    I just bought this before seeing your video. I'm changing my machine this weekend with this upgrade. I custom built a 3' x 4' machine and need something more powerful than the 10watt laser it has. Marble run is great. That's my next project.

      I started trying to install mine on my Longmill Cnc router but the wiring is way too short and mine needs two pin connectors for input D. Dangit I had to order some pigtails and wire to make my own harness. Oh well maybe next weekend I can get it going. I milled a bracket and got it installed. the tiny bolt pattern on the supplied mounts wouldn't fit my 40mm wide mounting holes. Got that done. Also mine don't have the shims to set the focus so I guess I'll makes some. My 54 yr old eyes can't see good enough to try to line up that kickstand do dad. I also want to try to get my Ender 5plus rigged up for it if I can figure out how to defeat the Marlin firmware stuff and get it to run from a computer instead of that silly little touch screen. Anyone have info on that?

    Excellent video. Just bought one of these lasers on sale (~$340 US!), hooking it up to my OpenBuilds CNC machine. Can't wait to give it a try and replicate your findings. I did have to build my own mount, but being that I already had a CNC, that was a simple task. I also enhanced the build by adding a compressed air hookup (I understand 20psi-30psi is ideal, based off your other video). One other thing to note since you commented about it with the included acrylic depth gauges, the new one model has a nice adjustable slide out built into the body of the laser. Looks like they are taking ideas from their 40W laser and putting that into the v2 of this laser, at least on the body. Thanks for all the great content and providing details on your power/feeds.

    This was a really useful review for me, and well shot and narrated. I was unsure, but after finding lots of evidence that this is a legit product, took the plunge. I paid £280 which is mind blowing given the prices of other legit 20w modules out there, including the next cheapest option, the Comgrow, which I'm sure is an OEM of the LT based on some research, and £150 more, albeit it has a height calibrator on the body. Going to be attaching to my 1m sq MPCNC, so will have an awesome cutting platform. First jobs will be cutting parts from the MPCNC Low Rider 3. Full sheet 20w cutting (8' x 4') for only a few hundred quid. Will probably by the LT 30W when available so I have a redundant option. Many thanks, great content, helping folks like me save money.

    HI James, Ive been a fan of your channel for not as long as Id have liked and I hoped you could help answer a question. Ive been shopping around for an upgrade to my current laser and like the look of this one. However when it comes to the depth of cuts per pass ( Im pretty sceptical) however where these modules state what they can do in one pass does that mean it'll be double the depth in 2 passes ? So if the seller/ supplier/ manufacturer states it'll cut 3mm MDF in one pass does that mean it could cut 6mm MDF in two passes ? Thanks.Jim.

    Very nice video and content that I haven't seen for this 20W output laser. I have purchased one of these, and have been scouring the net to try to get good ideas on speed & power to cut, as well as engrave. I have mine on a Stepcraft system--which doesn't allow me to use Lightburn so to try to do engraving speed/power, that would take a lot of time. Would you be able to add picture of your test board with speed/power for the engraving & cutting? That would be awesome... Did you test anything other than the 3 mm plywood? Thank you!

    Hello James, I have a Masuter Pro with the Laser Tree 80w(20W) laser. I had posted a question about laser engraving on a Facebook forum about Lightburn and was informed that the Masuter Pro has a top speed of 2000 MM/M, which I confirmed on Fox Alien's website. In your video you mentioned that you engraved the mandala at 4000 mm/m. Was the Mandala done on a different machine or is there a way to achieve a faster speed? Lasertree only has cutting specifications on their website and I have been having difficulty photo engraving (speed/power even with test grids). Trying to use basswood, baltic birch and oak. Any settings tips you could provide would be appreciated.

    Could you recommend a software to generate Laser toolpaths. I purchased this laser module to mount on my DIY rounter table. I currently use mastercam, but obviously the g-code does not call out for spindle speed changes/laser intensity. My machine runs mach3.

    • @larryrobinson7492
      @larryrobinson7492 4 місяці тому

      I would think you could use a simple GRBL post processor to make the necessary gcode. Just look at the code generated and see what it looks like. If your using pwm output mine uses M4 for variable intensity, also I believe m3 works for constant intensity. S300 is 30% on mine but really depends on the setting in your firmware. I haven't looked into my Mach 4 plasma table to see what I would have to do if I use it on that also. Good luck, you probably already figured it out by now.

    I put this comment in your last Cnc machine review but it applies here too in comparing lasers:
    Hi James. I know you are at a stage with your channel that doing reviews are a good idea. What I would like, as many others would, is for you to decide on and then use some quantitative and qualitative assessments which you can do. This would mean that each cnc can be compared with at least a similar price range or similar specification machines. As the assessments are not a personal opinion you should be then be telling the manufacturers what your standard assessments are. By continuing your current “everything is really nice “ “this is not a good thing “ . As I am trying to figure out what Cnc to buy I come away none the wiser in spite of watching all your builds/reviews/in-depth videos. I love your work but now you are becoming the goto channel for Cnc content I think a more scientific approach with a downloadable file (for Patreon) to use as a comparison between Cnc S to find what’s right for you.

    • @JamesDeanDesigns
      @JamesDeanDesigns  Рік тому

      Hi Stanley, I try to do this where possible, for example most of my laser reviews start with the same cutting and engraving tests to give an idea of what it's capable of, I just dont dwell on it too long. On lasers specifically I recently did a video scientifically comparing the power of all the lasers I had....it has actually been one of my worst performing videos so I'm not 100% sure people do want a scientific approach from me.
      More recently on CNC machines I do the same depth and speed cutting tests to gauge what they are capable of but its very rare you can really accurately compare 2 machines. Either the prices are different, the power is different etc. However in saying that I have recorded a comparison video between the FoxAlien Masuter Pro and the Sainsmart 4040 Pro as they are bother similar in price, size and power so its one of the first times I can really do this.
      In terms of trying to figure out what people want to buy, that's such a personal choice and what is good to me may not be good to someone else, and what I consider to be the best machine this month may be different in 2 or 3 months down the line.
      I genuinely do appreciate the feedback and I'll try and add more quantitative tests in on my reviews (albeit at this stage im not 100% sure what those would be)

      @JamesDeanDesigns  3 місяці тому

      I 100% agree. I've campaigned for this is most of my laser reviews because they should only really be promoting the output value which is the important one. I can at least confirm this is a genuine 20w output laser 👍
