  • Welcome back to the Trick Shift Garage! In this video, we are going to show you how to install a new undercover engine splash shield. Not exactly sure what this thing is actually called but it's what we need to replace the old one that was unfortunately lost. After taking the bumper off to adjust my headlights one night, I took a quick spin around the neighborhood and unfortunately went to fast causing this splash shield to be sucked up under the car and quickly disintegrated. So now we are putting a new one in! This particular splash shield works on 2007 - 2009 Nissan Altimas and 2007 - 2014 Nissan Maximas. If you have any questions, leave a comment in the description below! Enjoy!

    I hit today smth. w/bottom of 2009 Nissan Sentra. There was horrible crash sound, I even don't know what it could be, didn't see anything, probably some hole on the road. There were some cracking sounds on every uneven part of the road. I thought smth w/suspension, then watched this film. It was very helpful to me, thank you very much. When looked at the bottom seems like everything is O'K, but the splash guard came apart on right front. I attached it back w/ retainer clip (for 7.1 mm hole, 8 mm didn't go in). Tomorrow will try more how it sounds, maybe it was my imagination about more rough ride. On right front I saw a leaking strut though. They told me about not good front strut at Fire Stone like 2 years ago, maybe it was that one, but after some time I went to Nissan Dealer, they said nothing wrong w/front struts. Probably after the hit it went fm not very good to bad. Can someone tell how long you can go w/leaking strut? Thank you.
    Update: I did some research and the answer to my question above is: Replace the Leaking Strut immediately, don't drive with it, the car can loose control. It is dangerous to drive with a leaking strut. I'm putting Nissan in my shop immediately. 1st I wanted to erase my question, but then decided to keep it, since many people might have same question, though a lot of info on the subject if you google.

      Thanks for commenting, Olena! A leaking strut should be replaced as soon as possible. Thanks for watching! 😊

    Great video! I just bought a 2012 Maxima but was missing all the splash guards and 1/2 of the L/R fender liners (tire rub damage). Couldn't figure out all the parts i needed to order and your video did a great job of showing all the components and how they interface - including your under-engine splash guard. thanks for making!!

    Hi. My guard has been off for quite some time. I do remember it covering what I thought was the whole underside so was a bit surprised when I was ordering on Amazon that it really is just the size you show in your video. Does any other part under the car need to be covered as well? I have a 2011 maxima. Thanks

      Hi Quin, I did some research and found two more pieces that you should have to cover your engine from water:
      www.carparts.com/details/Nissan/Maxima/Replacement/Engine_Splash_Shield/2011/SET-REPN310111.html?TID=gglpla&origin=&gclid=CjwKCAjw5s6WBhA4EiwACGncZY-y3CWR-yS4EA6jRH-PhysjFHy3VQMqW9HHjOWVFCmHtbx3fqYHwhoCfbcQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
      I would just check your car to see if these are still on the vehicle. Hope this helps!

    needs the metal screws with washers on the fender part otherwise hitting an animal rips the bumper off. i'm on my third one.

    • @TrickShiftGarage
      @TrickShiftGarage  Рік тому

      Yes, the bumper is held by once screw on each side and plastic fasteners the rest of the way. The animals must really like your car! Stay safe 👍

    I have a 2016 nissan maxima and I am wondering if this video would be of use for this year’s model. It seems to be about the same and I will buy the part for this make, but is the procedure of installing the same?

    • @TrickShiftGarage
      @TrickShiftGarage  2 роки тому

      Hello Donlad! This video won't be much use as Nissan changed up the splash shield for it. I imagine the process is about the same, a bunch of plastic fasteners, maybe a few screws and it should go on, but I'm not 100% sure on that.

    Hi. Thanks for the video. I wanted to buy the splash shield from a Nissan Parts & Accessories vendor, but the price is $86.00, not including the shipping. My questions for you are these.... Is it the same material if I buy it from Amazon? Should it be more sturdy if I buy that splash shield from a Nissan Vendor??? or the material does not matter as long as it protects the engine?????? OH PLEASE, HELP ME TO DECIDE!!!! I have a Nissan Rogue 2009.... bye.

    • @TrickShiftGarage
      @TrickShiftGarage  3 роки тому +1

      I think overall it's the same/similar material as a Nissan part. It comes rolled up in a smaller box so it's flexible but it's sturdy, I just took mine out of the box and hung it up vertically to get it straight, or leaving it out in the sun would probably do it too. For a splash shield, personally, I'd just go with the Amazon one and save your money. Auto manufacturers parts are good but they usually overprice their parts. Thanks for watching!

    I like the effort in this video. But, take it from me, those cheap aftermarket knock off "flimsy" and I emphasize flimsy as opposed to OEM Nissan parts are far apart! Original Nissan parts are rigid not floppy soft plastic.
    Just my opinion, spend the extra money for OEM rather than cheap flimsy crap that will rip off in traffic...

    • @TrickShiftGarage
      @TrickShiftGarage  2 роки тому

      Haha yeah! I was fighting with one the other day because my blinker bulb went out and that thing was just bending around, not rigid. Next time around, I am definitely going to get some OEM ones!
      I appreciate your opinion though and thanks for watching! 👍

    Do you have to take off the whole bumper

    • @TrickShiftGarage

      No, you'll just have to pull off some of the fasteners. The bumper should be able to stay on the car. Thanks for watching! 👍

    What if the holes on the car are broken?

    • @TrickShiftGarage
      @TrickShiftGarage  3 роки тому

      Hmmmm... If the holes on the car are broken, I would try to see if you can use a zip-tie around something on the car first, then zip-tie through the hole on the splash shield and attach them together.
      Or if that doesn't work, you could drill a new hole right next to the broken hole and then drill a new hole on the splash shield, (make sure they line up) and then use a push fastener there to attach.
      Hope this helps you out! Thanks for watching! 👍
