It is a traditional folk song that is often performed at weddings and other celebrations in Bulgaria.
When you think of the song in the context of how society was in older days ( especially rural areas )
~ Where it was more common for an older man to buy the dowery for a young teen girl ; and it was accepted as normal .
Then the context of the song isn't so much the older man was a ' pervert ' , respectfully
( which is where my mind went to too when I first read the lyrics ) , but a view based on our modern moral standards .
The only instrumentation I've heard on other versions of this song is one of those round hand drums .
