This is why I watch content from Mark as reviews and tips are all there to make the viewers game better. You would learn so much from a lesson with him.

Always been a fade/slice over the top swinger, from starting my upper body too early. Best instruction I received was to focus on a slight delay at the top, which allowed my hips to get ahead and keep my shoulders closed longer. And the key for me for all of this to happen smoothly, as in sequencing, was to loosen my grip. It allowed everything to relax. New subscriber - I like your videos. I gotta say, the exercise of placing the club further forward than impact and then pulling it back in one unit is amazing. I've been having backswing issues for awhile now, and this has helped me more than anything.

I always picture “slinging” the club back, and through. And always strive for a complete finish. Your plane, weight shift, and turn will take care of themselves, if you’ll swing freely, feeling the weight of the club. I love the drill of swinging the club back to a full backswing, and then to a full finish, repeatedly, almost like you’re warming up. If you were to video yourself doing that, you would find that you’re doing a lot of things correctly. For example…. If you’re someone that has trouble reaching a good finish, then you’re manipulating the club off it’s natural plane somehow, or stalling out natural momentum. Let’s say you’re someone who finishes too low, and your arms buckle. You’ve likely swung over the top, and stalled out your hip rotation, shoulders too “spinny”. If you finish like your club goes too much towards the target, with high hands on your follow through, you likely have too much hip slide, and right shoulder drops, but doesn’t rotate through. Your finish can tell you A LOT about your swing faults.

Great video Mark. I really like the back and fourth conversation between you and Pete. I am for sure someone who gets so frozen over the ball and than wonder by I hit crap shots. Will definitely be putting these drills while at the range.

Nice video Mark and Pete. This video I had to share with a mate because we both make similar mistakes.
Can you do a video on wedge choices with Pete? By wedge choices I mean using what wedge from where and when. The higher the handicap the more the need for this video.

That’s really good. I got down to 6 without lessons, I’ve gone up to 9 after lessons, it’s the thinking that ruined me last season. I lost my ‘just hit it’ mentality. This will help me so much

Great stuff! Love the reminders about having the swing be a motion and let it flow. I definitely try to loosen up with my waggle a bit pre-shot. Helps me a lot with my swing, though I still have to work on staying in the moment when I hit shots and let it come.

    Great video.
I agree when people get to p4 at the top they are lost. Completely lost on how to start down because they don’t have flow and they are just trying to hit positions on the way down at p5 parallel and p6 so by the time they get to p7 at impact they flip or chicken wing and all that. But when you get them just to flow in the swing practice swings and you record they actually look dynamic.

At the end of last season I used the right heel up as my swing trigger. It worked quite well now I will have to relearn it for this season

Great, fun video, with some great tips. I'd add on the classic drill of trying to hit the ball with each hand/arm alone, and get close to 50% of regular distance. Hard to do this without good sequencing, tempo, and positions, and it *feels* very close to how it should on a regular full swing.

  • @jonrizo900

I got into the single take away move which actually produced an extreme overswing for me. I'm very flexible so that when i got to the top, my swing felt unfinished so i continued my shoulder rotation which got my arms starting to bend and wrists breaking down so i looked like John Daly. Led to a lot of swing issues.

Great that the 'traditional ' myths of the swing are being exploded with the thoughts and ideas of movement and freedom - I've introduced a shuffle into my address to start my swing sequence and it works in terms of strike and interaction with the ground and equals more distance- excellent video Mark

I’m working on distance from the golf ball pre shot. Sometimes I set up too close and feel like I can’t use my hands. Sometimes I feel like I’m reaching for the ball. In between is the sweet spot. I’m a 9 HC

I think McIlroy said he once had like 20+ swing thoughts before hitting a shot and was struggling. He then simplified it and was able to hit better and free his mind.

Hey Mark! You refer to yourself as "adding loft". I (like many of us, I assume) have always been in this camp as well. I have a shallow sweeping delivery and am still trying to create a reliable downward blow with irons, especially 7 down... maybe a vid showing how you manage it...? I already use 3 and 4 hybrids, but a 5h goes too high... help

The one thing that keeps me from getting the club into weird places is simple: constant light grip pressure.

For decades, I resisted hovering the club and waggling, because, as a hacker, I thought it would interfere with me bringing the club face back to the ball on the proper path. I started doing it several weks ago and I'm hitting driver and irons better and hovering even helps me with 3 Wood from the turf. Oh, and I actually DO that up & down "poor player's waggle" at 7:27 to loosen my arms before i start to waggle on path before taking the club back! 🤣🤣🤣

So does this mean I can impress my playing partners with my waggle? I might even be happy with that short lived respect... until the truth of my swing reveals itself.
Good conversation and some great points that were new to me. Well done guys.

Everyone has their thing. But if you hit enough balls regularly working through extremes and speeds and tempo, there’s a natural swing in there that’s not going to risk injury. Everyone can explain their thing but it won’t necessarily work for everyone

    • @PMTCards

Same, idk what you play, but for me going from game improvement irons to less forgiving specialty wedges is pretty obvious.
Half swings are great, but I can’t get the distance I need at times with the half swing. Then I’m trying to slow a gap wedge or not toeing a specialty wedge.. neither works lol
