Yeah BIS is one of my favorite games of all time to this day I think I’ll wait to see what fans think before buying this one. Reviews seem either too critical or too kind
@@ajnunez8788then you can play the 3D Mario Games. Why would you want them to change the RPG series into a plattformer series, only because you dont like RPG? This Game is a Spin-Off (like Mario Kart or Mario Party), not a game from the main series, so no time will be wasted for this, which could be instead used for a new 3D Mario Game, because these Games are made by different studios. Just skip this game and wait for the new 3D Mario (which will probably Launch shortly after the switch 2 release)
You haven't even played it yet. You know sticker star and Paper jam wasn't that good. You know Mario and Luigi has problems with long ass tutorials that's 50% of the game.
Only if they also let you make it harder, otherwise good players and old fans will have a too easy time and lesser experience But can you really claim “new players can experience the series like we did” if their experience is much easier? That’s NOT the experience we had nor how we got into them. Games being too easy is proven to lower long term attachment rate, it’s less personable and memorable to just win by default. I hate how we coddle new gamers as if getting better at games is phobic in nature. Games should encourage you to learn. Games like this should challenge you to master their systems to win, not dilute down to mass appeal for skilless zoomers
@@MysteriousStranger50 Hopefully with how encouraged of a feature Battle Plugs seem to be, you can toggle them to make a harder experience. According to this review, the game is already fairly challenging too
@fernandozavaletabustos205 In my experience, older gamers want more easy games because they're too tired and busy to dedicate their lives to gaming like they did when they were kids
Upgradable bros moves (hopefully skill based), plugs (essentially badges) and a bunch of other 'stuff' - just Luigi Logic? We are so back, can't wait!!
Thank you, thank you, PJ and Alex for the thoughtful and in-depth review of Brothership! The IGN review had me worried, but after seeing this review I can tell that this will be a worthwhile and spectacular adventure! 🎉
I'm not even gonna bother watching the video (out of fear of spoilers), this was the game I never thought I'd see in my lifetime. I grew up with the brothers, I watched the die, mourned their passing, & got to see them descend from the heavens to grace us with their presence once again. idc what any reviewer says, good or bad, this game is going to be priceless once I get my hands on it!
@@gianlucacolangelo6578 People are upset because they gave it a 5/10. Not realizing these are personal opinions and lot of the issues they mentioned are actually valid problems.
That take on changing the appearance is more a JRPG problem then a Mario Bros problem. JRPG characters never change what they are wearing no matter how much Orichalcum Armor they are wearing.
Absolutely not true. Plenty of JRPG games change your look. Final Fantasy 1 changed your sprite. Xenoblade 1 and X have fully customizable costumes. Shin Megami Tensei 4 had new armor sets in every town. I could go on and on and on. Maybe you should just actually play JRPGs.
I love how the mario and luigi games give luigi a chance to shine unlike the main games, like how dream team revolved entirely around luigi, and how this game allows luigi to show off his observation skills
This annoyed me to hell. Can't understand why they changed this, makes no sense at all. Especially as it changes back to the way it was once you select the attack 😐
@ Yea, I’ve got involved. Shame you’ve got me completely wrong. I’m a Nintendo collector but won’t allow a game to blind me because it’s a Nintendo game. I’ve played plenty of Nintendo titles not worthy of their scores imo and it’s fine to have an opinion, but paying £50, $60 for a temu version of a Mario game is offensive. Happens way too much recently.
Long isn't always good... The reviews say there's a lot of padding (which even other Mario & Luigi games had) A short fun game is always going to be better than a long tedious game, or even a long game that is fun for 65% of the time. I'm not fighting through chores to get to entertainment. I buy a game to have FUN and if there's a bunch of sections that aren't the game is a waste of my time.
Just finished Dream Team on my journey to complete all of them again (I'll probably skip Paper Jam as I don't think I'll beat it before Tuesday), and yeah, the dialogue has to be EXTREME to say it has too much dialogue, from BiS onwards the game is filled to the chore with dialogue, Dream Team specially
@@Deather2012 Exactly!! Besides for the tutorial part Dream Team is one of the most popular in the series, yet it too has a ton of throw a way dialogue IGN is hopeless 🥲
I played Mario RPG on switch for the first time last year and was super impressed with it, especially since I love final fantasy. This looks cool im glad we are getting so much turn based Mario on switch.
For everyone talking about the IGN review, I suggest finding reviewers that have similar tastes to you rather than a generic page. I like and agree with Alex's and PJ's perspective a lot. Jose Otero on IGN was really good before moving on. There are other reviewers that I don't put as much stock into, not because they're bad, but because we have different tastes. And that's okay.
@@petebagwell6666If you bothered to watch the review, the reviewer didn’t “actively dislike” the series. He’s a fan of the series, and brought up fair critiques with evidence to back them. The problem with outlets like IGN is that there’s too many people reviewing games, from full-time employees to freelancers. So you never get a good grasp of any individuals’ opinions to contrast yourself against and find whether they exaggerate things to one side or the other. Because of this, all their reviews blend together and you’ll only see the face of the company. Which is why anytime a review gets high or low it can be a shock. Because people look at the nebulous brand expecting X score, meanwhile they rotate through so many people that it’s an inevitability that it doesn’t align with other outlets or ore-conceived notions of what they’d “normally” give it.
@@petebagwell6666 the person who reviewed brothership for IGN actually does like the Mario and Luigi games. In fact he was so harsh with brothership specifically because he felt it failed to live up to the legacy of the series and didn’t meet the expectations such a long wait for a new game built up.
@@petebagwell6666 How would you know you actively dislike a game until you have played it? And then isn't the responsibility of the reviewer to be honest in actively disliking a game while playing it? People can debate whether too many points were taken off based on a given perspective, but I can't fault the reviewer for being upfront in their feelings. Then after playing for myself, I can reflect on my own thoughts and see if I find this person's perspective line up with my own, and trust them moving forward. Have a good rest of your day!
So interesting that all reviews of this game are either very high or very low. Even in this one video, the main reviewer and Alex's personal take at the end are completely different 😅 I guess it's one of those games
The Mario RPGs keep me way more engaged than other RPGs. The simple fact you have to dodge/counter attacks to do the correct inputs to deal the most damage keeps them very engaging :)
Reviews are opinions. If you want to play it, you can formulate your own opinion. Alex's opinion is aligned with what IGN criticized. Just watch a few reviews. For me this is a game I want to play. Does have an effect on buy now vs buy later. Seems like a buy later for now.
Its weird to see how games are received over time People really started out with excitement and "we're so back" Now, this game has more mized reviews than helldivers over the course of this year I dont get why it gets like this, but im gonna just ignore it, because ive been waiting for this game for a long time now, and negatove reviews cant ruin it for me
@@Bupboy It's cause the game doesnt live up to the legacy of the ds games. It does however live up to the legacy of the 3ds ones. Most people are pissed because they thought the game would feel a lot like the old ones which to be honest were objectively better and more interesting (alien invasion, bowser's guts journey and playing as him). It's cool to play as mario and luigi again and the luigi logic thing is fun but I dont think it's so abstract as a gimmick it's really worth putting your money on. The best original addition this game had were the battle plugs which are just like badges but way way better. Overall I think the game is missing the old style of the mario rpgs, even though there are new npcs enemies bosses etc they are mostly trimmed down to a charging plug guy with 10 different variants, kinda like how toads come in different colors. If you think about it even back from superstar saga you had your normal bean npc then you had fawful cackletta, queen been, lady Lima with huge differences between looks and personality. It might seem like a nitpick but it does add a lot to the game. I am also not that big of a fan of the island system they have because it basically levels the game and I see them as stages which isnt very good for the mario and luigi games. The whole ship thing is cool until you realise that all you do is click on a map and it gets to a point where you just wanna arrive in a place already.
From what I have played, I agree there is a lot of dialog. I also don't like how they make you select luigis moves with A button. I recently played dream team over the summer, and going from that to this was confusing my brain as it was hard coded to push B for everything luigi. Edit: forgot to mention that they dumbed down/streamlined luigi. You no longer have to push B to have him jump . He automatically jumps now. Also performance is bad. Targets 30 but like TOTK I will tank a lot.
@@taric2133 No clue, but it seems as though they wanted luigi to feel more useful so they implemeneted an AI for him (I like a bit of that part that luigi helps out a ton now). However they should have at least kept the parkour element and the bros separation since that led to cool puzzles (Joke's end comes to mind).
The IGN review actually is really good. I would love a Matacritic 9 or higher, but there is nothing wrong with being a bit negative when some things suck and when you listen to the last part of the NintendoLife review, the points that are brought up, are actually the same.
My dude IGN didn’t even talked about anything good they just said the bad he says the game laggy then said he didn’t like playing on TV mode and said the we all don’t like it either idk who the hell they are to tell me what I won’t like…
@@xSabinx1 not what the fanbase thinks about it let’s not forget sticker star story was uninteresting and he gave that game 9/10 and mind you that game is one of the worst paper Mario games
From what ive seen the only negative is that the bros' exp meters are still not level, like why do the devs hate luigi enough to do this almost every game
Wild to give such a glowing review and follow it up with an unofficial but pretty damning complaint about a major part of the game (the story/characters). Nintendo UA-camrs are such shills.
i started the IGN review and had to stop very quickly, far too negative. Glad to be here and hear this much more positive voice, no matter the content :)
If you are only looking for positive praise, why even look at reviews? Seems like you're honestly dead-set on it to begin with. What exactly do you gain from just positive reviews? Wouldn't negative things be more beneficial to you? Make sure you you haven't overlooked something before jumping into a game., and/or confirm that you are still interested in a game even after hearing about flaws?
I bet I’m gonna love the game on release but I’m gonna be honest, criticizing the writing and characters to that extent makes me feel the 9 that was given wasn’t really deserved? A lot of people are giving the IGN review a lot of criticism but no matter how good battle gameplay is, the storytelling in an RPG matters greatly, so hearing the writing is dull makes me feel the game should be more at a 7 or 8 But we won’t know until the game drops for everyone lol
It's hard to say with Mario & Luigi games. Most people love the humor of the series, but I've never really seen anyone say that the plots themselves are fantastic.
@@Adam-xd9trI imagine what people mean in the context of M&L isn’t the actual plot, but the characters in play and their personalities. Fawful trying to take over the world or whatever isn’t exactly a magnanimous _story,_ but his personality and actions, make the journey interesting.
@@mrshmuga9 If you watched jojo's bizzare adventure the villians are a bit like those. Typicial daily villains looking to cause some trouble while they serve the big boss which also servers another etc.
I guess it depends on what type of RPG your looking for. Not alot of people play RPG'S for story telling nor is it always the main selling points for the genre.
Why no mention of the framerate performance? The IGN review mentioned the framerate and performance was incredibly bad and this review doesn't mention it at all so who has it right??
I mean the difference here is that it's a passing mention and not the center of the review. It is mentioned that there is performance hiccups but they're not letting that hold the game back.
@@AccessAnthonyFrankly, I doubt most people would even notice if a game was 30 or 60FPS or not without it being indicated; I don't know why it's such an issue nowadays. The most important thing is that it's consistent really.
Unless EVERY single person is lying it’s probably an Alex issue low key. Because I seen a lot of takes that brothership is the best story out of the series. Which is high praise to me because outside of paper jam I thought all the other stories was great.
Reviewers hype up virtually everything these days, so seeing high scores means little. No one has to “lie” for Alex/IGN’s concerns to be legitimate. It could just mean most reviewers put up with a lot. Fans criticized Dream Team for being hand-holdy, yet this looks to be just as hand-holdy and reviewers aren’t really mentioning it. I would not be surprised if in a few months people come around and say this is also hand-holdy after playing, despite purporting it’s “amazing” or “maybe/is the best in the series” just because reviews gave it high scores and they wanted it to be true.
@ Never said they wasn’t ever legitimate at least in Alex case. Give Nintendo life more credit than IGN because it’s nothing but a clown show there. Because the fact the latter have hype up games that majority of people would consider bad or average at best have people never being able to take that company seriously. My point being is his ‘issue’ is more subjective than anything. Like a lot of reviews in general honestly. 🤷🏾
From my experience, its a dope game. I wouldnt say it compares to the better m&l games unfortunately. It can be very tedious at times and theres not much enemy variery and only a handful of bosses. Battle plugs are awesome, although they can be a bit annoying to constantly set. The characters and story are peak. My issue was it took a LONG time for me to be interested. By the 7 hour mark i was bored out of my mind, but pushed through and it does get better. It took me 40 hours to 100% the game, longest in the series and imo the length doesnt feel as forced as dream team, which is good. But also the base gameplay isnt as interesting the other games so it really felt long. It did feel really good to connect islands and interact with new characters that are mostly pretty interesting. The game has superb animations, not my favorite artstyle though. And the music leaves a bit to be desired. But for sure id still recommend the game.
"Not much enemy variety" I noticed almost all of the enemies I've seen are just from older Mario & Luigi games. It looks like a lazy game to be honest.
Thanks for the feedback. Sorry to hear about the slow start up to get interested,. While that is a common issue with RPGs (and many recent Nintendo games for me tbh) it's still a shame to hear. So once I get around to it, I'll make sure it's during a time I can stick it out to get to the good stuff.
@@Vaquix000 yeah, there definetly are some new ones, but i definetly felt like as areas went on and on, i was sick of seeing the same ones. Especially because this game does the thing where they recolor an old enemy and give it improved stats and call it new. Gets a bit tiring
@@Jqcksremmurd I enjoyed seeing the old enemies again cause it makes me feel that Nintendo still cares about the older games and they might bring back some of that charm again. However I don't think that's the case. You forgot to mention one thing, even though there are new npcs and have personality their looks don't vary much at all. If you think about superstar saga you can name at least 20 different bean people: fawful, cackletta, lady lima, queen bean, shop owner, interest shop owner etc. I think I am almost halfway through the game and a lot of the npcs didnt leave me suprised, the only ones that stood were the IDLE gang for me but that's about it. A lot of missed potential so far with the people plugs as well, I was expecting some body horror regarding the plugs because it makes sense they would be hooked on chargers or something like that and you know that games like partners in time did use the body horror aspect (I know it's a kids game but still). Anyway the gameplay is the best it has been this far so I won't complain there.
Since the Mario and Luigi franchise is now on home consoles, we can now have the second Mario and Luigi Paper Mario crossover, but on a home console this time!
I wish he provided context. Was there a code in the world he was supposed to find and missed it, so he tried brute-forcing instead? Is it just a random lock there with little/no explanation? Because the context matters.
Performance issues aside, there simply isn't much to Brothership if you're used to playing other RPGs and expected something similar or better than Bowser's Inside Story. You could turn a blind eye to everything Brothership could have delivered but didn't if all you wanted was more Mario and a great art style. But it's hard not to be disappointed if you expected better pacing (new battle mechanics take a looong time to be introduced) and at least a little bit of difficulty to make gear and similar stuff relevant.
@rafaeldoraguille9169 I might give it a rent at first, but I'm definitely not going to overlook it. Ever since AlphaDream folded up, people have been begging for a new Mario and Luigi game through some other means. That's probably why most people are not going to be bothered too much by IGN's score, but it is really weird, though.
@@johnbakasmoothhotchocolate Sound strategy. I agree the game shouldn't be overlooked, it's just sad we have to make do and the developers might not take notes on what could be improved as it is probably going to sell well no matter what and that's kinda where they get the feedback from.
I think it's more of a super Mario RPG 2 with a Mario and Luigi coat instead of a full fledged Mario and Luigi game aka super star saga. The segmented and separated islands feel a lot like Mario RPG chapters and the story just .... Exists and drips through sometimes. Overall, it's a bunch of bite sized adventures instead of a big grandiose one
EDIT: Ok so apparently the game stutters a lot and Nintendo Life just didn't mention this?? Huh?? Glad to hear the game runs well for the most part. I don't want to buy end-of-generation games that are designed to run better on the upcoming newer system, I want them to run well NOW.
@@Danominator It runs very, very poorly. Especially on battles, there was no reason to keep the FPS locked to 30. I usually agree with Nintendo Life reviews but I think they turned quite a blind eye on this game's downsides.
Game looks great and I personally don't remember a turn based RPG Mario since Mario RPG. The end of the review, though, lol. "9/10...by the way the story isn't very good and there's a lot of story in this game."
That IGN review had me worried, NL’s review is on the opposite side of IGN, although it seems that Alex does agree with IGN’s POV of the story. I’ll have to wait for other reviewers to see how mix the reviews really are.
So I'm in two minds here with people's comments so I'll try and summarise them as best I can: 1: Some are blaming older hardware for performance issues. As much as I love the Switch, saying it's because it's an old console is a poor excuse when there are many other games on the Switch that run with pretty much no problems whatsoever (to mention games on previous consoles of course). 2: Some people are fixated on frame rates, an obsession that seems to plague gaming of late when it never used to be an issue. As long as it's consistent, I don't see why everything should be 60FPS. I can't fully comment on this game as I have not watched the full review so I'll guess I'll judge the consistency for myself when it comes out. But either way, I truly feel that people go on about frame issues to the near-exclusion of practically everything else. Were you all so bothered about this a couple of decades ago? 3: People snarking at IGN. Mario & Luigi is my favourite series of all time but that doesn't mean that someone is obligated to give the game a higher score just because it's Mario, much as I want it to have it review well (and yes, I know IGN has been controversial with their scores on previous occasions but a low score can still be a genuinely honest one). Nor, on the other side of the coin, does a high score equal bias. 4: People on various videos going on about the Switch 2 and needing more power, etc. Will more power give you want you want? Frankly, there's an upper limit to this kind of thing. Yes, the PS5 might let you count the pores of a character or whatever but that doesn't make it good or better. And I can only see people still complaining and continuing the graphics war even when they seem to get what they want. But if raw power was everything then no-one would play retraux games. For me personally, I hope I don't get another Sticker Star. But then, I suppose I do find it harder to get excited about the things I used to enjoy without question nowadays anyway.
“Were you all so bothered a couple of decades ago?” Depends by how far you mean, but games used to run at 60, lol. I agree that a consistent 30 is “fine” in that it’s the bare minimum of a functional game. But my gosh, it’s not the early 3D days anymore. 60 should be the standard by now/again, and yet there’s always excuses why it “can’t” be, based on things that aren’t even factors. Like saying “the Switch isn’t powerful enough”. Garbage. SNES could run games at 60. There’s no reason a console 5 generations/40 years later can’t. It’s just that they prioritize other aspects instead. I’d give somewhat of a pass if it’s something like BotW where it’s an open-world with a lot of objects and an elemental engine where fields of grass can light on fire with enemies and gusts of wind that can enable bullet time… but for much more simpler, linear experiences like this there really is no excuse why it not only can’t be 60, but that it’s 30 AND has frame drops. I’m not saying it’s unplayable/unbuyable at 30 (if stable), but that people make far too many excuses for why things can’t be BETTER. Just defences for whatever issues it has because they’re fanboys. Heck, people made excuses for Pokemom Scarlet/Violet too. The only reason why some eventually stopped is because the company itself said there were issues they’d fix, so they could no longer claim it wasn’t a problem when the studio itself confirmed it. It’s not even a “Nintendo-only” problem. The games on other consoles also don’t prioritize 60, even though the sacrifice of 60 to improve visuals is barely any different.
I'm seeing a lot f claims that no the frame rate isn't consistent actually. Since you said you're concerned about that, I'd suggest looking deeper into before deciding if/when you want to play.
Glad your reviewing this, Felix looks like he has just woken up, needs a wash, shave and sort out his clear issue of dermatitis/fungal infection around the face before being camera ready… it’s an instant put off whilst watching on a 65” OLED…
I prefer the achievements being in game then in the console themselves. So I actually prefer the way Nintendo does achievements. By having them be in-game 100% completion instead of external it makes me actually want to bother getting them all.
I was really hyped to see this in the direct way back, but now that it's out I'm kinda deflated on it. Not sure why. Will probably try it eventually, but I'm not in any particular rush to do so.
I think IGN was on crack when they gave this game a 5. No Mario rpg even deserves to come close to a 5 when it has a good normal battle system. Even paper jam is at lowest a 6
Just saying, a Dutch review of this game by IGN gave it a 8,5/10 and mostly complained about performance (but heavily praised a lot of stuff, like localization, visuals and gameplay)
Nah it will do well. The primary issue is that developing a game like this will take way longer than before since its made in UE and I have no freaking clue how they will innovate the formula again. This game looks like dream team so they need to seriously bring something new to the table. Maybe space or who knows
The Nintendo Life review was written by one person as mentioned at the beginning of the video. If people watch this video all the way through to the end, Alex gives his OWN opinion and by the sounds of it, I'd argue that it's safe to say that the IGN review is looking a tad more realistic than Nintendo Life's review of a 9/10. Perhaps a little low with a 5/10, but sounds like it's at most a 7/10 or 6/10. Seems obvious that if Alex were to give his own personal rating, it'd definitely not be a 9/10.
Depends on your expectations. I personally focus on simple fun. The series is never known for deep story element like SMT, metaphor that you discuss very real world topics
@@pencilcheck It's an RPG. Story and dialog are part and parcel of such games. That's like going into Celeste and saying "eh, I don't care for platforming, I care mostly about graphics." And even if the series was not heavily known for story elements, it's still a more than valid criticism for most people. No review is going to match everyone's hopes for any particular game, but it should fairly reflect on all aspects that are common to its genre and give a score that's reflective of that.
@@awale223 Story and dialogue are not inherently part and parcel for RPGs as the genre is vast and has many different niches. Mario & Luigi doesn't need to conform to someone's desire for complex storytelling and deep characters. All the game needs to have is entertaining writing, as that is all it has ever had, and to pretend otherwise is disingenuous. "Oh but it should be reasonable to expect them to strive for more" I can hear some people saying. But why perceive it as a need for something more or better? Because it didn't satisfy your own sensibilities? This game will be just fine for long time fans of the series as it is more of the same with regards to its writing, while being more and better with regards to the gameplay. The series evolves where its fans would like it to while maintaining the aspects of it that people already enjoyed in the past. As pencilcheck says, if you're looking for a more complex narrative or characters, there are plenty of options out there. We don't need to foist our expectations onto everything that doesn't scratch a particular itch. Having options is nice. As someone who IS coming off the heels of Metaphor, I'm more than happy to have something just light and fun to sink some time into.
@@Dracobyte You're joking right? Well that's great, considering Alex DIDN'T write the review, so yay! His opinion doesn't count! The writing, the dialogue, and the actual story itself does almost nothing for me." Because yes, those opinions totally match. /s
The IGN reviewed scared me. I know their movie reviews are usually completely out there, but their video game reviews are usually on point, so I'm glad this review even says it might be the best Mario RPG game ever.
I will try my best to avoid spoilers, as I want to get this as a Christmas present this year. That along with another Switch game that may or may not be MySims: Cozy Bundle, depending on what EA does with it.

As a fan of M%L series i'm very disappointed on this one. I played the game up to half point i guess and dropped. Even Bowser cannot save this madness Review doesn't tell about ridiculous loading times are, stutters, framerate etc. 30 fps is NOT good especially battles are relying on your timing. The game made in Unreal Engine 4 expect some bad experience because Switch cannot handle well. LASTLY WHY THEY REMOVED ABILITY TO CHOOSE COMMAND "B BUTTON" WITH LUIGI That pisses me off so much.
Bowser can save any game bro. The only downside this game has is that bowser didnt appear yet. Jokes aside the game does have aome issues and is bound to remain in mediocrity
This seems to be a soft reboot of the series, since Alpha dream went belly up. For one thing there doesn't appear to be collectable toads like in Paper Jam.
looks like it belongs on the original Wii, still buying it but man this is rough. i understand they probably had to make some sacrifices to keep the silly expressive artstyle we know from the past games regardless it looks rough.

One thing I dont see people mention is the action commands. They simplified a lot of action commands including the bros attacks they are VERY EASY TO TIME.
Regarding Alex‘ Opinion: To bad that the Npcs are supposed to be bland like that. I only played Superstar Saga but I loved the different characters and they had an incredible amount of personality. It was a big part of the humor of the game. I‘d feel like there‘d be a lot missing if characters didn’t make fun of Luigi or were hilariously vain or things like that.
Your fear is coming true but you also should've seen it coming. People keep saying mario rpgs are back and alla that but they wont reach the apex that was bowser inside story
I’ve heard nothing but bad things about the writing in this so I think I’m gonna skip for a while. Nintendo needs to look back at their older Mario RPGs and understand the reason they resonated was in large part the dialogue/writing, it’s been a long time since they’ve gotten anywhere close to their early paper Mario titles and the Mario RPG remake really showed how newer ones like sticker star just totally lack the soul in terms of dialogue/characters.
IMO Amazingly written Mario RPGs are the exception, not the rule. All of them have at least a few moments of "Oh I like that part's story" But only like one or two of them am I like "Oh yeah the whole thing overall is great."

I was already kinda expecting really long counters and moves, cause while I wish they weren't there, they seemed to become the norm as the series went on. Kinda like the equivalent to FF's summons.
Best in the series is high praise considering Bowser’s Inside Story exists.
Best in the series and Alphadream didn't even develop it (though some of their people were involved in the project). Tragic

Jose Otero on IGN was really good before moving on. There are other reviewers that I don't put as much stock into, not because they're bad, but because we have different tastes. And that's okay.
No that's bad, allocate your team correctly, don't make someone review a game they actively dislike

Noo I hate that he jumps automatically. That even was a mechanic before, why did they change that.
@@taric2133 No clue, but it seems as though they wanted luigi to feel more useful so they implemeneted an AI for him (I like a bit of that part that luigi helps out a ton now).

Performance issues aside, there simply isn't much to Brothership if you're used to playing other RPGs and expected something similar or better than Bowser's Inside Story. You could turn a blind eye to everything Brothership could have delivered but didn't if all you wanted was more Mario and a great art style. So I'm in two minds here with people's comments so I'll try and summarise them as best I can:
1: Some are blaming older hardware for performance issues.
“Were you all so bothered a couple of decades ago?”
Depends by how far you mean, but games used to run at 60, lol.
FINALLY, someone that said “champing” at the bit properly.
I prefer the achievements being in game then in the console themselves. So I actually prefer the way Nintendo does achievements. By having them be in-game 100% completion instead of external it makes me actually want to bother getting them all.
Short answer: YES
Indeed!
I was really hyped to see this in the direct way back, but now that it's out I'm kinda deflated on it. Not sure why. Will probably try it eventually, but I'm not in any particular rush to do so.
The thoughts on the story and characters tells me
It's not the best Mario rpg to date.
Im here after IGN's INTERESTING review lol
The SSS v BiS debate just found a new challenger?? Holy crap
I think IGN was on crack when they gave this game a 5. No Mario rpg even deserves to come close to a 5 when it has a good normal battle system. Even paper jam is at lowest a 6
I think you swap the 9 and 5
And yet they give trans simulator a 9
@@jakk2631yeah fixed it 😅
Paper Jam is a low 7. People rag on that game too much
You must not have played Sticker Star. I would not argue that game getting a 5, even though it is probably a 6 imo.
Just saying, a Dutch review of this game by IGN gave it a 8,5/10 and mostly complained about performance (but heavily praised a lot of stuff, like localization, visuals and gameplay)
If this game doesn’t do well, say goodbye to the Mario and Luigi series for another 25 years.
Nah it will do well. The primary issue is that developing a game like this will take way longer than before since its made in UE and I have no freaking clue how they will innovate the formula again. This game looks like dream team so they need to seriously bring something new to the table. Maybe space or who knows
It’s not that I trust IGN, it’s that I don’t trust people who won’t ever say something negative about Nintendo, like this channel.
Seeing IGNs review after reading Nintendolifes was quite the whiplash
All reviews included opinions from the people that writes them.
Official review: "We get a story that actually goes some places, writing that keeps the comedy aspects of this series alive and well". Whilst Alex at the end LITERALLY says "[...] story development and writing, that just doesn't give me the best time with this game. The writing, the dialogue, and the actual story itself does almost nothing for me." Because yes, those opinions totally match. /s
Im buying it NO MATTER WHAT. Ive been a die hard fan of the series since Superstar Saga
The words "40 hours" make me really happy.
I have been waiting for this game, but I am upset that it seems to be digital only? I really wanted a copy to add to my shelf with the others of the game. :( So holding off a few months to see what they will do. Thanks for the amazing review touching on everything!
Wait, where did you hear that? The game is also coming out physically.
It's not digitial only I've got a physical copy preordered right now.
Ppl praising this game fills me with joy its all that I wanted, their return to be awesome, however my one question is, is it difficult? I want some difficulty on the game
So far, the only thing I don't like is the total lack of camera control...I'd love to zoom it around or at least slide the camera to either side to have a look
As a fan of M%L series i'm very disappointed on this one.
I played the game up to half point i guess and dropped. Even Bowser cannot save this madness
Review doesn't tell about ridiculous loading times are, stutters, framerate etc.
All the 2D RPGs on "magic-secret-console", please!
It being 40+ hours isn’t a positive for me, but we will see. Already spent a voucher on it, so I’m all in.
Interesting, IGN gave this game a 5/10.
I think they gave Transformers One a 5/10 too. That was a fantastic movie. They're so out of touch over there.
Just finished dreamteam, wish I could have had the time to go back & play paper jam, but that will have to wait can't wait to jump into brothership
Beyond excited to play this Friday 😁😁😁
How does the dialogue compare to past games in the series? If we were satisfied with the story in BIS would we be good here?
This seems to be a soft reboot of the series, since Alpha dream went belly up. For one thing there doesn't appear to be collectable toads like in Paper Jam.
Can't wait for this game! I love me some Mario and Luigi games.
Haha i love calling out pj mid read 😂
40 hours! Yes! A giant game with side quests. This game looks great. IGN stinks they wouldn't know a good game if it bit them in the butt.
looks like it belongs on the original Wii, still buying it but man this is rough. i understand they probably had to make some sacrifices to keep the silly expressive artstyle we know from the past games regardless it looks rough.
After suprising Echoes of Wisdom, i can't wait play this game
One thing I dont see people mention is the action commands. They simplified a lot of action commands including the bros attacks they are VERY EASY TO TIME.
I think Alex actually played brothership... I wish I could say the same about Zion playing baten kaitos 1 + 2. 😅
Hello there lovely Brothers
I’ve heard nothing but bad things about the writing in this so I think I’m gonna skip for a while. Nintendo needs to look back at their older Mario RPGs and understand the reason they resonated was in large part the dialogue/writing, it’s been a long time since they’ve gotten anywhere close to their early paper Mario titles and the Mario RPG remake really showed how newer ones like sticker star just totally lack the soul in terms of dialogue/characters.
I think Origami King has great dialogue. Haven't played Color Splash, but I heard the humour was particularly funny in that too
Gonna be honest, that never mattered. TTYD is literally just PM64 with extra fluff. These games are more gameplay focused if anything.
IMO Amazingly written Mario RPGs are the exception, not the rule.
All of them have at least a few moments of "Oh I like that part's story"
But only like one or two of them am I like "Oh yeah the whole thing overall is great."
@@batmanbud2 You might say that never mattered but keep in mind the effort they put to flesh out even the most random koopa and his rich life story in a random house in rogueport lmao
I might get it :)
Just four more days... I can do this...
Shit I been playing it for over a week
@@runescape2710 I do not see any possible reason for you to say that other than to make me finally snap. If that is indeed not what you intended, I request you remove your reply.
can we just appreciate a game with a town called concordia was announced the same day concord announced it was shutting down lol
Looks promising but I'll probably pick it up later and save up for Dragon Quest 3 this month.
Fair call. Dragon Quest 3 is an incredible game.
enjoyed it quite a bit but there are a few problems i had such as some REALLY long counter attack sequences and bros moves that go on too long. overall 8/10 for me so far, not as good as bis imo. Although granted I am like 70-90% of the way through
I was already kinda expecting really long counters and moves, cause while I wish they weren't there, they seemed to become the norm as the series went on. Kinda like the equivalent to FF's summons.
