Thanks for getting back to me. In your video at 2:03 seconds you are Root Pruning a tree in a Green Plastic Box/tube !… this is what I’m asking about Where you got it From ?.. would appreciate your help. Thanks
This is a repotting tray that I bought from B&Q, the local big box DIY store. It is intended to allow you to keep all the dirt and roots together, and has places to store your tools while working. Here is a similar product on Amazon: www.amazon.co.uk/Compact-Garden-Tidy-Hobby-Craft/dp/B015WE1ZFC/ref=mp_s_a_1_13_mod_primary_new?crid=2FPR23B4X4KLF&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.nKQqnuDVcsFXWc6SsS-hut74anFm80SFOb5ze711naeVbpmtsbXrn0EJV4XJlyx6eJiuuMeyXObEDOPVesx-1HFOJ5aP-Gztgq1ecllVaF_ji67zvM-86JNz2TwsrFP-zit6NUtVXflCD6iMeMqV-oVTkvMIZWtOlwIp7ZN0C3hELI-M1SKtgd1bBrsNKxWkBbPBtaxNsCsVni-uu0jQaQ.RCzx6rweM1bu-KoX6niJmFjgXUtQkXjWE4E_UAtLXj8&dib_tag=se&keywords=repotting+tray&qid=1724231124&sbo=RZvfv%2F%2FHxDF%2BO5021pAnSA%3D%3D&sprefix=repotting+tray%2Caps%2C185&sr=8-13
Too many videos on youtube give the impression of quick bonsai. This video is refreshing because it shows the realistic time frames. 4+ years in the ground thats just the foundation. Thanks Jason nice watch

Hi Jason, have you got any advi e when putting something like a satsuki azalea in the ground when it requires some like akadama soil? Would love to thicken my one up faster than in a pot
You could try that - it would definitely thicken up the tree. You need a minimum of three years. They prefer a slightly more acidic soil but should be ok in regular garden soil.
Thanks Jason. Excellent video highlighting again the oft overlooked fact that trees are designed and don’t just happen. The design is guided by what the current owner of the tree thinks this tree should look like in N years where N may be > a lifetime.
Yes and no. It depends on a number of other factors such as the soil. In the ground the tree has access to organic soil and microbes which it does not have in the bonsai pot - and drainage is loss of an issue too.
Nice video! And to get good results, use first local species. You ll never get wonderfull olive tree in UK as you can see in Spain... difference of sun and warm is amazing. In spain they ll never have nice Fagus or Mapple...

Neat video. Curious though, what if I use a HUGE pot for small tree. Will it grow / develop at an intermediate rate?
Yes and no. It depends on a number of other factors such as the soil. In the ground the tree has access to organic soil and microbes which it does not have in the bonsai pot - and drainage is loss of an issue too.
I really enjoy watching your videos, they give a lot of inspiration. greetings from Indonesia ❤❤
