Can't thank you guys enough!!! My son who has a ton of boardgames has been egging me to get into boardgaming but my mind normally wishes I was doing something else by the time he's done setting up the pieces and explaining how the game goes. You guys explained the game real well and i'm quite convinced that this will be my first foray into the world of boardgaming. Another exciting part for me is to 3D print and paint my own models of the Mechs
So glad you are enjoying BattleTech MrBinggy, and with your son no less which is great. Keep commenting to let us all know how you are progressing with your training as a Mechwarrior.
I got this for my son, for Christmas. Hoping he loves it as much as I do. I'll have him watch this video for start-up. Great video. Thank you!
A great gift idea Carl. Glad that the videos are of help to you.
Thanks you very much for this turorial, i begin my journey in battletech with this great video, please don t stop!!
Thank for your guide, I just played Battletech. From Indonesia 🇮🇩
Glad our video was helpful. Enjoy the rest of our channel as we have plenty more BattleTech related content.
I played it back in the '80s ... always a great game!
Hey folks, this is fantastic. I've been watching other vids until I came across tour channel and this is the first that made me understand. Very well done. Excellent work, and thank you for helping get my head around some of the rules and such. Those background graphics during the combat phase were perfect. 👍👍👍
Glad it was helpful Hal. The boys appreciate you taking the time to comment.👍
Got this for an anniversary present, I've never played a tabletop game before, I'm a huge fan of the Battletech/Mechwarrior pc games. This video helped me a ton! Thank you!
You are welcome Eric and thanks for watching.
Thanks for the primer. Watching a play through makes the rules more comprehensible. Also for explaining that the starter set, and AC set run slightly different rules.
Glad to help William. The Beginner Box is excellent.
I received the hardcover Battletech Manual for Christmas, reigniting my desire to play. It's been a LOOOOOONG time. (late 90s or so). Since then, I have bough the Clan Invasion and Game of Armored Combat boxed sets. I have the Beginner's Box on order (because I WANT that Griffin mini). When that arrives, it's Battletech O'Clock.
Great video, I learned a lot. Well done.
Thank you Venom. Welcome to the channel.👍
The guy on the left looks like Bryan Cranston and Sean Bean. Also, great video!
Thank you for all the information. Ive watched this tutorial over and over. What would be very helpful for newbies like me would be and overhead view. That way we could see the hex movement and the dice count. Thanks again!
Thanks for the praise MeGolf92. You will be happy to know that we do have a top down camera in our later videos to show these things. Enjoy the channel.
You are welcome. I’m just watching this video over and over so to get the basics. I’m fixing to move on. Thanks
Wait, a regular PPC has the same range as an AC5? Holy crap, that's terrifying.
Indeed. During the early succession wars the PPC was feared. The Awesome battlemech with three PPC's was king (and still holds its own in the future timeline of the game). Oh, and thanks for commenting Duchess Van Hoof.👍
Now that's a great tutorial! Well made 👌 thanks
Glad it was helpful Jonathan. The boys are always happy to hear they have helped people. Explore the rest of the channel as there is much more BattleTech goodness.😁
Great video, thanks guys!
Kool, its like Axis & Allies Miniatures mixed with Warmachine/Hordes :)
They forgot to include "Target Jumped +1" in the Target Movement Modifier in the Attack Modifier Table.
Love the video! Shout out to the fly! Having headphones in made that quite a shock. 😅
Thanks for the praise Matthew. We shall call the fly Bruce. Who knows, Bruce may make a future appearance.😄
@@AlphaStrikeWePlay Bruce: may he fly again!
Look at this cool video with cool people!
Thanks for the thorough run-through of the beginner box set scenario. I've been playing a demo game with myself today to make sure I understood the rules before I try and play a proper game with my Dad next week, and this provided a helpful demonstration I could cross-reference with.
I've been a bit confused with how the damage model works, as I understand it, the record sheet is mirrored. So if you destroy a left arm on the damage model, of for example the WVR-6R, as what happened in your example game, the AC5 is not destroyed despite it being on the left arm of the Wolverine from that perspective based on the art next to the damage model, since it is the left arm from the Wolverine pilots perspective that gets destroyed? If someone could confirm that I'm understanding this right, that would be much appreciated. There is probably an easier way to think about this.
Hello Slimey. Glad you are enjoying our videos. Regardless of how the art looks for a BattleMech for weapon and equipment placemant, if a location is destroyed by having all the dots filled all the equipment that has slots is considered destroyed also. Once you start to dabble in the construction rules found in the BattleTech: A Game Of Armored Combat boxed set it can become more clear also. Does that help?
First scenario we roll 2D6 to determine attacker and defender. Is that roll part of initiative or do we roll 2D6 again for initiative?
Unless the scenario states who activates first in the first round you should roll again for initiative. BattleTech has many rules to try in your games anyway.👍
@@AlphaStrikeWePlay Thanks for fast reply.
I am freaked out by the fact that it appears Like Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) is telling me about BattleTech.
Also, even freakier Wolverine is playing as a Wolverine.
I think this one has broken my brain
Great vid, me and my brother followed it, only bit caused confusion for us is the missile fire. What was it that determined you had a 10 rack of missiles? Surely you don't just choose how many you fire, otherwise everyone would pick the most amount??
If the missile launcher says 'LRM 10' it is a launcher that fires a salvo of 10 missiles at a time which is x1 shot of ammo that you mark off. The Griffin has 12 shots with this launcher. So if you hit you roll on the '10' missile section of the table to see how many missiles actually hit from the ten. Does that help clear it up?
@@AlphaStrikeWePlay Yes, thankyou! I've found Facebook groups now so questions can be answered in about 5mins flat! Good vids you two doing, I'm enjoying them. Me an my brother have discovered battletech in lockdown, brilliant game.
Thank you for this. Are they bringing some of the basic boxes back in print? And some of the lance packs back into production?
Thank you
Currently, you can get the Beginner's Boxset and the Game Of Armored Combat boxsets, and they will be reprinting them for some time to come, as they are popular. About lance packs, Catalyst Game Labs is revamping the whole line of BT miniatures with the Clan Invasion Kickstarter. They are redesigning around 90 or so mechs, to be released as new Lance packs or Star packs (for clan mechs) in general retail after kickstarter backers get their stuff, in two waves, as the waves are released.
Wave 1 should have been out in March this year, but that has been pushed to autumn, as the production was stopped because of COVID-19. Wave 1 is currently in production and consists of the Clan Invasion boxset, 4 mech packs and 1 elemental star pack (25 elemental miniatures in scale). After Wave 1 is shipped to backers, you can expect the items in Wave 1 to hit general retail a bit later, but certainly before Wave 2 is shipped. One thing to note is that one of the pledge levels was for retailers/stores, so retailers who pledged will get their stuff for sale at the same time as regular kickstarter backers. You can find several online retailers have already put out Wave 1 products for preorder, so these have probably pledged in the kickstarter and will get the items when Wave 1 is shipped.
You can check here to see what is in the Clan Invasion Kickstarter www.kickstarter.com/projects/450703636/battletech-clan-invasion/description
You can even pledge as late backer, but Wave 1 is locked, so you will only received the items you want as Wave 2 (both Wave 1 and Wave 2 items). If you are interested in getting the new BT stuff from the kickstarter, I would advise you to get the Wave 1 stuff that interests you from the retailers, and to participate as late backer for Wave 2 stuff.
@@MikeKnell2884 thank you so much for that explanation. It isn't clear. But you've made it better.
@@WARdROBEPlaysWWII Tell me what isn't clear and I'll try to clear it up.
@@MikeKnell2884 Time to save money to buy miniatures. Collecting Star Wars gives some experience in budgeting. Nowadays Star Wars products are artificially high, so it is better to buy Battletech for a fair price.
Great vids! subbed
Thanks Jason. Welcome to the channel. 👍
Great video gents. I just picked up the beginner box but it doesn't appear my record sheets are laminated. Is that something you did?
Hey Wes. Great question mate. Although they should be able to take a whiteboard pen Adam and Tarron decided to laminate them anyway. As they were going to be used at events it made sense to protect them more.
Do they have the Hunchback or the Centurion in circulation yet? They’re my favorite IS Medium mechs. Or would I need to go to Ironwind Metals for those?
They are coming in new ForcePack boxed lances expected in March 2021. You can preorder both from Alpha Strike in Australia now buy following the link in the description. We also sell the Iron Wind Metals versions.👍
@@AlphaStrikeWePlay Nice. Do y’all deliver to the US?
@@IntuitiveYakOfAllTrades We do. Shipping can get a bit on the expensive side unfortunately.
This definitely answered some questions. My only issue is that the quick-start rules dictate intervening terrain (light or heavy) isn’t taken into account for the hexes a target or attacker inhabits, and it seems they are counting the terrain a target is in. Can anyone comment on or verify this?
Thanks for commenting sodanugs. On page 6 of the Quick-Start Rules book in the Beginner Box it explains that the hex occupied by the target also counts for cover modifiers if it is a light or heavy woods. Does that help?
@@AlphaStrikeWePlay Ah, that makes sense! Thanks a lot
Great video 👏
Thanks Atilla. We hope you will enjoy the other videos as well. 👍
@@AlphaStrikeWePlay Enjoying all, also recommend for tabletop wargame fans👍
Great video, something im still confused about maybe someone can answer here. If both opponents hit does the initiative loser still apply damage first? Then even if you lose initiative you can destroy your oppennent before they can return fire?
Thanks for commenting Biomega. Damage is applied at the same time after all attack rolls by all players have been resolved.
@@AlphaStrikeWePlay Thank you for the reply! Will be playing my first game soon.
On your third turn. I think. You walked backwards 4 out of heavy woods? You counted 3 for the woods and one more hex. How did you end up with 6 on the dice/mod? Im a total newbie. Im learning
Great question MeGolf92 and thanks for watching our channel video. Ok, the number on the dice represents the target movement modifier that an opponents needs to add to thier total target number to hit. This is based on how far a Mech moves and not how much was spent. One hex of total distance travelled adds +0 so the dice face was set to '6' because in the beginner rules you cannot get that high, even for the speedy Locust. Does that help?
@@AlphaStrikeWePlay Yes it helps thank you. I use to play Mech Warrior on the PC back in the old days. So I found BattleTech at my local hobby shop in Austin Texas. Keep these kind of videos going. They are very helpful for us beginners. Thanks Again!
