I’m shocked that none of the ladies got the Oscar nod. Like who cares about the Oscars these days I know. But as for this particular movie…Ms. Uggams and Ms. Alexander deserves at least to be recognized for their tireless work on this film by simple mention on the list of nominees! Everyone’s talking about this Barbie snub…hello, here’s the real Movie! Here are the real Actors! American Fiction is great
Just realized that the three younger female actors were all a part of casts with four female friends. "Living Single", it's L.A counterpart "Girlfriends" and "Insecure".
That introduction was so nice...her saying, four of our most accomplished actors instead of, four of our most accomplished black actors was everything.
I want to see more movies where the black characters are deep and fully fleshed out in real everyday situations. I’m asking directors and producers to make more of those. I’m not interested in the stereotypical characters and am hungry to see the nuanced characters we really want to see. I’m white and if directors are aiming their stereotypical depictions of black characters to me, I’m not interested.
Yes, yes, yes and yes! Impeccable film and casting. Grew up watching their shows and films and it's so good to see these beautiful and talented women shine.
Love what's going on with this film. The ladies in the cast are strong black women who have great depth and character. Love, honor and respect is an amazing thing here. Leslie Uggams is one of my favorites. I've watched her most of my life.
I. White, but I have been uncomfortable for years with how blacks ( sorry if the white & black are not correct or are hurtful) have been represented. I am so glad to hear these women talk about representing b l acks as full people. And I've only seen Leslie Uggams and Tracy Ross act in other things. Now I want to watch all of them in whatever they've acted in and I want to see this movie. Thank you@
Sorry I tried to write 'I'm white" lowercase. I'm not exceptional. I'm just a person who loves to see and read about all kinds of people, especially women's lives and thoughts.
I suspect this was because she played a Black domestic worker. Yes, she was working for a Black family, and we all cheered at her wedding, but the domestic who is "part of the family" is an old trope, from Mammy in "Gone With the Wind" down to "Beulah" in 1950s television. The women these women play are all professionals. We don't find out what Leslie Uggams' character did professionally, but she wasn't a Black trope either.
Leslie Uggams - A wonderful, immensely talented lady. I was lucky enough to ser her in concert. A beautiful singer as well. My most vivid memory was realizing how much she loved doing what she did. She is one of those special people who smile so genuinely that their whole being lights up. She is pure joy.
OMGosh in tears!! I adore Leslie Uggams. She reminds me of my great childhood with so many "Black" movies and shows that I watched. Dianne Carrol, Leslie Uggams, Teresa Graves, Pam Grier etc were our idols as a child!! Cannot wait to watch American Fiction. Totally feeling this cast!! YAYYYY!!
Oh my. THIS is representation. These women together in this film... and in this interview is glorious. Brava!!! And Leslie ain't playin wit ya'll. "We're just gonna keep in everybody's face." I HOLLERED!!!!!!! She's poised and elegant but she is DEFINITIVELY Black. Oh how that tickled me!!!! 💁🏾♀🙌🏾🙌🏾😂😏🤣🤩😏
I absolutely love Leslie Uggams. I want Ms Uggams to know that I watched her on Sing Along With Mitch in Hampton, Virginia and that's in the south for sure.
It's wonderful to see us as a people continuing to grow slow as it may be in an industry that wants to keep us shucking an jiving in all the stereotypical characters that they want to keep us pigeonholed in I think it's an amazing cast of extremely talented women and it's a great pleasure to see Leslie Uggams in the Forefront
I just watched (streamed (thanks YT)) Sintara Golden (Issa Rae) reading the excerpt from her book, 'We's Lives In Da Ghetto,' and the sheer absurdity of it had me bursting into uncontrollable laughter. I couldn't help but wish I were in the theater sharing the hilarity with everyone.
I absolutely love seeing this beautiful array of timeless talented women together on screen. - Brava 👏🏽 Plus I’m a huge Jeffrey Wright fan so I’m here for all of it!!
Can’t wait to see this movie and thank God, something different for us. Just looking at those 4 beautiful Black graceful women in varying hues and undertones is mystical. Black power 💪✊
sheesh that was amazing. I would love to see the discourse between this film and "origin" as they both surround heavy topics with family values at its core. both deserve all the praise and continuous conversation. God bless
Saw the movie and truly enjoyed it. Mainly because it focuses the barriers a black author, like myself face. Love the interview of women I so much admire. I want to say this is the first motion picture movie I have seen Erika in and Ms. Uggams in a very long time (need her secret for ageless skin).
Awesome interview. Writing that shows them as a whole person. Whew. That hung in the air because even in 2024, you know that that is a rarity. Tragic. The talent that is out there!! Uae it!
Issa pulls absolutely no punches about her Blackness. I love and admire her for that. If "I'm Black and I'm proud" was a person, it would be Issa Rae. ❤️🖤💚
❤❤❤❤this film, I was sad that Tracee’s character was cut short, but she shined in that short time! I mean this cast is past future present! Amazing❤❤❤❤
Intelligently spoken, elegantly dressed, women. Ms. Uggams, Ms. Alexander, Ms. Ross and Ms. Rae, enjoyed watching and listing to the interview. Wish it could have been longer.
Excellent Interview. My only thought is - it would have been nice to hear more from Issa Rae too. She seemed to have some constructive criticism that the industry needs to hear.
Loved the movie, these ladies and this interview. American Fiction allowed everyone to shine. The casting was perfect. I look forward to the next film from Mr. Jefferson.
Based on this interview, I look forward to seeing this movie. As a senior citizen who once attended high school in a West Indian-Caribbean island and had the privilege of playing the part Leslie Uggams played in "Black Girls " for my HS Video Club back in the 1970s, It is so delightful for me to see these women I admire perform in what appears to be a great, fun, feel-good movie.
So loved this movie, not the movie I had planned to see but it was showing. I was so happy to see, about 15 minutes in I was I was totally in love with it. Such an amazing cast and fantastic writing. Highly recommend it!
Leslie Uggams truly is an icon. She is multi talented , and a class act... professionalism and poise abound.
Leslie Uggams needs to be honored by the Kennedy Center ASAP, .please.

I don't remember seeing her since The Cosby Show, but I recognized her immediately.

She is very talented and beautiful.
Me 2. Bill Cosby always spoke very highly of her, and predicted great success for her.

Love the authenticity of mutual respect & honesty.
"American Fiction" is a truly great movie. Truly.
I really enjoyed it
I saw it. But, imo The Zone of Interest is the best film of the year.
@@yvonneplant9434not sure why that was necessary, what was said was it was a great movie.
I'm going to check it out
It’s perfection!❤
Just realized that the three younger female actors were all a part of casts with four female friends. "Living Single", it's L.A counterpart "Girlfriends" and "Insecure".
They know how to roll in sisterhood 💕
🤯🤯🤯
That's significant, indeed.
That introduction was so nice...her saying, four of our most accomplished actors instead of, four of our most accomplished black actors was everything.
This was an interesting interview with talented people. Okay,, Ms. Alexander has refused to age.
For real, the ancestors are taking real good care of that beloved jewel of a woman.
She looks amazing
Exactly. I love her. I still watch "Living Single."
Yeah, she looks great!
All Black Queens and they deserve their flowers!!! 👏👏👏👏👏
The last time I saw Leslie Uggams, was on Fox Television Empire, playing Luscious Lyon's mom. Great actors portrayed here.
“I don’t think it’s a question for us” NEXT CALLER!
Yes! So well answered
…and ALL of these women should have been nominated for Academy Awards for their performances. 🎭
No. Watch more films.
No they shouldn't have 🙄😒
Bless your heart.

The talent in this room is astronomical!
More movies like this please!
Yes!!!
We can't say this loud enough.
CBS Sunday morning are really doing the darn thing! They seem to have the best interviews!!!
Leslie Uggams is a national treasure. So many are ignorant of her trailblazing contributions to the acting and performing arts.
This was a beatifully made film. It's funny, smart, and thought-provoking all at once.
I adored Erika Alexander in Living Single! Great to see her here 😊

How wonderfully stated. I fully understood what you wanted to convey, thank you. I share the same sentiment.
As much as I loved this segment, it pains me that Myra Lucretia Taylor was not mentioned for playing “Lorraine.” Her role was vital in the movie.
I suspect this was because she played a Black domestic worker. It may be because she is far less known than the other women

It's amazing how Issa is a beast behind and Infront of the camera 😮😮😮😮😮😮 such talent ❤❤❤❤
So elated seeing Leslie Uggams, again. I grew up listening to her on TV and albums in the 50s and 60s!❤

Erika Alexander should of won More awards
All these women make my heart swell with joy and Jeffrey Wright is always good.
I am a fan of all of these women and to have them all in the same movie, with the incomparable Mr. Wright, is like a big cinematic present.
So ,so proud 🥲😢of this beautiful quartet of women making moves 🎉and showing us how its done without scandal or demeaning themselves ❤
Glad to see Erica Alexander. Love her! Living Single is one of my favorite shows all time.
