My father's people are from the Bundesland (State) of Lower Saxony. My mother's (ten Broeck family) are from near Münster in Westphalia. Northern Germans are thought of as being cold, but I love them, and just see them as intelligent and analytical types, but very friendly. I wish I were Bavarian though! They enjoy life

Of course, the state also contains Gottingen, the home of a university linked to 44 Nobel Prize winners and a quaint tradition of kissing the Goose Girl. Lena Meyer-Landrut, the singer who won Eurovision with "Satelite", is from Hanover and is 32 at the time of writing. Trio, who had a slightly mad worldwide hit with "Da Da Da" are also from Lower Saxony.

Good video, although women could not become monarchs of Hanover, so they got their own king in 1837 when Victoria became the British Queen.

Thank you! It seems my family name is from Ostfriesland (Leer) and is Frisian. I really love the history, because America is such a young country. If I can learn the language I want to visit and especially learn more about my ancestors. They were amazing!
Your entire country is about the same size as only my state! So I think it would be easy to travel. But I don't want to be a rude American tourist. Would the people forgive my bad German?
    Love from the United States!

Niedersachsen has been founded, or better defined by USA in order to wipe PREUSSEN from the map.

Lower Saxony has existed longer than Prussia being German.

I have never heard this idea before, ever. I am an American, so I should know.
You think that this is some glorification of Saxons on the whole, and a dislike of Prussians, militaristic Germany somewhat, etc.? Maybe a dislike of the more Slavic side of some Germans in the East?
It doesn’t matter what name you give an area, if the Saxons are especially culturally and ethnically/ancestrally particularly significant/numerous in Northern Germany, esp., they aren’t going anywhere. So we really don’t care what name you give a place, ultimately. Some of us, at least, DO care about the movements of certain peoples over time, etc. We care about PEOPLE, esp. people that we feel more akin to, etc.

You can easily google when lower saxony was founded.
The brits wanted to destroy the cultural inheritance of germany and the us followed.
And btw the brits were quite successful.
If you think, names doesn't matter, think again. It is first all about terms and names, then everything else follows!
But yes, it was the brits. And the us let them do it. Not to mention other crimes like Rheinwiesenlager.

      @@hanswurst5295 Well maybe that’s a price to pay for WW2. Anyway, that’s old news…
Britain (and the U.S.) would want to glorify Saxons over other groups and elements of German cultural heritages, etc. Of this I have no doubt. It’s no secret why this is, of course. It’s because the British themselves have a LOT of Saxon ancestry, as well as many Americans. So of COURSE we would want to promote Saxon cultural heritage, etc. I don’t think we (the U.S. or Britain) wanted anything communist or even Slavic sounding in Germany, that would have been 100% efforts from the Soviet Union, OBVIOUSLY.
But I don’t think either country (the U.S./UK) wanted to squash other elements of German heritage, the Franks, Thuringians, Hessians, Swabians, Bavarians, Rhinelanders, etc. Just promote the Saxons somewhat.
