I don't know why but I feel like this series could be just as much about depression/mental illness as it is about the whole mono probe thing. If you look at it from a different angle, it's like mono's are people who have depression, who live in a gray world which is how depressed people often describe feeling looking at the world and then there are the probes, which could be just another word for a soulmate, so just someone who can make that persons gray world turn colorful again, make life actually feel like living. Throughout the story Yeon woo is seen as a very lonely, dark character until Yoohan comes into his life and showes him color aka showing him love and of course you would be afraid of that love because you don't feel like you are worthy of that love and love is terrifying because it means letting someone into your heart and give them the chance to hurt you, which is why he resists him so hard. The part about him being afraid of hurting Yoohan could be the thought of dragging him down into his dark world, hurting him by making him feel miserable too but he already feel in love with Yoohan so he decides to end his life as he realizes that he can't be apart from him anymore but still feels like he isn't good for him and that he is better off dead. Surviving the suicide attempt and taking those pills is kind of him accepting that in order to continue living he needs to forgot Yoohan, making himself feel numb ,,I'm traped in the gray world again". But we get a happy ending as Yoohan doesn't let himself get shaken from Yeonwoos words and he tells him that he needs him just as much as Yeonwoo needs him, so his inability to recognize faces could also just be a physical presentation of him also having wounds and a dark side and that he isn't perfect either and in the end they both dare to love each other and Yeonwoo doesn't have to live in his gray world anymore (fighting his depression) and Yoohan has someone whose face he will always recognize (not feeling lonely anymore and finding someone you truly love). This is in no way offical or anything, I just kinda thought it fit so well and I actually like to think it was meant like this haha.
