- In this video, we discuss how I do wish to continue learning, growing, and changing my opinions/thoughts on knives/steel. However- I do not wish to alter the authenticity of the channel, the truth I represent, my delivery, or the “family oriented” feeling I share personally with my viewers. Thanks so much for listening. From my perspective the Marine X channel is very calculated, posed, and staged. Your channel feels like I just jumped in your truck to go fishing and we are talking schtick while heading out. From my perspective that is a good thing. I recently picked up a Vic Farmer X cuz I was looking for a good awl on a folder. Then you show this GEC with the monster awl. I am humbled. Yours is bigger than mine but don't tell my Mom. I know, she already knows.
This seriously made my day. I just want my family to feel at home with me on the channel.
You can feel shills and grifters. Their channel have that yuck feels! Organic is best and clearly making money is ok but when that's the sole purpose is to just shill what your "partners" & "sponsor" overlords demand for the shekels monthly then it's a problem. If the "service" is free then we're the product. 🤙🏼

The channel is yours. You do with it as you wish. Your videos are raw, by definition, and by choice. I've never watched you expecting an EDC channel like others. I watch you as someone enjoying seeing someone grow, someone going through a journey. I see this channel as a journal, a blog, and not anything more than what you bring to the table Keep doin what you want with the channel, it's YOUR channel, YOUR journey. I've read some of the comments made, and most are saying the same as I feel. Your channel, the way that it is, is why I love watching them. I've learned so much watching you and that's what I feel most people want as I do. I don't need all the flash and beautiful back drops and all that, I just come here to learn. Also the fact that you don't have to put so much time and effort in editing your videos allows you to put out more videos, which is great for us. We love you, we trust you and we learn from you. I just found your channel the other day honestly and please don’t change anything. I own two steels Buck 420HC and ESEE 1095 and my knives get used I don’t abuse but use them hard and they’ve never failed me. That said watching your videos I’m leaning so much I never knew about steels. I’m basically I want a sharpened piece of steel that cuts and can be maintained in the field and I’m happy. But stay true to you that’s why I subbed and of course being a fellow Granite Stater was a plus.

I like Marine X, he has put his time in developing what he wants with his goals in mind. It is natural to think everyone else has the same goals. His video that mentioned your channel is probably my favorite video he has created. He mentioned several channels that I watch on occasion, like yours, but many that I have never heard of. I have too many that I am subscribed to and will be cutting back. I subbed you today, because I love your description of goals. Time will tell if we stay aligned on interest, thoughts and mindset. The fact that your videos are so honest and unedited are what first drew me to your channel. Then I realized that the things you like to carry and your reasons for carrying them are quite similar to my own. It's not that I feel I need to listen to an echo chamber, it's the fact that our similar mindsets make me value your opinion very much. Refreshingly honest, real…that’s what your channel seems to be…and exactly what most people want to see, if they’re honest with themselves.
I’ve just found your channel. One suggestion to add to what you are doing, collaborative video with some of those other reviewers that you respect where you talk about different parameters of knives or uses of different knives. The collaboration videos in my other areas of interest (photography, fly fishing, etc.) have proven to be some of their best content. “As iron sharpens iron”, to quote the good book, everyone seems to grow stronger together.

I follow you because you give it to us "raw" - to me, you are real - therefore trustworthy and worth spending my time absorbing your content. BTW- the tool (1:30 mark) that you showed on that pocketknife is called an "awe" (back in the day it was most commonly used for punching holes in leather [leatherwork]) and was commonly included in most pocket knives from was early as I can remember.

It gets old listening to the bigger knife reviewer's sometimes when you feel like they're just pushing product on you , I still like their content but take it with a grain of salt. I don't watch you to find the next best thing , I watch for your honest opinions and thoughts on knives. Plus you're a fellow New Hampshirite which is pretty cool.

There are entire countries that only allow slip joints for EDC, so Spyderco is serving the market. As for the ceramic Mule knife, that's just for those who wanna test it out, it's not a mass produced product. Spyderco states up front they break easily and are not covered under their normal warranty.

I just found your channel, and enjoy channels like yours that feel authentic from people that actually have used and are gonna use the gear. Channels like the best darn guy, for me are mostly unwatchable. Thanks for doing this video, because it helped me realize I can keep doing my channel my way and not invest $$$ in my filming and editing setup since it is just a fun little hobby for me to share stuff I have and use.
Just wanted to add, that a flashier setup doesn’t mean a video is better or worse, it’s the person in front of the camera and the content that at least for me determines whether a video is great and useful.

Erica, your channel was recommended to me by the almighty algorithm after I followed a much larger, flashier knife channel for the better part of last year. I got tired of the constant push for more flourish, more showy, frankly more ridiculous looking, with barely a mention of function. Yours is one of the very few channels I still watch the moment I see a new vid drop, not only because I love your simple, honest approach, but also because your philosophy rings true with me. Remember when you talked about timid heat treats and companies aiming below what pushing to a high hrc can do, without loss of toughness? That toughness doesn't really fall off? You knew that from your own direct experience with testing. That was leading edge stuff, like GBall Vision showing so many knife fails with a slight spine whack. Soon there after Jared said it too (he is very tuned in to important shifts and the voice of truth). He has probably said it, at least somewhat, before, but I felt like you were leading. Leading a slow but steady industry shift to higher hrcs. Yeah! That is what a certain kind of "voice" has the power to do.

@@ericasedc Yes, he is a YT knife guy, but... he is very faithful to the truth when he hears it. As soon as GBall did his knife whacks on his tiny channel, Jared was totally on it. And still is. Because of the way that you are, every bit of it, you have a voice that is listened to. No more apologizing. What ever comes, comes. You are made for it, you can handle it, you are the way that you are for a purpose. Your purpose. And people hear it in your voice, the bit of apologizing sure, but mostly the not apologizing one bit. That's the important part, because most people are afraid to be themselves out loud.

Your subs really relate to you and that illustrates to me what a channel should be. Your followers have “Use your shit” burned into our brains. lol. Keep doing what you do and how you’re doing it.

I like and respect what Erica does on youtube. she has integrity. I also like what David C Anderson does over at KnifeCenter. He doesnt use alot of the knives that they sell, but he has a wealth and depth of knowledge. So I dont really get too hung up on weather a knife youtuber uses the knives they "review" but it really comes down to who you trust to do that. Metal Complex is someone I dont really take too seriously anymore, not that he thinks we should, DCA REALLY knows what hes talking about so I take what he says as reliable.

I like the 940 design but the S30V doesn't seem to be a good fit for it. Same with the Griptillian. A K390 940 would be a good option. I'm looking forward to seeing your Dart. I don't own a knife in that category.

I like your reviews, they are honest. Sometimes, I and likely others probably feel like an older brother. This means that when you say some things about older steels (01, s30v, 154cm) I want to go. ..Listen here! They were the shit in.....oh yeah I am 40 now 😅😅. I have BG42 Sebenzas and A1 Busses. I have magnacut and think its another s30v.....and I want Cru wear and 15v and Vanadis.

Erica id like to see you review one of the Spyderco/ Murray Carter collab kitchen knives with Super Blue steel. they have extremely slicey geometry and its Spyderco so you can pretty much trust that they are heat treated for performance

Not a bad idea to update your subscribers on your reasons for the channel. Visitors may think you are monetized and compare your efforts to other channels which are. So, nothing wrong with having a mission statement! It obviously includes giving honest opinions about things you’ve actually used. It also includes urging folks to use their stuff and to learn how to sharpen that stuff when it gets dull. Oh, and the goal of collecting phone numbers from moms. Keep it real, be yourself and most of us will hang out with you. Proud to be a family member!

So Im someone who has started doing UA-cam and doing knife reviews as part of it and yes I would love to get paid or get free stuff but I dont do it for that I do it for my self I make videos of stuff I enjoy and that may lead me to never getting anything out of UA-cam but thats okay. I do love listening to your channel nothing you are doing is wrong I love your channel and how you handle your self beaing real about stuff you like.
