Definitely put spacers on the rear axles bro. I'm pretty sure they will hold a lot more power. Custom axles seem rather unnecessary and if you break a stock axle you can get one almost anywhere.
I can't believe you are literally doing exactly what I've wanted to do with my 1.8 Cruze for years... an AWD swap... sadly, mine was lost to an unskilled driver last week who felt my car required some critical remodelling from their bad driving... R.I.P. my beast.
Tip GM and others often buy from generic parts bins and just have their name stamped on. This means that the specific unicorn part you are looking for in a GM vehicle might be a dime a dozen in Fords or Stelantis or Hyundia
Yes Sir I'm with the steel spacer idea although it wouldn't be the first set of axels extended in your own garage this isn't going to have enough power going through it so as to break it
I would 3D print a spacer for the axles. The stress will still be on the diff, axle and hardware. The 3D printed spacer would just be there to take up the space. They also now have metal filaments that can be used in a 3D printer as well if you just had to have an alloy one as opposed to a polymer one.
It probably sounds silly but when u was building the engine I was so excited and couldn’t wait for the new videos to drop. With ur break (understandable) I got a little depressed about weather it was gonna work because of all the modifications. But I love the way it sounds, and I can’t wait for you to start ripping on it. And now all-wheel-drive 👍yeah I wonder if you could lock the rear did, get closer to 50-50 that would be awesome. Anyway, I’m excited again liking your new video, excited like a kid in candy store. 👍 Great job with all research and the computer CAD work or w/e it’s called. I really enjoy that part. It’s too bad. I’m not skilled enough for all that but I love watching it. Sorry this is so long and sounds so goofy but again I really enjoy your videos. Great job Matt!!!
Not silly at all. I feel the same way but life, well, life's. During that time, I definitely put some miles on the car and had very little issues. If you look in my last video, did enough driving for the stock tank to get dirty again lol (I cleaned it during the pump swap years ago). A diff lock would be cool. Something to add to the list. That's awesome! Glad it's exciting when a new video drops. I plan to post at least once a week, if not more. Thanks!
@ absolutely! Thanks for responding. Yes totally agree with everything. And yes I’ve seen every Cruise video and a lot of others. Not sure if I’ve seen every single one of your videos, but I’ve seen a lot of them. Keep up the good work Matt love the modifications and fabrication work. That’s some of my favorite parts
Probably should definitely have those spacers made CNC with some grade 8. bolts and you'll be fine, unless you're putting all your power to your rear which you are not.
Awesome going! Hopefully soon you can get sponsored by bendpack or quick Jax and don't have to work like this anymore. And yes absolutely get spacers made , because you might have to change suspension geometry down the road anyways.
Great point! Not sure at what point a sponsor like that comes onboard, but certainly would be cool. I know they have smaller lifts that would fit in a common garage.
@cmattdabrat just Google quickjack. You can roll it under the car and when you done you put it away. Don't know how sponsorship works , but hit up the company and see what they say. Even a discount would be nice. Either way bro keep the videos coming , and grow the channel. Lots of gm fans out there
So stoked for the first AWD launch, man. You move fast when you've decided on a plan for sure! Also: are you not supposed to use a cutoff wheel on a diegrinder? I've been doing it. Lol OSHA stay mad.
@@Spyder_tsi True! All things I'm keeping in mind. I have the exact measurement out of the car. I'll toss the tires one and do a tape measurement to get it as straight as possible. Also did some research on the torsion bar. I'm sure my design will be sturdy, yet flex some. So I'll do some testing on a bumpy road at low speeds near by to see how things work out. For the most part, it'll just be driving on paved roads / tracks.
Is that part labeled "driveshaft hoop with stitch welds" what you intend to connect the two trailing arms/knuckles together with in place of the original round tube? If so, that is going to cause A LOT of issues. My advice would be to convert it to a control arm setup because modifying a twist beam axle like that is probably more trouble than it's worth.
Hi, have you looked at the details of the all-wheel drive from the Buick Regal aka insignia? it has all-wheel drive and a tank, generally more similar to the cruze.
Thinking about it. Taking it a step at a time. Once I get the awd sorted, I'll work on making a full length exhaust. Just need a section long enough to get around the driveshaft.
How do you feel about having the most unique chevy cruze in the world? I know there is probably one other contender but that was built by a team and they swapped it to a v8...
I wonder if it’d be advisable to completely cut out the spare tire housing and weld a strong piece flat sheet metal instead and put the gas tank there instead🤔. Never was a fan of putting fuel cells inside the car with me 😂
I want to keep it manual. The M32 can hold some power if you're gentle. The autos, there's really no way to get then to hold the power. Once you get to 250hp, it's really pushing it.
Yo love the content Matthew been watching sense the ebay turbo vid lol have you thought about possibly getting or making 2 smaller fuel tanks on each side like alot of honda awd swaps go with if I can afford it, it will prob be what I go with on my eg just a thought instead of having to put it in the trunk and ya I'd do some lil spacers on the axles to ceap it simple ftm you clearly have the skill to measure that out and send it to get made up but yah can't wait to see you get it finished and rippin down the road 👍
Nice!!! Never thought of that idea. I imagine some sort of syphon system involved too. I'll give the spacers a go and see how they hold. Can't wait! I see the light at the end, just working towards getting there.
Tell me about it! Oh well. A replacement trans is $600-$900 without the AWD diff, depending on miles. This trans has the larger bearing upgrade they made to the M32. And my 4th gear syncros are out, so it'll save time and money rebuilding the current one.
Hell yeah bro , this is sick for sure .. and to start , maybe axle spacers , but ultimately i would get custom axles built to hold (1 less worry then).. im eager to see how it looks once ya get it all together and rolling under its own power 💪🏽.. peace and love brotha, keep it rad, stay safe, and build on..l8r famz and keep having fun bro ... cant weight to see how it grips once its awd over the fwd burn out machine 😅.. but i mean , who dont like a badazz smokey burnout 😅.. l8z bro
Thanks! Spacers sound good. Axles after i get it going, if something breaks. lol, Hahah, definitely a front wheel burnout machine. Would be nice to get her to hook so we can get consist trips down the track.
not for nothing but...if your gonna be putting alot of HP into those drave shafts..might just wanna get a upgraded set now because you will break stockies hehe..just sayin..
True! Going to see how things hold with the stock stuff. Would be cool if they held but we'll see how far we can push this project. I'm certainly open to buying custom axles. Worth the money.
And this is the reason why there aren’t that many awd swapped mk2 gti’s in the states. Unless you have dabbing skills and willing to ship parts from Europe it’s not worth it. Just for context I’ve been professionally building Volkswagen since 1989 with countless drag builds under my belt and I’ve only done one awd swap and even then I was helping a friend. In Europe nearly every mk2 GTI and even some rabbits are awd swapped. I would love to do this on my Jetta but I rather start out with an awd Jetta shell to eliminate any fab work. Sadly the awd Jetta was a UK only model. Keep up the good work. Need the motivation to get off my ass and start in my project. 👍🏾
I hear that. The only thing that made me pull the trigger on this is quite a bit of it is bolt on. Still going to be fab work. Shipping things from overseas is expensive, but wasn't too far off from the price of a used M32 here in the states.
Definitely put spacers on the rear axles bro. I'm pretty sure they will hold a lot more power. Custom axles seem rather unnecessary and if you break a stock axle you can get one almost anywhere.
All so true. Thanks for the feedback!
I can't believe you are literally doing exactly what I've wanted to do with my 1.8 Cruze for years... an AWD swap... sadly, mine was lost to an unskilled driver last week who felt my car required some critical remodelling from their bad driving... R.I.P. my beast.
Good morning, I'm here in Brazil following this insane project
That's awesome!
Não sou só eu que estou acompanhando por aqui então kkkk
The best project, keep it up my friend, we all get excited about videos like that
This is a very interesting project and I’m here for it
Steel spacers and some ARP fasteners for those axles
That would definitely hold
This is going to be a one of a kind Cruze! Love it! 👍👍
What a ' Wild' Cruze build !
Thanks!
Tip
GM and others often buy from generic parts bins and just have their name stamped on.
This means that the specific unicorn part you are looking for in a GM vehicle might be a dime a dozen in Fords or Stelantis or Hyundia
The rubber drive shaft weboes would probably work as spacers for the axles
I do hope you look in to a clutch slipper valve. I think I've told you before. Thing saves transmission and axles from breaking
One of the items on my list of things to do. Great thinking!
@cmattdabrat rooting for you bro!
Spacers for sure
Yes Sir I'm with the steel spacer idea although it wouldn't be the first set of axels extended in your own garage this isn't going to have enough power going through it so as to break it
Thanks for the vote!
Make your own spacers bro. You’ve gotten this far. Steel spacers
We like the longer videos 🎉
Wide body cruize is gonna be crazy 😂
That would be something.
@ lol fr, but I am interested in seeing the fitment and wheel setup. Are you gonna stagger or go for a square wheel setup?
You might be able to find a shorter version of your rear shocks and make a ) bracket to clear the axle stuff...
Keep up the good work!
Not a bad idea. I may just weld some generic shock brackets on moving them out the way enough.
Omg so bad ass. Perfect daily sleeper.
Thanks!
The power to weight ratio is drastically higher than what that was built for, I would go with a new one custom built to take the power.
At the end of upgrade this car going to be great ❤❤
I would 3D print a spacer for the axles. The stress will still be on the diff, axle and hardware. The 3D printed spacer would just be there to take up the space. They also now have metal filaments that can be used in a 3D printer as well if you just had to have an alloy one as opposed to a polymer one.
Definitely a consideration. Thanks for the feedback!
Yeye, so stoked more progress
Yes!
Make spacers for the axles. Great video thank you!"
Thanks! Sounds like a plan.
Steel axle spacers so that it hopefully keeps breakage to a minimum. There is always GForce axles, yes probably expensive though
True! Custom axels would be nice, but I'll have to save for those. Could be around $3k.
@ yea, always sucks when you want the best, but you can’t afford it. Hell I can barely afford to eat right now, buddy so I can fill you.
this is awesome n ik its alot of work but itll be worth it once ya get it! cant wait!!!
Thanks and I agree! I'm enjoying all the work. To me, patience and finding time is the harder part. ;)
I want to build a sonic awd but it's very difficult to find parts here
Give eBay a try.

Spacers and steel
Thanks!
just use send cut send with a spacer design.
So stoked for the first AWD launch, man. You move fast when you've decided on a plan for sure! Also: are you not supposed to use a cutoff wheel on a diegrinder? I've been doing it. Lol OSHA stay mad.
I'd be happy with just one branch of that money tree.
You can do it! If you can solve problems for people. You can make money.
Don't forget the rear diff is offset now to so gonna have different length axles
Also when making the torsion cross brace be sure to keep the alignment in mind because not really much for adjustment in the rear toe
@@Spyder_tsi True! All things I'm keeping in mind. I have the exact measurement out of the car. I'll toss the tires one and do a tape measurement to get it as straight as possible. I may just take the time to center it. Got a digital level in so I'll be sure to get the angles the same as how the transfer case mounts.

You know it's getting serious when you see the micrometer 🤙
lol, right!?
Hi, have you looked at the details of the all-wheel drive from the Buick Regal aka insignia? it has all-wheel drive and a tank, generally more similar to the cruze.
I'll have to look into that and see what chassis it is. Thanks!
Is that a pic of the PFI speed Bully at approx 10:12 ?
LOL, it is! I like keeping up with Brent and the crew.
@cmattdabrat hah.. they are truly awesome knowledgeable guys, love their channel (also) 😁👍🏻
Good stuff.
Thanks!
Amazon Affiliate link still don't work. The one in the description. I replied and linked it last video but maybe YT blocks it? IDK
Hi brother from India
Hello from Houston, TX
Just the spacers
Thanks!
Will we get a cruze talk write up for the process? That would be sick
For the AWD setup? I can do that.
Please do @@cmattdabrat
Why don't you look into Yousing a oval shaped exhaust pipe it might help you do a full length exhaust 🤔
Thinking about it. Taking it a step at a time. Once I get the awd sorted, I'll work on making a full length exhaust. Just need a section long enough to get around the driveshaft.
Damn bro, that tranny is 300$ and shipping is $950??? Dat UA-cam life must be great!
Sweet more stuff that can break lol
lol, right!?
How do you feel about having the most unique chevy cruze in the world?
I know there is probably one other contender but that was built by a team and they swapped it to a v8...
Saw that one. Burnout car. Quite nuts. i'll take craziest build using factory components.
Let’s goooooo!😊
Very cool project Matt...Why not the Ecotec platform..right?..🤔
3:40.. get some glasses on..seriously 😎
Why not? Thanks! You're right about that. Go a shard stuck in my eye. Nothing serious, but going to do that moving forward.
Spacers
Thanks!
I wonder if it’d be advisable to completely cut out the spare tire housing and weld a strong piece flat sheet metal instead and put the gas tank there instead🤔. Never was a fan of putting fuel cells inside the car with me 😂
Me either. i could always do that once i get things sorted and where they need to be.
Why do you need the AWD transaxle from the European Opel Mokka? What is different from the North American Chevy Trax/Buick Encore?
I want to keep it manual. The M32 can hold some power if you're gentle. The autos, there's really no way to get then to hold the power. Once you get to 250hp, it's really pushing it.
