Parsons' setting, which is thought to date from the 1550s, uses the shorter version of the text, without the additions formalised at the Council of Trent, and is sung here a major third higher than the original. Extraordinary comprehension, pacing, expression, achingly fine tone and balance. This is by far the best interpretation I've heard. Superb!

I heard this piece performed before Christmas 2016 by the choir at King's College Chapel here in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It was similarly transcendingly beautiful. God bless you.

Simon Carpenter I just heard this piece performed in December 2016 in my city. If you like, I can reply and include a link for you, as it was recorded a week later and posted on UA-cam

Hello again I think I was very unfair to the Cambridge Singers in my last comment they are a lovely choir and John Rutter is one of the greatest musicians around I was only trying to say that your recording is even better than theirs emphasis on "even" I am also aware that some of your subscribers may take offence at me sharing what I believe but I assure you I do love traditional church music!

I have to say that I am very Protestant by faith indeed evangelical and fundamentalist (!? sorry hope that doesn't cause offence) but this is superlative music, acoustic and certainly performers sorry Cambridge Singers eat your hearts out (I first heard this piece on one of their recordings) Merci beaucoup yet again!

This channel is open to all music-lovers, irrespective of religious inclination. Some of the people involved in it are atheists.

I do so hope I didn't cause any offence to anyone. But it was a MEDIEVAL carol that had the refrain "I love my Lord Jesus above anything" ( I think it was in the old "Oxford Book of Carols"). That is my aim in life! But just remember I love this channel and the music on it thank you (there he goes saying thank you again...)
