I was born in 1948... So, 7 or 7-1/2 years after the events depicted. I never cease to be amazed by the scenes that ‘movie makers’ manage to put together. They look very much as I would have imagined them to look. Thank you to al who made these movies...
In my humble opinion, this is America's greatest victory and it defined us forever.
Gran valor y coraje de los estadounidenses, y exelente trabajo de inteligencia.
I still think that shot that moves from Ensign Gay to the fighters diving on the carrier to destroy it is breathtaking.
Just a superb film showing the turning of the tide in the Pacific War and the insane bravery of the American Pilots who risked it all to defeat the Japanese.
A true David and Goliath battle.
Yamamoto took over 200 ships in the operation to seize Midway.
Nimitz countered with less than 30. He left the 7 battleships he had available in California waters.
He planned to ambush the Japanese Carriers, and that's what happened.

Most people don't see that, 3 US carriers against 4 IJN carriers actually engaged. The rest of Yamato's fleet never got close and ran the next morning.

How could those aircraft fly? The weight of the pilots BALLS!
The Island on the Kaga was on the Starboard (Right) side of the Ship. the Hiryu and Akagi had the Island on the Port (left side) of the Ship
Soryu's island was also on the Starboard side of the ship. As were all following carriers.
Only Akagi and Hiryu had their island to port.
The superhuman courage of the American pilots is beyond description !…🫡
Brilliant music for this clip, so apt.
The music is just so fitting to this moment in history. Just fantastic.
Your rendition of this incredible VICTORY is very much like a PIRATED MOVIE sold in Japan. The best part (the ending) hit the cutting room floor. NO SOUP FOR YOU!!!
Video bello, ma incompleto.
The pilot shown is the only bomb that hit
For the loss of ten aircraft and 12 men, the aviators of TF 58 sank Yamato, Yahagi, and four destroyers (two sunk, two scuttled).
Wrong battle
The Yamato wasn’t sunk until the end of the war not at the beginning of it.
the Yamato was sunk 7 April 1945 during Operation Ten-go
Why do you mention the Yamato, ther attacking aircraft carriers
God grant eternal rest to the heroes of Torpedo Squadron 8 USS Hornet.

31 aircraft diving on the carrier, Kaga achieved 4 hits, Best with his 3 planes Diving on Akagi Achieved 1 Hit and 2 near misses which damaged the rudder . Yorktown's VB-3 scoring at least three hits Sōryū,
U know ure stuff rip v8
And not a scratch on Hiryu. I've always wondered how they did not see her? I read about being in a rain shower, but she should have been in close proximity to the Other Three Carriers....in the center of the formation. Too bad we didn't get all 4 in the First Strike.

Greatest navel battle in a two thousand years! Surpassing Trafalgar. Only Salamis in 480BC is more significant.
And then there’s Leyte….,the largest naval battle in history…but MIDWAY will always be the DECISIVE BATTLE….!
If it wasn’t for March 9,1862, there wouldn’t be a midway, we’d all be still having wind powered sailing ships. That changed thanks to the Merrimack and Monitor engagement that day in 1862.

He jumped off at the last second.
Once he knew there was an American Task Force near him IJN Navy Admiral Nagumo should have launched an air strike IMMEDIATELY, regardless of what weapons they were armed with. Then, with his decks cleared he could have landed the Midway Island strike force and rearmed those planes with anti-ship torpedoes and bombs, and then launched them against the Americans. There would have been enough time to properly coordinate that attack force.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing but it probably wouldn’t have done much good
@@steveosborne2297 you never known unless you try
That would have been contrary to Japanese Naval doctrine.
Yes, that is the current conventional wisdom: the junior Carriers had full complement of Vals ready to go, while the big carriers had a half set of Kates ready. The real problem was there were no Zekes available. And the Midway strike force was nearing time when it would NEED to be recovered.
In the end, it was the rigid doctrine in and amongst the many competing possibilities that doomed the IJN carriers.
It’s easy to be an expert 80 years after the battle. Try to be in charge of 6,000 men and numerous combat ships under attack at the same time. Stress is a terrible motivator.
歌很好聽然後飛機也很精彩
The🎶 Music📎🎶 score
Nagumo was a diffident and capricious commander. Entirely unsuited to the task he was granted after much internal rivalry.
Yamamoto himself should have been at the helm and kept a portion of the force in reserve as insurance against total annihilation.
They did keep a portion in reserve and did so by Admiral Yamamoto's orders. The attack on Midway was done with approximately half of the strike aircraft available to Kido Butai, which is one of the reasons why that attack failed to put Midway islands air strips out of service. The rest of the strike aircraft were left in the hangers and couldn't be brought up on deck because the Combat Air Patrol fighters had to cycled through, because one American attack after another used up the Zero's ammunition, plus the fighters took some losses which had to be replaced and it was felt there was a need to put up additional fighters to improve the air defense.
Even though all four Japanese carriers were sunk, we have the Japanese air launch records that tell us when each fighter each Japanese carrier was sent up, when they came down to refuel and rearm and when new planes were sent up to join them. If you haven't read Shattered Sword; The Untold Story of the Battle of Midway, you really need to get it. It's great book that lays out what happened in way no book before it had done.
While you are right about Nagumo, I place more blame on Yamamoto. It was Yamamoto's plan, it was a terribly flawed plan and Yamamoto completely underestimated the American will to fight his forces head on.
We should be thankful that Yamamoto didn't command the Carrier Task Force. The War in the Pacific may had a very different outcome, even with such brilliant Navy leaders men as Halsey, Fletcher, Nimitz, Kincaid and Spurance on our side.

From war history documentaries I've seen, the altimeter spins significantly faster.
wouldn't that depend on the angle in which the aircraft dove?
@@stevenbaer9061 likely, but statements by the pilots was the angle was very steep and it did spin very quickly.
@@rutabagasteu So you are referring to the diving attacks on the carriers at Midway, ok, I think a bigger error is showing a twin engine bomber attacking one of the US carriers, from what I have read no twin engine Japanese bomber was involved in that battle.
@@stevenbaer9061 Yup. Midway. My impression of these videos is to play heroic music and the general situation. I dont see them as accurate.

If battleships attack other battleships they are in range themselves. With aircraft carriers first strike is usually decisive. Battleships promote stand off. Carriers promote attack.
Rivetting, edge of the seat stuff. Like several other officers in the second world war (notably D Day) who knew what was coming, but could do nothing about it, I genuinely felt sorry for that young officer on the rearmament deck.........

Just guys that were in your H.S. graduating class.
This seems to grossly underestimate the time needed for the Japanese to launch their bombers. According to 'Shattered Sword' from rearming to launch would take at least 45 minutes. But, they could not begin to do this while they had fighters taking off and landing.
not sure why Nagumo didn't have 2 carriers receive the incoming planes while the other 2 carriers commenced takeoffs for attack.
@@mark.8949 I don't know either, but, it seems that the air groups were organic to their ship. The air groups of Zuikaku and Shokaku could have been switched and they would have had another carrier. It seems that they never even had a thought like this.
@@mark.8949from what I have read it has to do with their carrier doctrine. Nagumo stuck to it more than some others may have, but it seem to dictate coordinated mass attack from all carriers. Plus I am not sure two carriers could have taken all of the Midway attack force on board.
The four front-line Japanese carriers were not escorted by a large number of cruisers and/or destroyers. Part of the problem for the Nagumo's carrier force was that he didn't have enough anti-aircraft guns. He had to rely almost entirely upon his umbrella of fighter planes. Yamamoto's heavy battleships and cruisers were a full day of steaming behind Nagumo. Fortunately for the U.S., it was a very poor strategy based upon specific assumptions coming true.
Whats song??
Never eveh showed the torpedo bombers attract, which made the dive bomber attack so successful
Fantastic Japanese warrior spirit... Allahu akhbar.
Still prefer Tora Tora Tora as a war film. At least they used real aeroplanes. And at least tried to get it accurate.
How would they get a bunch of World War II planes that don’t exist? There are only a couple flyable sbd dauntless in the world, same for the Japanese zero and Kate bombers, no torpedo planes, so they should’ve spent billions of dollars making all these airplanes😂😂😂
@@Alex.Kaleipahula I honestly don't know. However for the film Battle of Britain they did use real planes
I think they got them from Latin America and that film was made about three years before hand. It's too early for CGI and some of the scenes where the planes are used they are clearly not models. I can't remember where they got them from
But they would only need a few. It was an exceptional film.
The soundtrack of this movie is fit of this war movie, I admire to whom plays this music, very classical sound effect...
Carriers under attack don't steam straight ahead, they maneuver violently.
They can't turn very sharply or quickly. Too much inertia in motion.
@@TomKirkman1 You must have never seen actual combat footage of Japanese carriers performing evasive maneuvers while under attack.
@@AlaskaErik And Yorktown class carriers could maneuver quicker than the converted battle cruiser/carriers that served Japan's navy. For anyone interested, there is footage on youtube of USS Enterprise heeling over so sharp to starboard while dodging Vals at Santa Cruz that an unsecured SBD slides off the deck and into the catwalk.
What is movie name?
Midway 2019
Tully and Parscall, among other insights found that Enterprise and Hornet launched 30-45 minutes before they were spotted by the Tone floatplane.
The bigger mystery, that will probably never be answered, is WHY the Hornet CAG flew the outbound heading they did.
Enterprise air group flew a heading southwest, to the maximum distance Kido Butai could sail south at 20 knots, based on (inaccurate) sighting reports.
Yorktown by Midway had more experience attacking Japanese carrier. Her air groups departure track assumed that Kido Butai would not be traveling southeast all the time, but would have their progress slowed by turning into the wind, and launching/recovering airplanes
Yorktown air group essentially flew straight to the target, and attacked the same time as Enterprise, even though they launched about an hour later.

After dec-7 pearl Harbor, on the way back to japan why adm. Yamamoto did not swing by and capture midway ??
No landing force. Soryu and Hiryu detached to provide air support for ongoing attack and occupation of Wake Island.
The island was insignificant. Yamamoto was trying to draw out the remnants of the American fleet (carriers) and destroy it. They were out and waiting for him. Careful what you ask for.
Yammamoto wasn’t even in board, he was in Hiroshima bay directing Nagumo how to proceed.
A landing force is too slow. It could not accompany the carrier raid.
Midway itself was unimportant. The Japanese could not hold it. And in June, 1942, they probably could not take it without regard to the carrier battle outcome. They did not have nearly enough men, and crap landing craft for assaulting the beaches.
@@CSAFD He was actually on the Yamato several hundred miles behind the carrier force.
It’s bad no editing just copy and paste
They don't show the coral sea battle. In Midwey they did not show the Japanese offensive on the USS Yorktom
No reason to show it. It didn't change the course of the battle any.
@@stevewixom9311 Really???
@@stevewixom9311 The damage inflicted on the Japanese carrier Shōkaku and the loss of aircraft of the carrier Zuikaku during the Battle of Coral Sea prevented them from participating in the Midway operation. Which definitely changed the course of the battle. The attack and subsequent loss of the USS Yorktown took place during the Battle of Midway, so I believe it should have been shown.
@@evanpilot my dad served on the yorktown at both the coral sea and midway, Dad said that the one jap carrier they sunk and the other was damaged at coral sea, they very well could have faced them at midway the Yorktown was damage at midway but when they were returning back to Pearl was hit by torpedos from a jap sub and was sunk
@@evanpilot It also doesn't show the attack on the Hiryu. And?
The Japanese only got a few rounds of AA Fire away as they were completely taken by surprise. This does not show that.
素晴らしい❗
The depiction of the Japanese AA fire is grossly unrealistic in the movie. Also, the carriers operated solo, with no other ships with 5 miles to assist in AA fire. It's just a movie.
Buen video pero sin conclusión. Lástima.

Why do they always get dive bombing wrong.
Because getting it right isn't nearly as spectacular

Your loaded decks doomed you
Not very realistic. The Japanese anti-aircraft was never this intense or accurate. The real danger early in the war was the Zero's superiority over outdated US aircraft. It is where the vast majority of losses came from that day. Secondly, the way they show dive bombing is laughable. Not only the way they show them diving on top of and abreast of one another, but the angle of attack is also wrong as well.
True but for the vast majority of audience's it looks great and I never expect a documentary from a war movie same with Fury...

The music is necessary?
Pointless without sound.
Shows why every senior commander need s "Plan B"- the japanese should never ared all planes with bombs or torpedos-a 55/550 mix would have been safer. And why did they send Admiral Hosogaya with a carrier to attack Dutch Harbor-it was almost a worthless target..another foolish diversion that jeopardized the whole operation.
Your plan B and understanding of a diversion is totally laughable.
