Max these days is rock solid and with additions for TyFlow and Phoenix, it is one of the best all round tools on the market.
To end the 3d software war, ask this: If all the 3d softwares were 1.000k a year, including Blender, which one would you be using?
Houdini, blender, unreal
@@nosirve9458unreal for rendering and animation? But how would you use the other two?
Cinema4d
Maya or Modo ( Maya is so stable)
what fits my needs, the team , and the whole production line... from simulations to modelling from comp. to cutting...
p.s. a free tool is okay,...as a million $ tool also..
NASA vs. Rodkosmos space tool development can show this perfect...
Russia used a simple lead pencil or a simple multi Wrech 5 $ tool ,..
a air pressure spacewalk suite that works instant without waiting hours in a preassure chamber to repair ot fix problems on the space station...
...& $urprise that all functions well for decades and it would work even today and cost nothing...
Being in Montreal and in the industry the reason is they built a ton of custom tools on top of old versions of the software. So why update if you're customizing it to your production
even if ubisoft gameas has gotten worse in recent times, the visual of their assets and overall environment looks great.
That's because the artists always trying to do they best while the managers and publishers and what not, trying to reduce costs and maximize profit. I feel always bad for all the assets that went basically into trash/waste of time because a game flops by dumb decisions.
But not characters models and facial animations
@@Igoreshkin true, their character models haven't improved since ps3 Assassin's Creed Black Flag era.
Their combat animations have gotten less fluid as well. Compare Assassin's Creed 3 to the modern ones, and it becomes really apparent.
I started using max back in 2006, it was a perpetual student version, so couldn't use it for commercial stuff. I fiddled around a bit with the educational versions over the next 10 years, but bounced around model and maya, but i've effectively jumped to blender now entirely. Instead of paying £250 a year, i'm spending money on blender addons :P, sure it's more expensive in the short term, but most of them are one-time payments.
Ubisoft has done quite a few presentation talking about how their artists use Blender. Ubisoft also sponsored the Blender foundation since all the way back in 2019 . Ubisoft also builds plugins for Blender. This video makes it sound like they only use 3ds Max. I would think they use a bunch of different software if not "all the softwares"
Nice didn’t know
Max is a full arsenal of tools / functions and the tools / GUI can be so simple modified, enhanced..
Blender is a tiny Swiss knife for beginner to ambitions no doupt .
But Max is big maximal full force of full fleadged tools growed in a decade with and from production ppl. ..
@@sebbosebbo9794Max is also full of bugs and its professional use depends entirely on plugins. Good for modelling, but Blender and Houdini will be the standard in 5 years, even Maya is getting obsolete...
Thank you, you really increase my understanding of things And your style is very beautiful I hope you make a video explaining whether the Unreal Agent program is good for work vfx
One of the best channels by far 💎
Maybe 3DS is different now but I started out using it back in the 90's and at first I loved it. But the problem was that if you wanted to do anything EXTRA... like (lens flares / smoke / fire / fog / i.K. animation, etc...) all of those cost an extra $100 - $600 EACH!!!! All you could do with the base program was model & animate, so I was REALLY looking for something better that came with more bells & whistles out of the box. My solution to that was "Lightwave 3D" which was much better and had everything included that 3DS was charging HUNDREDS OR THOUSANDS for.
Unfortunately LW started becoming QUICKLY outdated and absolutely got ROUTED by "Blender". When Blender first came out, nobody paid it any attention... it was just a cool lil 3D program for kids & beginners... or so it seemed. That thing kept growing & growing until it morphed into a 10-HEADED SUPER-HYDRA... and it's FREE!!! WTF?!?!? 😱😱😱... Being the beast that it is also causes an issue with it.... IT'S VERY DIFFICULT TO KEEP UP WITH!! 😮💨 Blender is the CANE CORSO OF 3D PROGRAMS!!! If you get away from it for a few months to work on other projects, by the time you get back to it... it has already GROWN & MORPHED INTO A NEW BEAST with 50 new plugins!! 😵 So if you're using it CONSTANTLY... THAT'S GREAT!! 😁👍 .. But if you're only using it sporadically, you can get a little overwhelmed. 😩
But personally... I'm a Blender guy now and will never go back to 3DS or LW, nor do I feel the need to waste THOUSANDS on C4D, but I (((MIGHT))) look into Houdini; which means I'd need to learn PYTHON. 😭😭😭.... Who's got time for that??? LOL... I might see what it can do tho, the effects it can generate are INSANE.... But hell, the way Blender is growing, it may overtake & nullify Houdini in another few years like it did 3DS & LW. Then I won't need Houdini regardless. I've learned not to underestimate the geniuses that are empowering Blender, so I literally don't make big 3D purchases anymore till I see where Blender is at in it's capabilities FIRST!! ✌😎
Python isn't that bad! And it will help you everywhere you go. Besides I don't think you need python for Houdini, although of course it helps
@@josephbrandenburg4373 - Ok that takes a bit of the edge off lol. I actually started picking up on AS3 fairly well (if you remember that from the FLASH days) lol.. what made it easier though was that there were free "CODE SNIPPETS" for it allll over the internet. You could find code to add video, animated gifs, audio files... everything!! But just when I started feeling really confident with it and started getting some REALLY fancy Flash content online... 💥POOF💥- They killed it.. GONE & BANNED!! All that time learning it - WASTED!! 😮💨 Entire sites had to be rebuilt for (HTML5). Fortunately it wasn't a TOTAL waste, because my experience with AS3 made HTML5 a lot easier.
I never got to where I could just WRITE code from scratch, but I was really good at MODIFYING code to make scraps of code work together with my sites. So now it's time for Python! 🫣 lol.. Yeah, I know I don't ((NEED)) it to use Houdini, but I do to make it do all the HIGH-END FUNKY STUFF that it's known for. So it seems that I can generate smoke & realistically blow it around in Houdini. I can also make a human head appear to talk. But Python seems to come into play if you want that smoke to swirl into the shape of a human head, and the smoky head begin to talk.... that sort of thing... you know - your basic "Brain-frying-CGI work" 🤯 lol... Just as an example >>
I saw a demo online where a Houdini MASTER was trying to make a building explode with localized damage as if it had been rigged to blow. He was all cool & calm at first.... but the explosion only knocked a few bricks out lol.. Whole audience just sitting there - a few coughs.. lol. He messed around with the sliders a bit more... a few more bricks flew out and it sort of leaned over. (crickets...) The guy got pissed... and went into the CODE and started typing code like a MADMAN... MUMBLING TO HIMSELF & ALL!! LOLOL.. It was CRAZY to watch!! 🤣 He TOTALLY LOST IT and left the people in the DUST that were trying to follow along with him. When he finished and pressed "play"... that 3D building got DEMOLISHED LIKE GODZILLA BLEW A HOLE IN IT!!!!! 😂🤣🤣🤣... He said during his demo before he went all SCORCHED EARTH that he'd been using Houdini for 30yrs, so it apparently takes AT LEAST 20 to get to that level lol.. Sooo many people won't even LIVE that long to get there. Dark... but true! 💀(Hey, I finally understand Houdini & Python!) lol
3DS max was used extensively on the Dreamcast development too.
hello sir, I want to ask how visual effects studios and game studios create their own software such as MPC VFX, Industrial Light and Magic, Naughty Dog, Insomniac Studio and others; can they make proprietary software?
If you understand what "bucket list" means, "summer bucket list" becomes an extremely dark phrase
Blender is a tiny Swiss knife & its a fine tool no doupt.. ... ..... .....
...but Max is on another Level in terms of history production proven tools & workflows.. !
The program is the definition and set the standards,... the ground baseline of polygon modelling ,...!!
with a massiv amount of features & tools ...
Having used both... I really don't see what you're saying, it's like the same tools 90 percent of the time, unless you're talking about certain studios custom tools they developed, which does make max better, but blender has just as much customizability
@@ttmayor the program paradigma in itself in terms of handling non destructive vs destr. modeling is absolute different .
the shear amount of tools alone is different ... Blender is simpler no doupt but its less capable specially in past Versions..
With knowleadge of blender only,.. you cant handle Max, specially the non destructive part,... you will not even select, change, modifier proper what you want ...its a complett different workflow...
I say not its always better but Max model engine is builded with a complett different model paradigma in mind..
Its always a game changer when people learn why Max need often a different workflow and you have to learn it as it is intended not like blender devs. ( Ton R.) choose his way of handling polygon modelling..
So Max to blender is not that hard ...Blender to Max is complett another story...
p.s. the first thinks that beginner blender ppl. user find amazing too and thats not even touch the modelling functions of is f.e.the simple scripting systems, the simple well thought out GUi setup handling & key binding changing etc etc..
@@sebbosebbo9794 it's kind of hard to make out what you're saying, but I really don't think it's as different as you're making it out to be at all. It's still just poly modeling in both programs, and both blender and Max use the same modifier stack system and share the same capabilities for 90 percent of scenarios you'd come across. Both are capable of being non destructive, it kinda just sounds like you don't know a lot about blenders modifiers? They really aren't that different
@@ttmayor bro replying to bots lmao
@@zedeon6299bots would have better spelling, it's just a guy who probably doesn't speak English as his first language. Also who would make a bot for this
Honestly if I could buy a copy of 3ds Max or Maya instead of renting I would probably use one of those.
Blender has basically no solid and nurbs modeling.
The nurbs tools are laughably outdated... But what do you mean it has no solid modeling? Do you mean CAD?
@@proceduralcoffeecringe
you again
Neither does 3dsmax
I just wonder how many licenses of max do they have?
I think they do contracts instead of buy the license, but yeah am also wondering about that 🤣🤣
@@aasimahmed941 You cant buy them. You rent them at about $4k per license per year
they probably use a floating license, which is a single license that can be used on multiple machines, naturally it's one of the most expensive options.
