess it's not a bad thing.
      Still, the statist left needs to stay out of the way of direct-actionists and stop trying to either co-opt or suppress their activities. Some kind of "left unity" between statists and anti-authoritarians is off the table, but a good compromise might be some kind of "non-interference" agreement. In other words, statist leftists can try to achieve their goals through governmental action, anti-authoritarians can try to achieve their goals through direct action, and they can each agree to at least not thwart the efforts of the other.

    • @voltairinekropotkin5581
      @voltairinekropotkin5581 6 років тому +4

      That hasn't been the case in the past. The statist left has always used governmental power to repress autonomous movements and monopolise initiatives undertaken through direct action, from the Bolsheviks to the British Labour Party.
      Also, statist left isn't an insult. It's just a description. It refers to leftists who try to undertake change through the state instead of through grassroots self-organising.
