- Here's my portrait of JRR Tolkien.
I used willow charcoal, charcoal powder and Master's Touch charcoal pencils on a Fabriano drawing paper. The reference is here: photos.app.goo...

Tracing on a paper sheet over a computer monitor, I would have never thought about that.
Your art is impressive, keep uploading videos.
I tape a printout to a window, pull up a chair and trace it. Works great if it's sunny out.
Charcoal and pastels are the only art ideas for paper I struggle to do but paper and pen I can do! I will say however that I have learned a lot just by this video and I will try some more down this charcoal art!
Thank you 😊
Very weil done, love it. Thanks for sharing. 👍☝🏻😍
Your work always amazed me 🫡
Oh. And your voiceovers are so meaningful relative to the piece.
I love all your videos. I'm retired now since 3 months, and I'm going back to the drawing table. I'll be a patreon by the end of the month, to learn more 😎
Impressive, great portrait, great tutorial and I've appreciated your explanation on the materials you use and why you do. Hope you're as good at taking compliments because this is a mighty fine piece of work you've shared with us. Thank you.
@@martinharwood4217 thank you.
I STARTED TRACING BUT NOW I CAN DO FREESTYLE OH YEAH ART!!!
Perfektno 😊
so nice 😍
I don't have wrinkles. It's just the illusion of texture. :-) Seriously, this is AMAZING! Thank you for generously sharing your talent and tips with us all these years. I was wondering if you could answer 2 questions for me....
1. I never knew you could layer color pencils on top of charcoal. Are you using wax-based? Can you put charcoal on top of color pencils as well?
2. Do you spray your charcoal artworks with a fixative for commissions? I was just about to start a portrait of a white bulldog in graphite, but I'm going to use charcoal instead after seeing this. I'm wondering if I should spray it because I intend to frame it and give it to a friend.
Again, THANK YOU SO MUCH! Your tutorials are among the absolute best on YT. They are detailed and up close with no distracting music, text flying across they screen.
Thank you. To answer your questions: 1. yes, but you must never press hard with the colored pencil because charcoal itself is matt. I use the colored pencil as a sort of a lighter more precise charcoal pencil.
2. yes. with charcoal there are no problems with fixative. I spray two good coats.
@@MiroslavSunjkic great. Thank you!
Tracing!! I have resisted it, but after your explanation I will try it. ( have used grid for many years, like 75 years😂) The transfer of the traced image to the drawing paper is something I don't understand. Do you put graphite on the transfer side or how do you do this? I have only tried charcoal a few times (to messy) but I think, after watching several of your works, I am going to spend more time with it. Love to watch and listen to you explain things.
Another very wonderful mesmerizing piece unfolds. So glad that you chose Tolkien as the subject.
Wondering - Seems that, when not using a kneaded eraser for highlights, etc., you will more often use a Koh-I-Noor pencil eraser, and less often use a Mono Zero eraser.
What guides your choice of which of the two, Koh-I-Noor or Mono Zero, to use for a particular piece?
Thank you.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
So enjoyed this.. can you tell me what paper you use? 👍🏻
Fabriano around 200gsm I think
@@MiroslavSunjkicthank you x
How do you store tour artwork so it doesn't smudge?
I spray it with a lot of fixative.
@@MiroslavSunjkic doesn’t it change the colour/ darkenthe charcoal?
@@EKS49 no. No issues with charcoal.
@@MiroslavSunjkic just bought charcoal wordless pencils now to see if I can use them
Your work always amazed me 🫡
Thank you.
