Well he did sign jani Hawkinpaa Which sounds like a great signing deal at 6 foot 7 220 pounds and a right-handed shot which the Toronto Maple leafs need but he is going to be the second dud in 2 years Toronto has picked up off of Dallas the first one being John klingberg Now Jani and they are saying his career is finished he has a bone on bone problem with his knee that is not reparable and they're saying his career is finished so what the hell did Brad Sign him for We need D now

I see this as very specific free agency where Leafs picked up three experienced D for around the price of Marner's current contract. It highlights how trading Marner for forward help and/or futures and cap makes so much sense for the team.
Without question. That damn anchor is stealing some good years from this team.
Marner isn't going anywhere until at least July 1, 2025

Reilly could open up the cap too. He also keeps stealing plays from Marner, forcing the core 4 to play D when they are terrible as 2 way OFF.

all his moves have been positive. I can't see any problem he's created, just some he's inherited. We'll see what happens this season but shoring up the D is clearly the first priority.
A lot of CapFriendly GM modes have leafs parting ways with jarnkrok, kampf, Timmins and Robertson. Addition by substraction but also can bring in quality players/draft picks. LFG

I love all of Brad's move so far. Great job signing players on deals which are well under 5 million. My only hiccup is Tanev. I am indifferent to that contract. Could be another Klingberg. Tanev will be fine short term but 3-4 yrs into that deal we may see a buy out
I am an impressed with the way that Tre adds the right ingredients needed for a deep playoff run! Unlike Dubas who just didn’t understand it’s not ALL about speed and skill. It’s vital to insert guys in the lineup who can protect the superstars and young guys coming up! Can’t be having Cowan getting choke slammed like Knies in the playoffs! That was initially addressed with Reaves, but I also like how he brought Domi in, a guy who can move the puck, fly on the ice, and has an edge to his game! And now he’s added Tanev, an ingredient the Leafs have NEEDED for YEARS!!!!

Would have loved to hear somebody ask: This team has scored 2 or less goals in 13 of the last 14 games in the playoffs, what do these signings do to help that change?
We now have pretty much no cap space left, and since it sounds very much like they aren't trading any big money out the door, our forward group will be even thinner this season than it was last season.
I've always felt that a teams defense should be more or less put in place during the offseason. Systems and chemistry are so important to defensive play. To me, the trade deadline is where you buy goals. The Leafs can afford to see where guys like Robertson, Cowan, and Minten are at. We might even see a surprise from someone like Roni Hirvonen.
DON'T TRADE MARNER!!! Berube will light a fire under his ass. He's one of the best playmakers in the league. He just needs the right motivation. We will regret moving him because we won't get what he's worth in return. Then we'll watch him win a cup with another team.

@@torontothegood he was bought out because he wasn't worth the money he was signed to back then. For what he's getting now it's decent. He's getting 250 more than Lybushkin. That's a fair contract.

He always had a great d-core in Calgary so I had faith in him rebuilding it.
Brad was knows so much hockey he sentenced the flames to 10 years of purgatory before they can rebuild and even begin to compete for a cup again after the worst trade in nhl history. Just another in the long line of old boys club members you love like dubas, lou, jfj, nonis and burke. If this was any other sport the richest club in the sport would think about hiring the best in the business instead of another teams scraps.
@thefuturegadgetlab8870 Tkatchuk asked for a trade in the final RFA year. His value was not that high, since he would only sign long term with very few teams.

Interesting how he forgot to mention Liljegren in listing his signings. He’s trade bait along with Robertson, Jarnkrok, Robertson and Kampf.
They probably signed him so he doesn't walk and we get nothing. As bad as he is he is still a rhd and once the market dries out he will be easy to move I think.
He was not a UFA and was signed before July 1st.

Doesnt mean a thing when boston got better. We added 2nd and 3rd line dmen to the 1st and 2nd lines. Not to mention they will be dinosaurs at the end of their contracts.
Agreed. They are leftover parts from great teams. Teams who have stud d-men and found no use for these guys anymore. They are not going to get younger or more motivated sporting a Leafs jersey. We’re still tinkering around the edges with whoever is available and who we can afford in our cap hell.

The Matt Murray signing at such a bargain price is huge. Woll is the starter. He will probably get injured at some point during the year. Stolarz becomes the starter and Murray is a solid back to Stolarz til Woll gets back. Murray may never play. But he is there if needed and though injury prone he should not be called upon to play too many games this season. He is insurance.
More than likely, he'll be getting in a good chunk of time with the Marlies. And, with him coming off a long rehab, Murry is gonna have something to prove. That's something that they can take advantage of

I think if Marner plays lights out that may increase his value and then the Leafs may get more value back from a cup contender
I hope Berube gives Timmins a chance. 10pts, +9 in 25 games with no PP mins, 3rd pairing mostly defensive zone starts. He was better than Liljigren in every way. Bigger ,stronger ,smarter, smoother transition s out of the Dzone. He was better than Giordano and Brodie.

I don't think the Leafs should get rid of Marner or Tavares. Marner has lots of potential--he just needs the right coach to light a fire under his ass. Berube is that coach. Tavares is a good Captain and will also benefit from Berube's coaching style. Tavares might not score as often as Mathews but he scores when it matters. We have a good team especially with these new additions.
We also know for sure that Tavares will not entertain any trade. He'll 100% invoke his No-Move Clause.
If he does go, it'll more than likely be through Free Agency, or retirement

I love how the media guys ask the same question twice, the question that just moments before, Treliving said he wasn't going to get into. Different player, yes, but if he's not going to get into a contract topic with one player why would he with the next player. Waste of a question.
I disagree with the max Domi signing. I would have tried harder for Tyler Bertuzzi.
The problem with Tyler is that he was more expensive, and with our cap situation and needing to get better at the blue line, it is harder to get a 5m than a 3.75m. those 1.25m can be a difference for other signings and although we all loved Bert, he got the contract he wanted with a team that should be great moving forward and had plenty of cap space.
LOL! Bert was almost twice as expensive and half as good.

Everyone wants to trade marner. We never had a good goaltender this has been the problem in playoffs. We had good history with belfore cujo potvin but we never had a good goaltender since those guys. Joe Woll looks really good to me. He will steal games in the playoffs and take us to few rounds and team will grow confidence. This is going to be a good coming year.

i really hope robertson get to stay because he is an excellent player and hopefully given the opportunity to get more ice time to show his potential. he has been only play 10 a game and he is scoring goals and not to mention he lights up the scoring when he is sent down. just look at his stats. you have guys on the leafs that are making more money and more ice time than robertson a he scoring more than them..wtf is that all about???. not to mention being fiipino he has got a great fan base here in toronto which has a great amount filipino communities in ontario

You haven't been paying attention. 5 of the Panthers were 30 years or older and 5 more were just under 30. The reality is that Stanley Cup winning teams are not the younger teams.
Also its a way of overpaying and getting around the salary cap signing older players long term. Leafs have the money.

The Leafs as it stands now will have six of them by the time the playoffs start next season. That’s 30% of your roster! Three tenths of your roster is 33 and older. Just think about that. The Panthers won the Cup because they’re a good forechecking team. They’re good at forechecking because they’re fast. The Leafs do not have fast team speed and now you can see why. Somehow Treliving couldn’t see the problem and got even older.
@@PP-rr1gz Tavares, Reeves and Tanev are the only players in that age group, but look at the overall age of the team. The cup winning Panthers had 9 players, 30 years old or older (Cousins, Bobrovsky, Ekman-Larsson, Okposo, Reilly, Rodrigues, Stolarz, Tarasenko), and all but a couple of them played regularly. 5 more players were 28-29 (Barkov, Lomberg, Montour Reinhart, Verhaeghe). They're not by any stretch considered a young team, and only 3 players on the roster were drafted by the Panthers. The Leafs do not have more players older than the Panthers...they're actually a younger team.

The best team in the league knew even they had to get younger and faster because if they don’t the rest of the league will.

Teams are allowed to go over by 10% prior to the start of the season. The ones that don't make the final team (including Murray, who will be acting as the backup goaltender), will start the season with the Marlies
Dubas screwed up signing nylander and set the bar for the others.. its hand cuffed the leafs since.. get acgood goalie.. nothing works without confidence in net
