    I spent many times at France Park during the summers circa late 70s, early 80s jumping off the cliffs and swimming. Best of times never to be forgotten.

    I've been going there since I was a little kid, now in my 40s. It's my favorite place to camp, or sometimes I just go there to walk around. They also have scuba diving, disc golf and now have an inflatable water park in the swimming area. They also do a haunted hayrides/woods in October. In the 90s they had diving boards in the lake, waterslides & innertube rentals. Good memories!

    France Park has been popular as far back as I can remember in the 60s. The teenagers either went there or to Millions which was down the highway back toward Logansport. The park used to not have sand on the beach and you had to wear tennis shoes if your feet were tender. I used to go there with my big sisters and brother-in-law and then took myself on the 70s. I was a life guard in the late 70s there when Ken Bennett (RIP) was in charge of the place. People could jump off the cliffs then. We had one college student jump off the 38 foot cliff and hurt himself and we had to take the rowboat out to get him. In the early mornings, we would climb up the low set of cliffs on the left side of the beach and there was a spot you could tuck into the cliff and sit. Always good times there in and out of the water.

    What a shame for people to deface a public park. Why do people want to destroy our natural resources?
    Thanks for a nice tour of the park. It looks beautiful.

    I went there with my Aunt & Uncle, plus my 2 brothers many times when we were little kids in the 90's. My siblings and I are now in our early to mid 30's.
    But I remember being a little kid, jumping from the exact spot as you were standing in the thumbnail, off of that tiny, but scary little cliff. So many memories. I really miss those ol school humongous black tire tubes we rented to use as floaties, and the cheap nachos & hot dogs we got from the tiny concession stand. Good times.🥰

      Sounds like some great memories! I know the cliff diving is against the rules these days, but I bet it still happens. Rock on!

    Love Frances park! Bout 40 min away for me. Wish they would open the other one up on the eastside of town. Don't know if y'all have heard of this park in Illinois but it's just by you guys over in Georgetown, well somewhat close. Lol. But it's called forest Glen preserve. They have a awesome backpack trail that's bout roughly 13 miles if you do the cemetery and tower. Definitely worth the trip and adventure!! Cool camping and picnic areas around the trail!! Awesome video guy's!!

      @@SlonesWildernessExpeditions no problem man!!. Funny as I was backpacking i thought this would be perfect for you guys! It took me bout 5 hrs to do the whole backpacking trail. But stopped at the cemetery and tower which takes you off the path for a sec. Hopefully look forward to a video in the future if you document it

    20 years ago my friends and I got banned from the park for the summer for climbing those cliffs. We definitely shouldn't have done it as there were signs everywhere saying no diving or climbing.

      Right, next time I'm there, I'll give an overview. It's kind of all over the park! The largest part is in the front and east side of the park, with a bunch more sites on the west that are peppered throughout the woods, and even a camping section down inside one of the old quarries.

    There are paddle fish in this water and to those who have never seen one they are alarming! Huge ancient fish!

    We just left France Park. While camping there, we enjoyed following in your footsteps along the Quarry Trail. We found the heart cave ♥️ that is a steep climb up there! We got lost at some point due to all the side trails 😜 After we passed the Observation Tower twice, we finally figured it out. We greatly enjoy your videos. New subscriber!

      Thanks! It takes a couple times of visiting the park to get a real lay of the land, otherwise, those side trails can be confusing! Glad you enjoyed.

    I live near France park and we always go there in the summer, the big cliffs are very dangerous, but the 10-40 foot cliffs are super fun to jump off. Me and a bunch of my friends always jump off the cliffs. If anyone can go to this park plz go it is soo fun😁

    France Park seems pretty cool. The viewer there looks nice. No way would I jump from there. Never seen a railroad bench before. Other than downloading the All Trail Maps thanks to you, I need to use it. Just a shame with those North American Knucklehead. You need to patten that.

      It's a nice park, and we often forget about it even though it's only a 40 minute drive from us. Thanks for watching!

    what a great place, I remember when you went there in winter. The water looks beautiful in the quarries. It's really a shame about the North American Nuckleheads everywhere... I encounter them in Fort Harrison every day. Are the campsites all drive in sites or are they good for backpacking to some of those?

    • @SlonesWildernessExpeditions
      @SlonesWildernessExpeditions  3 роки тому +1

      The knuckleheads are everywhere it seems! Unfortunately, all the campsites at France Park are drive in sites. It's nice for that kind of thing, but there is really no getting away from it all here. 🤷‍♂️

    Excellent video! Awesome you ran into hikers that just viewed your previous France park video. Definitely enjoy France park and we almost went there on the eighth, but stuck with our local (Frances Slocum State Forest(OkiePinokie) Fun place,but those North American knuckleheads seem to be running rampant! Thanks again for the excellent content!

    Looks like a great place to visit. Interesting fact about hitting the spring and filling one of the quarries overnight. That would make for some interesting things to discover when diving!

    • @SlonesWildernessExpeditions
      @SlonesWildernessExpeditions  3 роки тому +1

      Yes indeed! There's a number of things they couldn't get out when it flooded. Apparently, the dive club has also added more things down there too.
