Draco is an experimental aircraft y'all. That's why it made the list. I can tell who's watching the video and who's just reading video title. Word on the street is that Draco will be back, but hey you didn't hear it from me :)
As always Mr. Mike a good video.. I've heard that Mr. Patey has another Wilga.. We'll have to wait & see what he does after scrappy.. I'm having a hard time waiting to see your plane finished & flying.. I hope you & your beautiful family stay safe throughout this covid-19 crap..
Draco 1 is not coming back, Mike Patey said so. Instead, he is going to build Draco 2, using another Wilga, which he has already acquired. Also, Patey had OVER 1.6 million invested into Draco 1, so..... ummmm... not exactly attainable. A decent used, late 60's or early 70's 182 with a Sportsman stol and VG's makes for an amazingly capable machine, and you can pick one up for less than the cost of completing ANY of these kits. And carry four adults plus fuel... and train in it, legally... how you miss the boat so hard is beyond me.
I have not yet subscribed to your channel... you content is getting better however if your going to spew facts about a plane such as draco. Might want to research it. Take off is approximately 118’ landing is approximately 140’. Keep up the hard work. I will keep poking my head in now and again and maybe I will subscribe..
Draco is no more! As Mike put it, I made a poor decision that day trying to take off in a high crosswind that almost cost me, my wife and a good friend our lives. As pilots we are always learning if we get the chance. I love your smile when you were taking off in the SuperSTOL XL aircraft. Grinning from ear to ear while you were heading for the end of the grass strip that terminates into a small pond and then trees. Knowing that any hiccup would result in a splashdown and foliage you were keeping your cool smiling ear to ear. What power that aircraft has and what confidence you had in your pilot. Great footage on all the kit planes except Draco! If I had the money I would build one too!! I think Mike has purchased another white Willga aircraft to replicate Draco! At least that’s what I took away from seeing footage of a Willga aircraft showing up near his hanger?? Fly safe and we can’t wait for you Sling!
Mike Patey’s current project is “scrappy”, a one off, custom carbon cub of his own design. It’s amazing to watch him build this thing from his own imagination. Can’t wait to see the finished product, looks like it’ll be even more amazing than Draco if that’s even possible. Can highly recommended catching his UA-cam channel
Jamie Matterface - I have followed Mike & Mark his twin for several years now and as a Engineer I am still amazed with all his aircraft configuration that he comes up with. I been involved with designing aircraft systems and structures for 35 years and working directly with composite during the same time. I flew for the Navy for 8 years but the designs and rapid tooling he comes up with and his work ethics still amaze me to this day. I am humbled by his achievements and have to pay homage to his contributions to General Aviation and Experimental aircraft. He’s the man! Burt Rutan ain’t shit! Scrappy is going to be a bad ass aircraft. I had to ask him if placement of the stick in the full forward position with his gust lock position design would cause the tail empennage to raise up in windy conditions without being tied down. Or would the elevator surface angle of attack be trimmed down to compensate for the elevator being locked in the nose down position. He said great question and he’ll answer this later with a full explanation??

There are build assisting his TSI for free so he's essentially getting a completed kit for the cost of the standard kit. So take anything he says about Sling with a huge grain of salt. They just saved him $100,000 so of course he has promotional obligations to them.
He’s building a plane called Scrappy. The idea is taking pieces he’s got around the shop and making another super performance plane. This one has a piston engine, it’s an opposed 8 cylinder from another plane of his. He has made several videos of this build.

The Sling high wing TSI completed at $120,000 would be a game changer, however it seems that it will be closer to $200,000 completed, but even then it's economy and speed at alt help it compete even with the higher price.

I am curious, you said experimental bush planes and yet you are showing Sling TSI (Not a bush plane as far as I am aware) and Polish PZL 104 Wilga 2000. Wilga is no more in production and the last model was fitted with 360HP engine which was overkill for this plane. Wilga is NOT bush plane and is not available as a kit. Wilga was designed as agriculture plane (Versions PZL 104 - 35 and PZL 104 - 80) and was modified as multipurpose aeroclub training plane and glider towing plane. It is normal in Poland to see Wilga towing up to 3 gliders at once. Wilga 2000 was designed mostly for Canadian/American market that is why this plane was not fitted with Russian AR14J engine. There is plenty of Wilgas worldwide flying with a Russian engine. This plane should not be listed here. I know that Mike converted this plane putting PT6 turboprop in it and he did modify almost everything in that Wilga, but You can also declare let say Cessna (any model) as Experimental plane and do what you are pleased to do. I am wondering why there is no a plane like J3 on your list? There is many versions available as experimental/LSA kits on the market and they are meant to be as a bush plane.
The first Price of the kidfox Must be wrong. How come if you the airplane unassembled its $30,000 and if you build it yourself it's 75,000. maybe I'm not understanding something.
A lot of the turboprop aircraft have reverse pitch to help with shortening landings. It’s common on commercial planes that need to keep flying even if runways are iced over.
The foil that allows the Just Superstol the ability to be controlled at very low speeds are called "slats" , not "slates". The "a" is short like in "cat" in the "hat".
I’m loving the scrappy build videos, can’t wait for the next video to see the latest progress and can’t believe the amount of garmin glass he’s fitting in that thing, it’s going to be awesome !
Many people have asked about the aircraft used for the thumbnail/photo. I'd like to know as well. It sure resembles a Team Air-Bike but seems larger and obviously the tube aft portion of fuselage is quite different. If anyone knows, please share!! Thanks!
but you are restricted to airport landings... form and function... I have mines out where airports aren't... so ...it's sounding like a bargain... and I might have to buy a couple... and I can hang out the door and look at the ground... at 35kph... or close to it... the mosquitoes are another possibility... .. or both
Wait one second. These prices are impossible ... unless the prices do not include engine and avionics. In which case, you really should say that explicitly, and give prices for all airplanes with comparable engine and avionics. BTW, also include the Highlander (if I recall the name correctly), which I've seen take off in ... get this ... 6 feet distance!!! :-o :-o And land in 27 feet. Freaking amazing!

Can someone explain why it’s 70k to build your own plane? I under stand tool costs and all of that. But if I have my own space and I have my own tools already, what is the extra fee? I budgeted for twice the kit price for the build. I guess inspection fees and reg is really that much on top?

Many people have asked about the aircraft used for the thumbnail/photo. I'd like to know as well. It sure resembles a Team Air-Bike but seems larger and obviously the tube aft portion of fuselage is quite different. If anyone knows, please share!! Thanks!
Top rudder ruckus
Great content as always but for 70 grand I can purchase a very well equipped and nice conventional aircraft...
but you are restricted to airport landings... form and function...

How much to keep in park...can park in my home?
What ultralight plane is that in the starter pic ?
@@Ptro1 thx
Phenomenal.
I cried when Mike crashed Draco...
I think he handled it better than I did..
Uhhhh....Zenith 750&801? Zenith is equal if not better than most of these (except Draco of course) and Zenith has amazing customer support.
Forgive my ignorance Mike, but I don't understand why, . . . . when you say the kit price is $27k, the "finished" price is $70k! Why?
Thank you.
Engine and avionics
Good
ليش ما عدنه هيج ببلدنه مع الاسف والله
nice draco
interested to get one...
No Highlander or Zenith?
Anyone have info on the plane in the thumbnail ?
¿Como puedo comprar uno desde Chile?
6:31 that TBO tho 😁
Rest in pieces tho 😔
Does anyone know what the plane in the thumbnail is?
Can someone explain why it’s 70k to build your own plane? I under stand tool costs and all of that. But if I have my own space and I have my own tools already, what is the extra fee? I budgeted for twice the kit price for the build. I guess inspection fees and reg is really that much on top?
I guess engines and avionics are not included in the kit price
surprised no mention of Zenair.
how much price for draco flight?
Yea Draco was a badass airplane ..till Mike ground looped it . Now it’s tore up . I’m surprised Zenith acft didn’t make list ...great acft. ,
