- The Titan launched at 8 a.m. on Sunday, and was reported overdue that afternoon about 435 miles (700 kilometers) south of St. John’s, Newfoundland. On Thursday, U.S. Coast Guards said debris had been found on the ocean bed. Authorities said all five people aboard the submersible died when the vessel imploded.
WFLA Now's JB Biunno #HeyJB will be joined by special guests at 2:00pm ET.
There is a person from Mexico who went into one of these expeditions with Oceangate last year, after a failed attempt in 2021, he went back last year and they were able to explore the Titanic, back then it was 125,000 USD per person, he was sponsored by two Mexican Companies, he documented the 8-day experience into a 4 part video, in one of the videos Rush Stockton gives a tour of the Submergible from inside and outside, he shows Titan had 4 external cameras. His channel is called 'Alanxelmundo', the videos are in spanish but Closed Captions can be turned on. The first video is called 'Mi Expedicion al Titanic parte 1/4 - Alan por el mundo'
Thanks for the recommendation!!
External cameras? I wonder if they removed those before this expedition then 🤔
This series is remarkable in that it shows (in part 2 or 3) the re-docking of the sub when it surfaced lopsided (because some ballast had been dropped) onto the platform. It was a tremendous job, took the whole night to get the thing on. In short, the diving crew spent almost a whole day inside the sub! Also it wasn't a 8-day experience, it was two trips altogether.
thanks Jenny, that tip is very appreciated, because it shows us a person who went to the Titanic
and back again. It's a pity that there is an interview of Alan Estrada after the accident, but all in spanish
without any subtitles in english. In the series one can see HP Nargeolet who actually went down twice
and did not survive the 3rd time. In the interview Alan made clear, that the control device, which everybody
finds rediculous, is only ment to move the sub from left to right and down and up, probably to get better
views of the souroundings. It was never meant to control the complete submarine.

Hey JB and Mark. You have both been so incredible throughout this sad story. I’m watching over here in Scotland and you have both been so professional. Thank you for your time, both of you.
Hi Scotland, watching from Canada

Thank you JB and Mark! I appreciate you Mark to give of your time for this tragic event! Thank you for explaining hard to swallow details of what possibly happened to OceanGate! Thank you JB! I became a huge fan at the Gabby Petito coverage. You are an excellent new anchor and I love your heart for people!
Agree! JB is the best most compassionate anchorman. When I want to find out facts and updates that I can rely on, this is where I come!
I found him during the Gabby Petito coverage as well and think he’s a great news anchor. He seems to have a really big heart and also seems to love what he does.
@@brigittemalloryme too! I think he’s awesome as a reporter. Kind and concise.
I too found him through the Gabby Petito case and what I loved the most is that he wasn’t sensationalist at all, very compassionate. Such a great anchor and a great channel.
Man you don’t understand how much we appreciate you doing these streams. I watched this all day yesterday and I remember hearing the bad news with you guys about the debris field and how heartbreaking it was. Please keep doing this and answer all the technical questions like you have been
What an incredible human being Mark is, tender heart, respectful, professionalism, and caring for humanity. God bless you Mark, thanks JB for your enthusiastic personality and dedication.

I thought, right away, that it imploded because of stress fatigue. And the furthest my “expertise” goes is having been an aircraft mechanic. I just don’t understand how the experts that boarded this vessel were not concerned about stress fatigue knowing there were multiple dives with this vessel.

Great question. Millionaires couldn't afford a background check.
.
They were not concerned because they were rich and they thought that bad things could only happen to the poor and not to the very rich. They treated it as a tourist attraction but it is not it's a graveyard one that they are now a part of and one that only the very rich can now make their last resting place.
I'd like to know if Ocean Gate's mothership on the surface registered the implosion in any of their instruments or heard anything . Is difficult to think they didn't pick up anything.
Yes . And why did it take them so long to report it missing.
Yes! Me, too. I hope they answered that question.
They knew right away but we're too cowardly to tell rush wife on board.
That’s what I’d like to know. If the navy picked up the sound of the implosion, how come the people on the mothership, with their equipment that was designed to detect problems with the hull, had no clue that anything had happened (other than the loss of communication)?
The dedication is appreciated. Thanks for keeping us informed and answering our questions. Hope you're resting when possible, JB!

I have really enjoyed listening to Marks knowledge on this subject over the last couple of days!
Thank you JB and Mark! I hope this isn't the last we see of this dynamic duo! Mark is a breath of fresh air!
They were told many times that the sub was not safe and they failed to heed to the warnings. Very sad but it’s only the fault of the ceo of Ocean Gate

In Memory Of The Victims Of This Tragedy:
Stockton Rush (61), an American submersible pilot, engineer and businessman. He was the chief executive and co-founder of OceanGate.[113]
Paul-Henri Nargeolet (77), a former French Navy commander, diver, submersible pilot, member of the French Institute for Research and Exploitation of the Sea,[36][39] and director of underwater research for E/M Group and RMS Titanic, Inc.,[114] which owns salvage rights to the wreckage site.[115] Nargeolet led more than 35 expeditions to the wreck,[116] supervised the recovery of thousands of artifacts, and was "widely considered the leading authority on the wreck site".[114]
Hamish Harding (58), a British businessman, aviator, and space tourist.[117][39] He had previously descended into the Mariana Trench, broken the Guinness World Record for a circumnavigation of the Earth, and flew into space in 2022 on Blue Origin NS-21.

JB You have been an awesome informant, keeping the public updated on what's going on because this has been a horrible reality for everyone. I can't imagine how hard it's been for the family. But thank you so much for keeping us updated on this tragedy.
The four days of thinking this boy was on the bottom of the sea suffering and freezing and banging on the sub were frankly torture
I can't believe I was here yesterday (European time) when the SkyNews report came up in chat, and when the Coast Guard gave the final press conference. Unfortunately I did not catch this stream, and now it's very late. I have tons of questions, but now I just want to thank the guests, and Mark, and JB who stayed online for practically 3 days with us. I understand it was a great loss for you and for many. Thanks and much love.
Wait did they say it was going to be the final press conference? 🤔 that's sad :( I feel for their families and friends
@monochrome3619 Yes the spokeswoman at the end stated it would be the last news conference for the Coast Guard.
I watched JB for the first time during the boat parade when my kids were sick and I couldn’t make it downtown. It was such a special day and watching JB as excited as me running out to see it as it came by, made me an instant viewer! Since then JB Walt Josh and the whole gang have been there relentlessly through all the good news and the bad. I really appreciate your work and dedication and the community you are creating.

Nice intelligent comment. Anyone with half a brain knows by now the 5 men are gone.
This stream isn't just about the deaths, it's about what happened.
Hello??!!
@@cknorris3644👍🏼 That is not the point. They have been giving us updates on this the whole time and clearly a lot of people are appreciative.
This is still an ongoing event, as they are on the question of even seeing if there are *any remains (not necessarily still intact) to be found, or what else could be in this debris field. We know that something could have happened to them, but in the next couple days I'm sure they're going to update us more. If you don't have anything nice to say, it is probably best to say nothing at all.
I feel for the families and I hope they find more updates along the way of this. This is a difficult time for them, I give them my support.
Thank you JB and Mark both for the incredibly nuanced, accurate and most importantly, honest coverage throughout this tragic situation! 🙏 ❤

Your Sub Engineer on this programme put it so simply. Thank you. :)
Thanks JB! Great reporting & excellent guest, Mark Martin. Very insightful. RIP to the Titan passengers.
I watched your stream all day yesterday JB and your coverage was incredible awesome job….. thank you from Bradenton Fl
This reminds me of the Hawaiian Air incident when the top half of the front of the passenger cabin separated from the plane mid flight. The cause was found to be microscopic stress cracks in the fuselage from the takeoff and landing cycles that weren't detected. The airplane skin had compressed and decompressed one too many times and it just broke off.
I love the wFla reporter’s voice. Very calming …
I used to go to sleep to this
I'm afraid that to me the reason for the collapse is obvious.
I fly FPV drones made from carbon fiber, as they take hits the laminate becomes separated from the fibers.
I once learned that the extreme pressures of a submarine cause the materials to be squashed, solid metal by inches sometimes.
Carbon fiber can not flex in this way and be ok, how did it last so long? The squash should break up the carbon fibers glue.
Submarines need to be built to compress and decompress their structure safely especially at these depths!
They found at first on the bottom, the tail cone, the front cap and the landing gear. These parts were attached to the fiber wrapped central core that would have shattered like glass as it finally imploded.
RIP and thanks for all the work contributed to the study of Titanic, they were brave I'll give them that, this is a terrifying idea to me!!!
Brilliant reporting and commentary on this awful tragedy
I can see how much Mark adored JB., hope they make good friends for life.
We love you JB. Thank you!
@26:32 I was wondering the same last night after learning about the 19yr old. I understand that it doesnt matter now, just would like to know if he had a chance to enjoy the moment with his dad without knowing they were in danger. Especially since he made the greatest sacrifice out of everybody there by going and also losing his life during it. Hoping that he did get something back at least before his life ended, since they never made it to the Titanic. 😢
don't worry, his mother (is german) gave an interview to a german newspaper. Her son was eager to go (the aunt a false one to make a buzz?). Because he was great with the Rubik cube and he wanted to establish a new record with it, very fast and at -3800m. He had applied for this record with Guinness Books. So he went very exited, laughing with his dad, who had brought a small camera to film the occasion. His mother was on the mother ship and she saw them off!
JB actually good journalism and Mark one of the few experts that made sense and cleared up what happened straight away. Realistic. Great streams
One of my favorite dead persons is Antarctic explorer Shackleton, who was derided at home because he prioritized bringing every man back over just being the first person to reach the South Pole. At the time (some) British big-wigs lionized Scott since he died trying.
Great Explorer!
It still remains... ppl being led to believe there was banging that might be the men signaling SOS was cruel. ..given they knew differently.
I listened to all 3 hours. Ienjoyed this. Thank you
Nobody covered this better than these guys . 👍
Thank you, JB! You and your channel are my go to place for the latest and trustworthy information. Martin thank you for sharing your knowledge, you have been great! Peter, you are the best YT lawyer! -from Victoria, British Columbia
It’s the same thing as the fuselage of a pressurized aircraft, a jet, etc. I fly business jets and the jets that I fly all have cycle limits. Though the cycle limits or number of times we pressurize the cabin of our jets have much higher limits, they are still limited for a reason. This is SO sad, I cannot even begin to imagine. I have had a few moments where I’ve heard our main cabin door pop or make noises due to the pressurization and it definitely gets your attention, not a comfortable feeling. I can’t help but wonder if these crew members heard any popping noises just prior to the implosion. IT’s haunting to think about. 🙏🙏
I absolutely love mark so much!!! Genuinely a great guy and very informative!!!
All of you gentlemen are so so knowledgeable ,,, thank you for giving me, just an average 🇨🇦Canadian, some understanding of this tragic event. 🤗
Good information.
Thank you Mark!!! We appreciate you!!
Mark is such a brilliant guest. He’s very smart.
I hope pictures of the debris field are handled with some sensitivity for the sake of the families of the people who were lost.
The bodies were vaporized. No bodies to show
I seriously doubt there will be any recognizable human remains, although in general I understand the concern about showing deceased humans [in whole or in part(s)] to the general public.
Human remains a side being bombarded with pictures of the debris field can be distressing for the grieving family and friends think back to 9/11 when you couldn't get away from the instant replay of the planes and the endless imagines of ground zero. I understand that interest is high but Monday morning quarterbacking for click bait sake or images for sensationalizing tragedy are in poor taste. Getting valuable information to improve safety and avoid further loss of life is admirable and necessary but that is going to take time and won't happen quickly to feed news cycle interests.
First time viewer- EXCELLENT reporting. I feel so sad for the loss of life esp. the 19 year old. 😢

Can I just say, sorry I love following you but Walt’s voice just smooths me, I just love hearing him.!!! Let’s go Walt!!!
So happy Mark came back. I had so many unanswered questions answered yesterday by him.
People keep saying it was quick while ignoring the likely noise preceding the implosion. They likely knew they were doomed well before the actual implosion which caused instantaneous death ☠️
☝️ This
This is a GOLDMINE of knowledge-based information.
Did the mother ship not have underwater acoustical equipment? The Navy heard the implosion but they didn't?
My question as well. They were so close to the implosion one would think they had to hear it.
Count me in. Even before the Navy reported this, I was wondering: Why didn't the Polar Prince detect a possible implosion, even allowing for the immense distance and tons of water between them? My simplistic, non-specialist answer is that, like the Titan had insufficient equipment on board, the Polar Prince had no sonar powerful enough, no acoustic detection system etc, to get an inkling of what had happened? OR, did they know something had happened? This is a sincere question, not a conspiracy theory. I've been reading a lot about this, but I feel we will get many more data as days go by.
I'm just really sad for the 19 year old boy. It's a shame. 🙏❤🙏
Father’s Day will forever be different for that family. RIP 🪦
Thanks for your excellent coverage of this tragic event. JB, Walt and others at WFLA are my go-to sources for correct, up to the minute news.
Does oceangate not have the answer to "where" in descent the implosion happened? Cant oceangate disclose the nature of the communication just before the sub went off line?
Yes but they have been curiously silent.
Surely they will have to provide these answers, and many more, as part of the investigation.
Thanks JB and Martin! Salute and much Respect to you Me Martin. Thanks for your time and knowledge and insight!!!
These conversations have had me riveted! Amazing coverage-the best out there. No pun intended but I so appreciate the deep dive.
Very informative, thank you for sharing.
Appreciate Mark's knowledge. Thanks
A lot of the questions could be answered if they happen to find the SD cards from the GoPros they had aboard.
Very professional live stream!
This was great and Mark is that dude.
my real question number one question what is the proof of implosion
What was recovered so far was either titanium end caps or unpressurized area but hull of the sub was not recovered thus making it the culprit in this implosion.

It was Nothing but total arrogance that lead to this disaster! But rip regardless 🙏
Very well put
They said they were exploring those depths so that others could learn more…except for that man never used the basic scientific knowledge of those who were there before him. They were warning him about the dangers of the massive pressure!

How does an insurance company agree to insure this without certification?
Oh that's simple. They don't!
Just like people asking how this could be licensed or meet regulations - it wasn't and didn't!
Watching the replay ❤
I want to say something i am an average youtuber don't have any expertise or even intricate knowledge study or experience about any of this but: I am under the impression that the depth of the accident is already calcuble and that some people will already know, here's why
Great stream btw and insight, right well during the course of this broadcast i discovered that the US Navy were aware of a sound at a specific time quoted as 1 hr 45? min from when the dive began,, in any event they will have an accurate record of the exact time. From the time the vehicle started it's dive, now despite my lack of knowledge, i know that a dive will be constant ie the rate of descend from the start. if we now know the time of commencement, and the time the then unidentified sonar implosion sounds, as was picked up by the Navy, and we know that the vehicle takes a specific amount of time to reach the sea bed said to be 2 hr :20 mins i believe?, then it's really simple math to calculate the depth if we know the depth of the seabed approx 12500 ft this tragedy occured as a very rough guess at 9375 ft, more accurate figures will be made with the exact data. cheers
Could a major cause of failure be hubris and rush for achievement? Like Titanic.
it would in no way shape or form help to tell the general [public anything until they were completely sure of what they were going to say being true....truth be told the public doesnt need to hear anything... the unified command did us a favor by sharing the info with us but sharing it with us before they had a clear idea what happend would have caused more harm than good
Why wasn't the sub tethered to the ship?? So it can be reeled up like a fish in the event of an emergency????
Have a question, what if just by chance a few of the bolts to shut the door were not correctly tightened. As I saw the hatch door was completely intact. To me that would be the weakest part of the sub.
They knew it imploded Sunday
If the navy command knew there was an implosion in the ocean near the naval ship, which happened about the first 2 hours it left surface, why did they not check further, send recovery before being notified by the Ocean Gate parent ship waiting for mini sub? It’s said that sister vessel waited unti after 6 PM to call coast Guard on this?
My understanding is they didn't find the sound until they learned the sub was missing, and as discussed in this stream, notified the appropriate people immediately.
How do they know that Titan was trying to drop weights? Was that reported via its communications before they failed?
I want to know how much time was between when they knew something was wrong and the implosion? Did they know they were in serious trouble?
This is awesome, what a great guest
The fear they must have felt especially that young kid who didn't want to go anyway.
What failed? Is obviously the captain. Had the owner listened to any of the warning signs, this would not have happened. It’s the same failure that sank the Titanic btw. The vessel itself worked tho. This wasn’t his first rodeo. He’s made several trips. The only thing we learned is that his design obviously had limitations. It’s only good for a certain number of trips. Scrap it and build a new one.
My burning 🔥 question: Why wouldn’t P.H. have known better than to have gone on the composite hulled vessel?
It was of aerospace grade carbon fiber done in partner with NASA at the Atlanta facility. By their own engineers! Would NASA steer them wrong?
@@maryannsinopoli1751nasa said they had nothing to do with oceangate no?
Thank you for getting to me questions! Great coverage! Crazy we had more live chat viewers then it's showing views. UA-cam acting up. JB is there a reason you don't have superchats on for the stream?
Hey Jeff Patterson, I ride airplanes and im sure i agree to some type of shit, but i expect that the craft is not going to blow the fuck up. This needs more regulations.
Your last comment, is the best we heard today. Within the correct procedures.
Stockton Rush seemed Impetuous when it came to the safety inspection of his Sub. Furthermore, Rush was prejudice with his hiring practices of experienced team members, and the firing of other staff members that questioned his safety standards. Finally, Rush used off the shelf parts and junk laying around his backyard on the submersible itself.
Love all the things I've learned from Mark Martin's discussions, I hope he gets some rest after all the streaming he's been doing! I'd be so overwhelmed after the 10+ hour stream he is stronger than me 😅
Great Job!!
You earned my sub, jb. No pun.

Does anyone know who the last crew was of the Titan sub? I can't find a list of missions none available at least I cannot find them. I know there were 13 Titan dives the last was end of 2022 and would like to know who the last passengers were that cheated death. Thanks
Despite waiver, were passengers misled?
Quality Engineer here. Where are the quality and inspection records? Where are the material test reports and the manufacturing procedures for each component??
A carbon fiber deep sea submersible with a plastic toy controller!? Perhaps Wile E. Coyote will be commissioned to design the Titan 2 using ACME surplus?
Wish i could of asked this live but, if they were trying to drop weights before losing communication, doesn't that mean something was going wrong before implosion?
So why doesn't every submersible 'test run' have an ROV at the ready?
Because there's absolutely nothing in place saying they have to. And if the person who built the sub and pilots it believes there won't be any issues, what good would an ROV be?
There are conflicting stories about Suleman, the 19-year-old. Some people said he was scared but went to please his dad bc his dad was so excited to go. I heard another report that said his mom gave Sulemon her ticket because Sulemon was so excited to go and that Sulemon was not full of fear as the other report had mentioned. Hm.
