    Merry Christmas! You don’t have to buy more beebalm, just plant out the seeds in some seedling pots to plant out.

    Merry Christmas. You can use deluted hydrogen peroxide for mold on plants use one table spoon of hydrogen peroxide to 1 litter of water for mold on leaves. And use 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide to 1 gallon of water for root rot. Love your garden. Congratulations on the caterpillars.

    The gulfs do turn a bit whitish when the are pupating. I’ve noticed that with mine.

      Thanks for confirming! Deep down I was hoping I was finally getting some zebra longwings... I always see them in the area... but alas who can complain about more gulf fritillaries 😂

    I am in the Keys ad the Scorpions Tail showed up after Irma and they grow crazy. I’ll tell you that I never ever water it and it is growing in sand/rock soil. The bees love it! Good luck!

      I'm wondering if they may want more sun... and maybe the soil is too good... This was helpful! Thank you 😊

    Good job on the video! My Scorpion Tail is doing the same in Lakewood Park. So cool the way Seaside Goldenrod brings movement to the habitat!

    hi i just saw in an article that zebra longwings wont lay eggs on passion vines in the sun because of the gulf fritillary! the vines have to be in the shade

    • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  3 роки тому +2

      Good to know! I'll keep watching and hoping that once the arch fills in the one side may be shady enough to get Zebra longwings. Thanks Tiffany!

    What you may want to do is put a root barrier next to the goldenrod. It will block the runners from going further around the house.

    • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  3 роки тому +2

      Good idea! I think I need that for the Passion Vine... more runners are popping up!

    I’m late to your series and I’m actually in NC! But having done some research, we have some of the same natives. I’m starting a butterfly garden and ordered plants from Joyful Butterfly, a great source located in SC. They grow natives for regions across the country, which is great if you can’t find some of them at your local nurseries. The plants are beautiful. I’m guessing your bee balm grew back. Here in coastal plain NC you can’t kill it. I don’t know what kind of spiderwort you have, but it is a nightmare all through big sections of my gardens, especially my roses. It seemed like a good idea at the time. If it looks like it’s going to be invasive, act fast. It spreads by root and seed, and wherever you pull up a plant - you can’t get all the roots - and then you have 15 new plants from all the pieces of root. It will crowd everything out. I hope yours is a different variety because what I have is madness.

    • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  3 роки тому +1

      I love it! I will definitely check out Joyful Butterfly! Some of the natives are aggressive growers... the good thing is I have all that cement blocking them in... although golden rod has spread by wind into other areas. The spiderwort isn't growing aggressively but we have been in the dry season... we'll see what happens when the rain comes!

    • @RetroYouthYouthRetro

      Also, that scorpion tail looks like it's either getting too much water or there's not enough moisture in the air. Maybe mist it once a day for the next week and see how it does?
      Be on the lookout for mildew- that's the common issue my scorpion tails get

    Could your maypop be getting too much sun? Don't worry about gently touching the gulf fritillary by mistake. They look spiky but it is soft. This is not blooming season for spider wort.

    • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  3 роки тому +2

      Up until the cold snaps, it has looked very happy on the one side. That is good to know about touching the gulf fritillary caterpillars! I hadn't attempted it... but now I feel better when I go to prune. On the spiderwort.... yeah... I was just hoping... but I will be patient 😊

      @@WildFloridian I've had spiderwort for a few years. They spread like crazy. They don't bloom this time of year. The maypops like shady areas, so you may have to move them when the sun moves and it gets hot. When I've had to move gulf fritillaries you can't even feel their "spiky looking" appendages. I'll be interested on how your beauty berries do with being very pruned and moved. I read they can get 4 feet or more wide.

    do butterflies like jasmine when its blooming

  • @Stepniki
    @Stepniki 3 роки тому +1

    I have my scorpion tail in a shady area and it looks bad too. I have more blooms than you but some leaves have a whitish stuff on them and some look crisp like it's too dry. The whitish looks like something getting too much water. If anyone has any suggestions, let me know. Dotted horse mint/spotted bee balm dies back, but new ones will come up.

    • @WildFloridian
      @WildFloridian  3 роки тому +1

      I think it may be the shade... now that the sun is shifting back and it is getting warmer, the leaves are back to health green.

    Love the videos! You mentioned in one of your videos that you live in St. Petersburg. Do you have a nursery you'd recommend? I also live in St. Pete and have been going to Wilcox. They're great, but a bit of a haul. I'd love to find something closer. Thanks!

      @@WildFloridian one cool thing to do is buy or make a caterpillar homes, since you know their host plant you can feed them what they eat and watch the whole process as they hatch out of their cacoons.
