Just my opinion when I heard over the radio can’t get it out of my head 50 years ago I new they were going to become 1 of the greatest bands in music history I was right 🎸🎻
Wow, I'm in England and have heard of that venue because another band recorded an epic track there in 1976. Fantastic hall ambience on that recording strangely, especially in the quiet sections.
This also takes me back when I was in high school, cruising around in my buddy's Trans Am, hearing ELO for the first time... ; not to mention all the other great songs from the seventies!!
Saw them in concert in 1979. What a show! Even from the nosebleed section! Worth the time and the money. Wish I could go again. Thank you Jeff Lynne and ELO for the wonderful memory.
So beautifully done for this live performance! The dreamy keyboard sound and the strings make it so magical, and Jeff in his iconic hair and glasses! I love ELO! 💜 Thank you, Midnight Special!
majik....is created, through a Fella named, Buckethead...check him out, if you haven't...! if ya have.....?🤘! and please..? dont forget to mention, our took wearin...hoser brothers, from Up North... RUSH! 🤘Rock On🤘
They were unique even among the 1970s. Most other rock bands cheated using purely Mellotron for the orchestral strings. Or would play out the symphonic roffs wth electric guitars. Btw, why did you stop with the Thomas & Friemds Mad Bomber fanon?
The Midnight Special, really showcased a lot of amazing groups and ELO,was most definitely one of them. It takes me down memory lane. This was part of my teenage years Ty,Midnight Special for the good times and memories.
No matter what else we had going on on a Saturday we ALWAYS made sure we were parked in front of the television when Midnight Special aired. ELO was the best concert, hands down, ever saw. Best lights, best effects.
1976 - Summer vacations - Ocean City, Maryland - This song was on the air in every pool, bar, magazine, hall or restaurant - Sweet memories of my youth...
I just wish they'd included the full closing harmonic chorus of "La-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la ----" repeated til end. I always wait for that in my mind because it is pure heaven.
I have probably had Face the Music at least 15 different times since my brother first brought it home in 1984. I've had it in record, on cassette and CD. This is easily my favorite all time album
This song, since the first time i listened to it, produced a Strange kind of Magic : tearing me apart, shaking me down to the ground, blowing my mind, and finally healing my heart and soul. Thank you very much guys ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
it’s a shame Jeff Lynne couldn’t find more use for Bev Bevan‘s drumming abilities in the band, however, it’s such a treat to see and hear Bev performing with his incredible bass voice in a live capacity. for more of Bev’s amazing vocals, check out these songs by The Move: Don’t Mess Me Up Zing! Went the Strings of My Heart Ben Crawley Steel Company
@@daisywrabbit I have my "Bev Bevan The Move" signed drum head proudly displayed in my studio. I was really disappointed Bev wasn't at the Rock and Roll HOF induction ceremony and I too am bummed he's not still playing drums with Jeff.
Yes, Bev was the DEEP voice in ELO! If you listen to songs like Mr. Blue Sky, Sweet Talkin' Woman, and many others, you'll hear a low baritone voice in the background. That's him! And if you want to hear him sing lead, check out the songs Ben Crawley Steel Company, and Zing Went The Strings Of My Heart, both by The Move.
This is one of my very favorite songs from the 70s. Kind of mellow & mystifying . It reminds me of my grandchildren ( 4 girls & 1 boy). 1 of the girls in particular, Breanna ( my Goojah) this song reminds me the most. She has a strange magic over her grandpa ( Me). She's had this strange magic over her grandpa, since she was born. All my babies have a strange magic over their grandpa, but my Goojah, a little more than the others. She's about 12 yrs. old right now, (roughly) The sad thing is, their grandma & I aren't together anymore. You see, they're not my biological grandchildren, but I have always treated them, as if they were. I miss them so much, it hurts me dearly , especially my Goojah. I hope to be able to see them again someday. If God is willing.
Wow, some actually added keyboard bits -- love love these fully LIVE performances! TMS - the Music Wikipedia for Life! - EDIT: May 2, 2024 ELO keyboardist Richard Tandy dies at age of 76. - Though Jeff Lynne always got most of the credit for ELO, there would be none of this treasure trove without Tandy's magical keyboards!
In their album version, there are no drums for the first almost minute and a half ( there are a few symbols) of the song. Here live, they went with no drumming for the entire song.
Just wish they would have included Natalie Cole's intro from June 25, 1976, for this very same video, "And I love them, please welcome the Electric Light Orchestra" 😎
I'm not from that era but an uncle and my father taught me many things from the mid-70s. There is a movie that represents that time, it is called The Virgin Suicides, many classics sound like it.
This song and Todd Rundgren's "Hello it's Me" always leaves me with the most confused emotions. It's weird because I get a dark almost doomed feeling, yet also a happy euphoric feeling. WHAT IS UP WITH THAT?!!!
ELO brings back so many early childhood memories of the late 70s. Can’t believe I can remember the 70s…
16 in 1976, first job, first paycheck, first car, I bought ELO's record, Jeff's an amazing song writer, his songs were constantly on the radio back then, it was a year of firsts😉
Hey John what car did you get my brother had a Buick Riviera and my first car was a 73 ltd
I hear ya I was 20. Where the hell did the time go. At least we still got the music

Outstanding acoustics and performance. Midnight Special is the best source of live performance from the best music era, likely to never equaled.
Each week when it came on, it was an _event_ .
Never forget it.. never
My Lord, how wonderful was this band. ELO was one of the best rock groups ever.
FLAWLESS
Such an underrated band with an underrated singer and underrated arrangements. This band was sonic gold
Just my opinion when I heard over the radio can’t get it out of my head 50 years ago I new they were going to become 1 of the greatest bands in music history I was right 🎸🎻
I saw ELO in March 1976 at Cobo Arena in Detroit. What a show, I was a lucky guy in 1976. So many great shows.
Wow, I'm in England and have heard of that venue because another band recorded an epic track there in 1976. Fantastic hall ambience on that recording strangely, especially in the quiet sections.
Who else did you see there?
Beautiful haunting melody and harmony.
One of Jeff Lynne's finest.
This song brings back so many Wonderful memories... here's to the 70s 🥂
Happy Saturday... thank you for sharing! 💖
@That 70's Girl Agreed! Happy Saturday to you! 🤗⚘️

Such an original sound for a 70s "rock" band. 3 vocalists, 3 strings, keys, guitar, bass and drums. Sublime. ❤
Saw them in concert in 1979. What a show! Even from the nosebleed section! Worth the time and the money. Wish I could go again. Thank you Jeff Lynne and ELO for the wonderful memory.
Still not as good as Lyon Russell in concert !!! In his white top hat ...1973 or Joe Walsh and the James Gang Armoury Building concert 1973
So many contributions to great music, and this live version does not disappoint. Wonderful!!
Thank you for the memories Midnight Special!! ELO is at the top of my favorites list!

when I was a kid and heard certain songs, I thought they were the Beatles.
Jeff Lynn produced the Beatles at one time. He is a phenomenal musician, producer.
Nice to see Bev putting down the drumsticks to go on background vocals and lead tambourine duties.
it is nice to see, but it’s also a sad harbinger of what’s to come. Jeff Lynne not utilizing Bev as a drummer.
⚡️🥁♥️
@daisywrabbit Well Bev certainly played on many more ELO songs after this.
Had to chuckle with recognition at him blocking his one ear to hear his own vocal pitch, away from his home base behind the kit.
E.L.O. was truly one of a kind!❤
The Midnight Special, really showcased a lot of amazing groups and ELO,was most definitely one of them. It takes me down memory lane. This was part of my teenage years Ty,Midnight Special for the good times and memories.

As has often been said......"we all know it goes down on the Midnight Special".....ELO is no exception.....this was mellow gold right here.
Now you know why drummers are vital to a band.
E l o had that very unique sound as a band ! What a awesome time to be a band in the 70’s ! Space ace Ron ⚡️⚡️⚡️
ELO is one of the greatest rock and roll bands. John Lennon called it “the son of the Beatles.”
They were and are by far better musicians than the Beatles.

Such a talented singer/songwriter and musician…😄
I love the way Jeff Lynne almost talks this song………beautiful voice……………butter melting………..
Please upload all of elos performances! We need all of them available immediately
I agree, including the 1977 appearance with that laser show behind it.
Oh yes please

The "Electric Beatles". The soundtrack of my young years in Colorado Springs. Good times.
I will finally see the Magic in September. RIP to Mr. Tandy and Peace to his family and friends.

Magnificent. Thank you The Midnight Special.❤
The string section (and whole band with Jeff, obviously) here live is superb -thanks for posting!
The great Jeff Lynne. Awesome dude, 100%.
love those harmonies
the fucking tone of those instruments, it cannot be replicated man you just had to be there
They are just great
Thank you for unearthing another great ELO find. Superb! ❤
Oh my, Yet another Wurlitzer 200A. Supertramp and Ray Charles never leave home without them.
Great comment!
it was too heavy too carry so they all got yamaha cs 70 ms
I prefer Wurlitizer. Femder Rhodes electric pianos sound a bit too corny.
