Julian didn't have to go that hard on the "A BOOMBOX IS NOT A TOYYY" but he did, he did it for US
So many people in today’s indie genre are inspired by the strokes and Julian Casablancas including myself
I really appreciate this man
The Strokes are the most influential band of the 2000s period
countless bands have named them as the main reason they started making music. I'd like to hear who you'd put over them
Lickyishere
The Strokes have influenced way more bands than the White Stripes and even than Radiohead. Of course Radiohead were (and still are) very very influential, in a different way, by their experimental approach of everything.
I agree. Although the White Stripes and Radiohead may be more commercially successful, the Strokes literally brought rock back from the dead with Is This It, and influenced so many others to pick up a guitar
I’ve been in love with Julian Casablancas since I was 14 in 2002. Seen him live twice, his music has gotten me through some of the darkest times of my life.
"From front man Julian Casablancas, *all the way down* to bassist Nikolai..."
Ouch.
I appreciate you for making this. I love Julian so much and hearing people talk about him nowadays cheers me up knowing that none of my friends listen to anything he does
Julian is love .. probably my favorite musician of this century.
I got into The Strokes by first listening to Julian in Instant Crush, I decided to check out the band and my obsession with them started right away, his solo work is really amazing too! He also has collaborated with Pharrell Williams, Danger Mouse, and Exhibition. Julian is one of my absolute favorite artists, along with Damon Albarn :) great video!
I see that a lot of young people (teenagers) started listening / discovered JC due to his collaboration with Daft Punk! that's nice!
little habibi cool man thanks for sharing. I first heard of them when their first album came out. My brother had their album and I stole it and I was hooked. Instant crush is an amazing song I love it. Have you listened to any of Albert Hammond jrs music?
julian and damon are one of my fav artists and i also have crushes on both of them :((
human sadness is my favorite song and probably always will be, it's like the modern equivalent to day in the life by the beatles
Albert Hammond Jr would be a great video too! His solo stuff is my favorite out of The Strokes members
My favorite strokes album is probably is this it but my favorite Casablancas project is definitely Tyranny, that album is perfection in my eyes and I listen to it constantly.
Roger Vee it really is, it’s so different from what you’d expect him to make
he’s still in my top3 best songwriters of all time. His lyrics are absolutely masterclass and wonderful
I remember the first Strokes song I ever heard was 12:51, I thought they sounded amazing so I checked out the rest of the Room on Fire album and I've been hooked to the Strokes as a whole ever since.
The first song I listened to was Last Nite.... it was 2007. I've been hooked to them since then. I love every single side project they've done.
First song by the Strokes I listened to was Someday and just immediately fell in love with their sound and the members.
@@madlnneh3672 I was lucky, I guess, because I saw the Strokes on some late night talk show and it was when 'Is This It' had first come out and they played 'Last Night' and I was hooked from that point on.🤘
i came across julian casablancas through the whole snl lonely island thing too and that led me also to looking him up and discovering The Strokes. i was like 8 or 9 at the time and just casually listened to a bunch of music on youtube and didn't really think anything of it. i rediscovered and became an actual fan about 2 years ago and i can now say i acknowledge and appreciate julian and The Strokes so much more.
i started sing when some friend show me The Strokes and Julian vocal style influenced me so much, i like it how them sounds, i just love these guys
I saw The Strokes when they were touring for Room On Fire. This was before Julian sobered up, and let me tell you he was interesting to watch 😆 Climbing the stage curtains mid-verse while the rest of the band just kept playing, unsure of when he’d come down LOL
Lucky you, to see them on that tour ! Wish i had that chance ! Since you're a Strokes fan, maybe you'll like my latest project? Hope this finds you ! K
I'm a Room On Fire guy too.
First Strokes album I heard by them too after hearing Reptilia.
yessir, just something about the guitars and the overall feel of the album really gets to me. a great hybrid between a is this it sound and a FIOE sound.
Have you heard the new Voidz album Virtue?
That may be the best album I've ever purchased.
definitely! hands down permanent high school is my favorite song. something about julian’s vocals and that riff in the beginning just really do it for me.
My favourite song too. The last minute or so of that track is absolutely stunning.
I may even prefer the Voidz over the Strokes to be honest.
I felt like I listened to someone reading their Wikipedia page.
I was literally listening to threat of joy before clicking and it synced up, i got so confused
Fellow massive fan here. If I were to add anything to this video, I’d mention Julian’s feature on Sparklehorse’s last album, as well as more of his influences (Television, Velvet Underground, Pavement, Bob Marley, Guided by Voices) and modern bands his influence on was huge (Cloud Nothings, Car Seat Headrest), and the underground New York scene& the musicians in it he’s known for being friends with (e.g. anti-folk’s queen Kimya Dawson or Regina Spektor) just to enrich the content, y know. Also I’m not sure about featuring bits of vids/songs and YTs copyright system but it’d be cool if you added at least a few seconds of each song mentioned. Having a few breaks like that would create nice dynamics in your vids. Outside of that, p cool stuff. Liked, subscribed n waiting for more!
first of all, thank you for this amazing feedback! I will definitely consider adding more snippets of the songs i’m talking about. as far using certain YT clips, every time a video is uploaded youtube automatically checks for copyright issues. so as far as I know this video cleared it. usually they let you know otherwise! trust me, this video took like four tries to upload haha.
There's no indication that he was influenced by Television. That's a pedelled myth
A few notes. You should have used the proper cover of 'is this it', not the USA version. Also Reading festival is pronounced like 'redding'.
I saw the voidz live and honestly love all of Julian’s stuff. I want to be like him
Julian is the soulmate I never met, he saved my life, sounds cliché but it true
So for the past months i have been listening to the strokes and have loved all their albums, like all the different styles the albums offer.
I've been listening to The Strokes since I was a baby :) Thank you for this informative video, it's always nice to learn new things about one of my favorite bands!
Talk more about Julian Casablancas, he's my crush!❤
@@edgarramos2455 actually I saw him for first time in that music video (sorry for my bad english)
I always saw the strokes shirt around from time to time but I never listened to them until I was 23 in 2014. Everyone was going to the concert and the Chelsea in Vegas. So I wanted to check what the hype was about and I saw documentary too with how their first album was made and I instantly became a fan and listened to all their albums. The hype is real they’re my favorite band now.
Agreed! They are my favorite band too! And I just love all the members of the band. They are all so cool.🙂🤘❤
I learned nothing from this but i appreciate your love of the strokes
Great video man!
I got into the Strokes around the same time. Angles was about to come out, Under Cover of Darkness was their big single at the time. I was watching TV and there was a commercial for their concert at MSG. I thought their name sounded really cool. So I went to my computer, looked them up on UA-cam, instantly recognized Reptilia from Guitar Hero, and been in love with them ever since!
Julian is a master song writer and continues to be the face of modern rock music today
I knew the doors had something to do with it, Julian does kind of remind me of Jim Morrison
I cant wait for the Voidz to come out with more material
“The dude went hard” that’s all I took away from this
Great video! Love Julian's music, lyrics, and philosophy haha. I wish there was more information on The Voidz so you could make a video of their music and the impact is has brought on The Strokes/Julians fanbase.
I haven't ended up the vid yet, but wanted to say
Julián Casablancas has patented a bicycle which can move without electricity or pedals. Just like a lazy bike.
I'm so excited about the new record that they're doing with Ruben again I hope it's like come down machine
Thank you sooo much for this video you r the first one doing this in the whole youtube .
Your channel reminds me a lot of Alfo Media also the Strokes? iconic
For those of you interested in his features, because he really takes over every song he’s featured in, “modern girls and old fashion men” is a beautiful duet the strokes did with someone (I can’t remember her name 😅) and “no one out there” is a song he’s featured in and his voice is great in that one.
The Little Penguin the singer is Regina Spektor on Modern Girls Old fashioned men
Navaz Merchant yes! Thank you. It’s a beautiful song though for sure.
i had a similar story of discovering the strokes - julian's feature on instant crush and then the rest was history
Despite popular opinion, Angles is my favourite album; it’s got so many poppy hooks!
I love him so much
That’s exactly how I made the connection between Julian and The Strokes hahaha BOOMBOX
I was really happy that I was at NYC when future present past came out and saw them at Governors ball
You lucky devil you. I haven't seen them live yet. I almost went to the NYE concert last year but my mom got sick and had to go to the ER. So I unfortunately missed a great concert because I saw some segments that people who attended put on the internet the next day. And now, with Covid, it's hard to say when they'll play next.😥
Phrasez for the Young 🔥
Julian's collaboration with Daft Punk was great. So I totally agree that it's an excellent song. I think, apart from the Strokes and the Voidz, that is his best collaboration.
Dude you know what you're talking about because Julian casablancas is like my Mick Jagger and Paul McCartney and everything combined because he's my favorite rock star of all time❤❤❤
You can get where I come from when you understand the influence that I get from The strokes and the voidz and everything Julian casablancas does because this man in The strokes and the voidz are legends❤
If you like The Strokes, check out
Ted Duchamp - Midnight Sun! Cheers!
Very very very very very very very very very very very underrated just like Queens of the Stone age just like the killers just like a lot of American bands but The strokes are my favorite and Julian casablancas needs to be recognized more🎉🎉🎉
Future Past Present is my favourite strokes album
Julian is love ❤️
I like you didn't find Jewlz til way late in his career. I think he has already been with The Voidz and The Strokes had already received Their Grammy for The New Abnormal. It was actually a tiny desk performance by Julia something of the song Someday and The next thing I know I'm Obsessed with this Man!!! Then the new Voidz Album dropped and I can't get enough! The Voidz is the Best band since The Deftones!!! I even found HarMar Superstar and Promiseland from Cult records. Thank You for making this.
I was first introduced to The Strokes by the movie trailer Somewhere back in 2014.The first song was I do anything once. Ever since than , I've been a fan. P.S. Human Sadness is phenomenal.
Thank you for making this video
One of the best early strokes videos is their performance of 'Take It or Leave It' on Letterman. Fuckin beast.
Also, I recommend you read 'Meet Me In the Bathroom' by Lizzy Goodman. The entire book is about the early 2000s New York scene, primarily The Strokes.
Thanks for the video man
MOF was the best album in my high school era....of all music.....the style was nostalgic like a 70s sound..........
Listen,
Out of the first three albums there is not one better than the others. They go together like three parts of an epic motion picture. They are greater than the sum of its parts. One cannot fully appreciate First impressions without knowing that it was born out of Is this it....
A wise man once said, " how can we know where we are going if we don't k ow where we've been?"
next : Albert Hammond jr
They didn't release Future Past Present in 2013? Lmao
Die hard Strokes band ☺️❤️ love them so much
im in love w him
I am just in love with Julian in a humanity is beautiful kind of way!
His dad was rich and his mother was a model. His grandfather was also rich and his grandmother was also a model. LOL
I have a theory . . . Julian Casablancas is the mystery guy behind ( a bad lip reading ) . . Check out that song boombox he did with the lonely island . Pretty convincing.
I was invited to The Strokes in the same kinda way, but with Daft Punk's song Instant Crush
soma .. so good!
Where can I watch the first clip at? I don’t know it. Please and thank you (:
The Room Is On Fire! 😍Ommmmg so much love for everything all these guys have accomplished. But seriously(sorry, not sorry) Julian is exceptionally yummy.
So glad you're doing this series now ❤️
me too!! the strokes have been a big part of my life for a while now. so this series is going to be super fun to make :-)
_Reading_ Festival. Haha, I't pronounced like 'Redding'. Great video though.
Wait a second... Julian is 42?! He looks 24
First strokes song I've ever heard of was reptilia.
Good taste in music.
I totally agree!
Hey y'all! I know this is a little shameless plug, but if you're really into The Strokes, you should go check out my band The Extrangers! Here's a link to one of our songs: ua-cam.com/video/kuGA_j8nc1k/v-deo.html
how do you evade copyright strikes?
Just gotta use quick snippets of the music videos. Can't use any audio longer than 21 seconds.
It is "future present past" hahaha
5:15 it’s pronounced ‘redding’
Phrazes for the Young, not of the Young.
It’s Reading (like Red)
Who Came Here from MrBeast 8 mill spesial
TheSavagesLX Yayeet haven’t seen the video but what does this have to do with mrbeast
I have the same birthday as him
This dude is a victim of the cult:
Boarding school (we know what happened there)
His obvious trauma
Fashion industry parents
“Cult” records
Song names like: first impressions of earth, SOMA, drag queen, barely legal, innocent, threat of joy, etc
FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF EARTH
This is just the wiki
You pronounce his name wrong.. "Casa-BLANK-as" ... I used to pronounce it wrong, too. But I heard him pronounce his name on an old interview and realized me and most people, had been saying it wrong.
It’s Future Present Past not Future Past Present and it got released in 2016 and not in 2013
Do you sing?
Copy and Pasted from Wiki
👏👏👏👏
Hahaha, it's not deceiving, dude. They're different words, "angles" and "angels". They didn't misspell it or anything, haha.
It's actually pronounced red-ing festival not reading like reading a book. Awesome video thou bro, been a huge fan of the strokes since i was a kid. Btw my band has just released a new single, would mean a lot of us if you checked it out, try searching the stumble and shake - Haha , or just click our channel, we would love to hear your thoughts!
Lol did this guy just called Reading Festival Reading xD It's pronounced Red-ing festival not Reading like books ffs.
my favoyou'reite strokes album is eighties comedown machine
Like this if you wish you could age like Julian.
Roger Vee if I most be honest.. I wish he would do something about he’s skin and hair.. it’s so unhealthy to look at and if he will or can lose some weight and gets he’s style back on track.. but that’s just opinion and if he feels good of what he is now and music is great that’s all there matters in the end.. ! 😎
@@bacht4799 He actually lost a ton of weight
Jonathan good for him .. and I mean it .. and again if he didn’t want or couldn’t.. it would be alright because at the end its about the music... ! 😎🎼
Nooooo you made this video before me 😭 Oh well. Goon one Roger
I agree. Julian is awesome. The Strokes are great. But I wouldn't want to age like Julian. That is also not why I'm into the music. To be honest that probably makes me like him more. Music shouldn't have to be all about the looks. I think he makes a statement by not looking the way a record label or his fans would want him to.
