    I'm assuming by the texture that you're using cold press paper. I use hot press because my style has minute details, and I don't have any issue with cauliflower, even wet on damp. My travel journal, however, is cold press, so this is wonderful information for me to know while out and about! Thanks for sharing.

    • @JoeCartwright
      @JoeCartwright  4 місяці тому

      Yes, the smoother the paper, the easier to create cauliflowers. Glad you enjoyed the video.

    Thank you, this is helpful. It is nuanced to be less dry, but not dry. And to avoid them when unwanted, paint fast? Is that the best way? Careful rewetting of the paper may help?

    May I request a lesson on choosing watercolour brushes. Many have recommended the expensive types Silver Black Velvet, Princeton Neptune, AquaElite and VelvetSoft, Escoda range, Betty Hayways is my favourite recommended by Natasha Newton during her swatching videos. But. I have never really seen what a Professional Watercolour artist like yourself. Teach us what to you recommend. I just found you via your Facebook video promotion for Watercolour Beginners 🎉

    Question: the method you show to fix the water spray will darken the original wash, yes? So, is there a way to fix without darkening the wash? Also, You didn't mention that this waterdrop spray technique is actually a method used by many for creating texture. An oops is an oops, but sometime it's intentional, so I would encourage folks to step back, turn away and take a minute before looking at the painting again to make sure you actually need or want to get rid of these drops. Like Bob always said, mistakes can be a happy accident.

    • @JoeCartwright
      @JoeCartwright  4 місяці тому

      The spray should not darken the original wash, unless you add more paint to it. Nothing wrong with cauliflowers if that is what you are after, of if the accidental effect is something that makes your painting better. They are only a problem if they are unwanted. :-)
