  • Why has the Dangote Refinery stirred up so much commotion? Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote has hit back at Nigeria’s oil industry regulators over allegations made about the quality of products produced at his refinery. It’s the latest part in a years-long struggle to enter the Nigerian oil and gas industry.
The Breakdown with Adefemi Akinsanya ‘breaks down’ what’s happening.

The ones doing the actions are Nigerians, but through a hidden hand at the back, always remember "AFRICA IS NOT TO BE INDUSTRIALIZED AT ALL COSTS". So the ones who upholds that statement and motto are the ones doing it while hidden and they love it when the blame falls on the citizens of the relative country and not them, as the problem was with the Iraqis or Libyans or Syrians or Zimbabweans or Africans, just like the one who really take the soul and rule the soul to be taken is GOD and yet we blame on the accident.

How can it be monopoly of NNPC has 4 refineries, Dangote has 1, Waltersmith has 1, BUA has 1 and we have many smaller scale refineries.
NNPC and their cronies purposely made NNPC’s 4 refineries moribund so they can keep importing fuel ⛽️ now someone is building a refinery that may render their imports needless they are kicking against it. If you don’t want Dangote to “Monopolize” then fix your 4 refineries, issue permits to other refiners to also enter the market and compete.

The main issue is good governance, now you all are trying to center the whole issue on a private company.

Any nation that depends on importation to meet the needs of its people will never experience sustainable economic growth and development. You cant continue to be importing cheap and heavily govt subzidized tomato paste, cement etc from foreign countries into Nigeria and then compete in terms of pricing with local manufacturers. In international trade, just as free competition is important, so also is fair competition important if not more. Its not just about free competion but fairness of the competition. Products imported from overseas are cheaper but in actual fact, they destroy local economy. When you import, you create job overseas and import mass unemployment into the local economy and unemployment results in socioeconomic crises. Support Dangote. If any business wants to compete with Dangote, let them set up industries locally and compete with him. People like Ibeto didnt have local cement manufactring plants in Nigeria, he was an importer which was why Dangote took him to court and his license was withdrawn. Let Ibeto and others who want to compete with Dangote build local factories and compete and this will bring about economic development nd prosperity for Nigerians and Nigeria

A country where the few favored individuals are happy to be in that position and are comfortable to know that the country depends on them is not a good thing and will not improve the economy. Mumu as you old reach you no get single sense.
Did you learn economics in school at all?
Many naira is chasing the cartels little/few fuel why do you think fuel price goes up every December ? And you have to go queue up for it?
Didn’t you hear that you brother in the fuel cartel will look his depot and go home just so they’ll be scarcity and price will go up. Then they’ll open the depot and sell all their old stock for the new high price.
Dangote’s refinery will stop all that none sense, once cartel lock their depot for Christmas everybody will turn to Dangote, BUA, waltersmith etc. it will reduce price of fuel
It will also stop your over dependence on US dollars
Currently when you want fuel the fuel importers will go and collect US dollars so they can get fuel increasing demand of US dollars in Nigeria and negatively affecting the naira
As a result of this when ever Dollar goes up price of fuel in Nigeria goes up and when that happens all goods also go up due to increased fuel and transport costs.
As it is no country on east will accept your useless naira to refine oil and gas for you because of how much value it loses daily only Dangote will accept naira from Nigerians to refine oil for Nigerians so you better wake up.
Dangote is merely the pathfinder/front runner because no one else has the capacity (money, business acumen, risk taking ability and expertise) that Dangote has but immediately Dangote started his refinery BUA followed others too are waiting to see it he succeeds they’ll enter as well.
So don’t allow your hate for Dangote and rich business men in general to becloud your sense of reasoning and judgment.

99 percent of the planet know how to benefit from their own resources. Only in Africa does the question of resource curse arise. Because detractors fear you might wake. Contracts can be rescinded on national security/policy grounds. Or, even basic unfairness. No one has a right to keep Nigeria dysfunctional. Best of luck to the one man challenging our default position of stupor.

There should also be other issues related to OPEC, BRICS and other Govt and International Stakeholder Interest Groups and Investors which might also include even Environmental Interest Lobbies that have been looking at the Oil Exploitation Areas for a very long time.
Western Industrialized Nations these days, are highly interested in such matters as Environmental Social Governance as part of CSR and in light of the recent signing of the Samoa Agreement by several African Countries, this may have also been part of the package of the Samoa Agreement, i.e. the inclusion of ESG in CSR.
