Looks nice, but the 2nd loop won’t hold much load. Figure 8 or bowline if your life depends on it.

Yes 2nd loop is not a great idea here, but don't rely on a bowline for your life, the bowline is so good as it ties fast and also because it comes undone easily.

@@catsupchutney Rarely. The right knot for the vast majority of situations is one you can reliably tie correctly, that will hold what it needs to hold and that you Can untie without unreasonable struggle. This particular knot probably won't lock up all that tight because there's so much excess wraparound going on. But that's part of why I don't think it's as reliable as a simpler knot could be for the purpose, nor is it anywhere near as time efficient. Lots of people have suggested a bowline for this purpose, and with good reason. I've never seen this knot before, but bowlines really are a part of every day life for people that work at all regularly with ropes or lines, in rigging or securing, whatever.

Thanks for knothing. An organised tangle does not constitute a Knot. This is a basket case for a hangmans knot . Meaning it is the worst attempt at showing the world how to do that, without knowing or learning how, before attempting to be clever on film. Ideal for tying my GF up for some fun because if I die of exertion, she will be able to wriggle free in a New York Minute. I advise everyone to NOT use this for any useful purpose! A bolun or BOWLINE knot will do more than satisfactory. Where concerned about the strain on rope through the eye of a hook , take the first loop through the hook and feed it through the loop wrap it through the hook again and finish the bowline with your bight through the loop.

It's called a Scaffold Knot, Ashley #1120, technically a hitch.
It's a strong knot, with no sharp bends under stress, and the free end leads neatly back along the standing part of the line, where it can be neatly seized for greater security.
I have one of these knots instead of a traditional eye splice on the main halyard of my sailing yacht, the reason being that it's Spectra for which an eye splice calls for a very long bury that won't pass the masthead sheave. So, ironically, this high tech line has to be given a traditional treatment. It's held for seven years so far, so I think it's proven to be a suitable knot for the purpose.

Bowline can invert, so there's the water bowline, which is a bit less prone to slipping. There are no ideal knots, but generally yes, you use the simplest one for the purpose so that a crew member will be familiar with it if they need to undo it quickly. I SUCK at knots. Always have. This was so simple to follow that I can easily remember it for future reference.. Subscribed so I can find more easy ones.
Shit. Sorry I had to unsubscribe. I ended up with 50 knot channels clogging up my feed and the only way I know how to prevent this is to not subscribe and the start "don't show this channel" on all the ones that pop up. I love YT but hate that part of the algorithm.

Music is too loud and intrusive. Please consider either refraining from 'musac' or tone it down. Secondly, if one is to use a fishing hook/lure knot, as this is, why not just tie a Palomar. Safe, secure, zippy fast (less than five seconds if you know what you're doing).

  • @jfrunn

Safe 🤷🏾‍♀️ depends on its use I suppose, it's basically a double looped noose or hangman's knot.

For knots, interesting to see how it's done- too "complicated" to do in reality. You need fast knots in the field.

I’m just gonna say a couple things. Some people tie knots that look really awesome but you know what I just tie like a tennis shoe the first time and the second time and it’s never come loose on my winch.
