Hindi in the form of Awadhi or other dialects is much older than Urdu or standard (shuddh) Hindi. But when the standard form of Urdu is concerned then it's older than the standard form of Hindi. As a matter of fact, the standard Hindi was very much in the rudimentary stage when we got independence, while the standard Urdu was flourishing. My grandparents were literate in Urdu and I take pride in all languages of Lucknow- Awadhi, Urdu and Hindi.

Karachi vibes because he is from UP, the Karachi Urdu speaking educated people actually were from UP, Bihar. So the Pakistani intellectuals you refer to are people who migrated from UP and Bihar who of course didn't hv much money unlike the feudal lords of Punjab and Sindh but they formed the overwhelming majority in civil services and govt jobs and formed the middle class population of Pakistan, they are the ones who were called mohajirs and they regrouped and started MQM in Karachi and remained relevant in Karachi and Sindh region Politics. So these Urdu speaking population who btw are one of the five major ethnic groups in Pakistan namely punjabi, sindhi, belochi and pathan are a major constituents of Pakistan.
