CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Montoya (Mandy Patinkin), Westley (Cary Elwes), and Fezzik (Andr the Giant) devise their plan to break into the castle and break up the wedding.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on William Goldman's novel of the same name, The Princess Bride is staged as a book read by grandfather (Peter Falk) to his ill grandson (Fred Savage). Falk's character assures a romance-weary Savage that the book has much more to deliver than a simpering love story, including but not limited to fencing, fighting, torture, death, true love, giants, and pirates. Indeed, The Princess Bride offers a tongue-in-cheek fairy tale depicting stable boy-turned-pirate Westley's journey to rescue Buttercup (Robin Wright), his true love, away from the evil prince (Chris Sarandon), whom she had agreed to marry five years after learning of what she had believed to be news of Westley's death. With help from Prince Humperdinck's disgruntled former employee Miracle Max (Billy Crystal), swordsman Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin), and a very large man named Fezzik (Andre the Giant), the star-crossed lovers are reunited.

TM & © MGM (1987)
Cast: Andr the Giant, Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin
Director: Rob Reiner
Producers: Norman Lear, Rob Reiner, Andrew Scheinman, Jeffrey Stott, Steve Nicolaides

"Let me explain." (Pause.) "No, there is too much. Let me sum up."
One of many classic lines in the movie.
"Lemme 'splain." lolol
A classic line in a movie full of classic lines.
This entire movie is just one giant quote. 🤣
Literally every line from this movie is one of the many classic lines in this movie
"In little less-a-half-an-hour"
"Don't pester him, he's had a hard day."
Gold.
Richard Munoz I love Andre
Right right. Sorry
I know everyone has already said it, but damn! RIP Andre. He could've executed so many more great roles if it wasnt for his tragic health deficiency. Crazy to know that he only softened the pain he was in during filming of this flick with a back brace and an insane amount of drinking. 🙁😣😞
Hey Inigo. I hope we win.
Why is every character so thoughtful in this movie 🤣🤣🤣
Fezzik's "I hope we win" quote is one of my favourites - Westley is fighting for Buttercup, Inigo is fighting for his father, Fezzik is simply fighting to help his only friends and because he wants to do the right thing
"Fezzik, tear his arms off."

@@squamish4244 oh you mean this gate key.
I love the idea that you are a lot to do the job to find the right to stay on your end
This feels right here.
*pastes line from Russian fighter in tournament*
"I thought we were the good guys."
I love how the plan is completely hopeless, but once wesley knows about the wheelbarrow they have a chance
Maybe the funniest part of the whole movie for me
I love how this role displayed Andre's sweetness.
Andre WAS a true gentleman. Saw an interview where Robin Wright talked about working with Andre.
Between takes in the swamp, when they huddled together for warmth, Andre would put his hand over Robin Wright's head.
His palm was large enough to cover her entire scalp, and his hands were always warm.
She obviously remembers him fondly...
You just wiggled your finger. That's wonderful! 😂
John Keith awwww
@@Kruppt808 You just shook your head! Doesn’t that make you happy? 😄
Yep, that's all I ever heard about him, the sweetest person ever. He could also drink 48 beers without having to pee, said Jake the Snake.
I love how in this movie the hero is helpless for the entire climax and has to use his...wits, of course. No climactic fight scene with the bad guy. Instead, Inigo Montoya takes over that role. The hero's big moment is one where he's bluffing the whole time.
The movie both subverts and plays straight many fantasy tropes, in such a way that it all unfolds flawlessly. Genius.
All it would have taken was Humperdink (pardon me for a second, that name still makes me laugh) to simply thrust...with his sword...man...taken out of context this could sound so much differently...
valar In the words of Count Rugen: Well spoken sir. Or Tolkien's Angel.
As you wish!
@@Chirpysemperboy Yes, but that would have required Humperdink to be anything other than a weak coward.
It's a total juggle of character archetypes: a valiant Prince is trying to save his betrothed princess, who was stolen by a band of mercenaries, including a noble swordsman with a tragic backstory, on a quest for revenge against an evil count, only to find out she'd been intercepted by a pirate rogue
In most stories, the Prince would be the hero, or failing that, Inigo. But here, they're the villain, sidekick, secondary antagonist, and protagonist respectively
I like the whole “you can barely lift a sword” and “it’s hardly common knowledge”. It shows he had already planned on bluffing from the get go. Even if he didn’t know the specifics
True.
Weasley thinks on his feet, and right now all he can do is think.
even funnier is miracle max foreshadowed him wesley bluffing
TO BLAVE
We’ve got the barbarian, the rogue, and the mostly dead fighter. I’d say that’s a balanced party
Not quite, you have the Rogue and the Fighter mixed up
All we need is a mage and we have the cast to dragonlance series

The way Andre shifts Cary's head around to point at who he's talking to is absolutely genius.
that was actually cary’s idea! he brought it up with rob reiner, who loved the idea and decided to put it in the scene.

And the little head nod via Andre was so endearing too.

I love Fezzik. He’s the kind of optimistic friend everybody needs in their life.
He's a great dude. "Don't pester him. He's had a hard day!" 😂😂☠️👻
I have one like that..! Not necessarily the brightest, but quite big and strong. And very nice…
I think we all should be like Fezzik.

"My brains, his steel, and your strength against an army of 60 men and you think a little head jiggle is supposed to make me happy? Hm?"
*HmmmMmmmMmmmMmmmm*
Sydney Bidney I love the hm noise he made
Cassandra Nom de Plume I mean, if we only had a wheelbarrow, that would be something.
Where did we put the wheelbarrow the Albino had?
Jared Ruff Over the Albino, I think.
Westley just looks so fed up with the world in this scene. Like, 'I am surrounded by idiots' kind of expression
Which makes it hilarious because, after we find out a wheelbarrow would make a huge difference for him, he's as much of an idiot as everyone else
I always thought that he was mentally at a loss because he realizes that his only help are the guys he beat in swordsmanship and wrestling strategy. So it's not that they are crap but he beat them so it doesnt make them great allies. I guess kind of the same thing but he wasn't necessarily thinking they're the worst.
Mrodgt westley was still leagues above anyone else in terms of strategists
And he did see them as a chance
He only looked at the chance where they 100% could break into a highly kept castle
You could tell he thought of everything when he asked inigo for a sword even though he knew he couldn't lift one just so he could threaten humperdinck
And to reach that 100% chance of success all he needed was a wheelbarrow
I'm 100% certain he did see them as great allies it's just that he wanted to be sure that they would enter the castle complete the mission and get out with no harm
Of course he forgot the possibility of rugen hitting inigo in the stomach with a knife by surprise so he did left harmed
🙄
Take it easy on him. He'd been mostly dead all day.
This movie is over thirty years old now and, still, has no equal in it's genre. Every line is quotable, every character relatable, every scene incredible, all of the dialog is impeccable and every role acted to perfection.
Eh, I wouldn’t say so much for buttercup, words can’t express the sheer annoyance I felt when Westley was fighting that warthog or whatever it was in the forest and she just continued to ballerina tap dance out of the way. Like, the sword is right there! Stab the thing! 😂
@@miavika1074 Women are... complicated. And by 'complicated' I mean they're a bunch of hypocrites.
"Holocaust cloak?"
@@miavika1074 Yeah, Buttercup is the epitome of the "damsel in distress".
You missed a great opportunity to end that with "inconceivable" lol
The size of Andre's hands, GOOD GOD!!!
Yeah, his hand is almost the size of Cary Elwes's head!
Robin Wright said that when she would get cold in between takes, Andre's hand was big enough to cover the whole top of her head, and he would keep her warm that way.
the size of a grizzly bear paw
Makes me wish he met with Richard Kiel or Ted Cassidy.
king of kaiju actually it was recorded that his hands were the size of a gorilla
I love his expression as he says “Why didn’t you list that among our assets in the first place?”. Every line in this movie is gold.
It truly is 😊
I love how Fezzik shakes Wesley's head in nods so he can accept Iñigo's apologies
That's my favorite
Andre was gold in this.
Firearms Training Channel yes that's so sad that he died when he was only 46 years old.
His acting was flawless and natural.
Andre was gold period, too bad he died young.
Westley's snarky: "Then why didn't you list that among our assets in the first place?" just cracks me up every time. As if Indigo should take inventory of every trivial item they might potentially be able to lay hands on. 🤣😂
All we got in this world is you, me, *him* ..and this wheelbarrow
I mean, you need to know all the details to make an working plan. Especially in a situation that dire
Indigo obviously had never played a Sierra adventure game before.
Inigo Montoya, not Indigo. your predictive text function betrays you.
I just recently got into D&D and my god I am realizing this movie is basically a D&D campaign or oneshot in movie form.
I love the “don’t pester him…he’s had a hard day.” The whole movie is great.
The way his head is just bobbling around is hilarious
This might be the most quotable movie of all time. I love every word.
The sass at 1:13 is always my favorite.
Who are you? Are we enemies? Why am I on this wall? Where’s buttercup??
That head jiggle makes the scene lmfao
You think a little head jiggle is supposed to make me happy?
HHHMMMMMMMMMMM
2:10
That's a full grown man's head Andre had his hands and yet it looks bigger than a grown man's hand on a new born 😂😂😂
R.I.P Andre, you were and is still One of a kind.
"Where we did we put that wheelbarrow the albino had?"
"Over the albino, I think."
0:30 his accent while saying all that makes me giggle for some reason
I love Andre so much!! He said the stuff we thought. "I hope we win".
2:16 I love how Fezzik nods Westley's head for him.
"Why didn't you list that among our assets in the first place..."
Andre is such a sweetheart. He is the definition of a friendly giant.
Andre was a heel or bad guy in WWE at this time and he was so beloved in this role that WWE turned him back into a babyface or good guy. Loved him in this film and the whole movie was magical and fun!
During filming, he was still a good guy. He turned heel in February 1987, and the movie came out in September 1987. I doubt the movie producers knew he was going to turn heel.
And he nearly didn't do the role either. He was scheduled to do a wrestling match in Japan which would conflict with filming and as andre was getting paid a fortune for the match he couldn't do the movie at first . Luckily the match got cancelled and andre was able to do the role which is great because andre has been the directors first choice all along and no one else could fill his boots with that role
This scene is so funny. I love how Fezzik is so genuine and sweet for a giant. Just imagine if he had the skill of Inigo and the brains of Westley. That whole castle guard would be in big trouble...emphasis on the big. I love the music with the actions helping Westley move his head. It just fits so well. What a masterpiece of a movie. Rest in peace, Andre.
Andre the Giant was such a treasure in this movie. What a lovely soul in this movie.
God, they are just the best three amigos. They are so good, so fun, and have so much chemistry together.
0:11 I think HERE is when Andre let out the 16 seconds fart.
Director: "Are you all right, André?"
André: "I am now, boss"
@@andreaspooky6183 When I first read that, I entirely missed the comma. I thought Andre was asserting his dominance over the director.
@@metroplexprime9901 y'all gonna make me cry laughing XDd
@@metroplexprime9901 That is exactly what I thought he meant all along.
Which would have been a brilliant response..!
@@treefields3660 During the making of the film and this scene there's an outtake where Andre let out an epic fart.
Andre nods Westly's head for him at the end hahaha
Ha ha ha! It is spelled “Westley.” Also yeah!!!
The way his hair is ruffled up while Andre holds his head
The first time they shot this, Andre didn't get through his first line before he let out the longest fart anyone on set had every heard. After a stunned silence, the director asked, "you okay Andre?' He replied 'I am now, boss.'
🤣🤣🤣
I just lost it when Andre had to keep helping Wesley keep his head straight. Wouldn't be surprised if this caused a lot of laughs on set
Andre is friggin adorable.

MOVIE
EVER
How did he maintain a straight face while Andre was nodding his head for him? That's some serious acting craft right there.
that was actually cary’s idea! he asked rob reiner if andré could move his head around like a marionette, which rob liked so much that he made it part of the scene!
That head roll that Westley does at 1:12 makes me lose it every single time.
Andre the Giant is just precious in this movie. Also he breaks rocks.
I love how Inigo sucks at math and needs to finger count but somehow when he does a quick approximate that somehow is super accurate, he can get the number 60 in 2 seconds
Princess bride is so incredible ! One of the best movies of all time !♡
Does anyone else find it really tragic what happened to Westley? He was a farm boy who was in love and a pirate took him from that. And he suffers so much because of the path he was forced down. It’s so sad.
He wasn’t forced down it; he “left to find his fortune“. He brought it upon himself
@@EATSLEEPDRIVE2002 He did it for love and adventure, then got the girl in the end. True hero style, and worthy of bringing on oneself.
@@LandersWorkshop He reminds me of Zorro or those old dudes in the Secondhand Lion. Probably what his pirating looked like lol
@LandersWorkshop This is insanely well-put.
I found it tragic too
Like, the only reason he left Florin and Buttercup was to try and make enough money to pay for their wedding. And he was captured by pirates, probably forced to do some unspeakable things just to keep himself alive all in the hopes of finding Buttercup again and when he finally comes back to her she's forcefully engaged to someone else
Then he is tortured to death by the same guy who stole his love and when brought back hes basically paralyzed. For someone as strong and ill say indepedent as Westlry to have to be carried around like a baby must be so humiliating.
At least he got his happy ending
What's funny is he is practically paralysed which is serious, but all these non- serious comments, lesser priorities and body motions like Westleys head flopping makes it funny to watch. I mean they are worried about a wheelbarrow and an holocaust cloak I mean this man needs serious medical intervention asap.
He's already had the serious medical intervention. Its the reason he's conscious and not dead.
@@233Deadman

Well considering less than an hour ago he was mostly dead and now he mostly limp and he should get back to normal before tomorrow physically considering they paid for a miracle. Wish we could get that guy.
They dynamic that these 3 had in this movie is what makes the whole movie for me.
This movie is the best.
Truly a masterpiece.
Fezzik DOES seem like a gentle giant
"Let me explain, no let me sum up" this is how I explain things at work now
Sure you do
Man, this movie's just too precious.
"I've always been a quick healer."
So...has he done this before?
Well he was a pirate captain...so I imagine he has been mortally hurt before.
Also, he built up an immunity to iocaine powder. I'm sure it knocked him out once or twice.
Probably meant he'd always recovered quickly from injury or illness before
The other Three Amigos! Fezzik, Westley and Inigo!!
Those 3 had such great chemistry together. I could watch an entire movie of them on a road trip.
"Let me explain... no, there is to much. Let me Sum up." Isn't that more or less the same thing?
Remoniq Explaining would include extraneous details, like “you fought us a while ago, but you can trust us now,” and “there’s a six-fingered man I have to kill” and “how was being mostly dead by the way? I’m curious.”
Also he just said he needs to kill count rugen
Unlike most of the movie where he said "i must have revenge on the six fingered man who killed my father when i was a child and left scars on my face"
You can see he really did sum up
Andre, you may have had a cruelly short life, but you were in The Princess Bride. The freaking PRINCESS BRIDE! That means, in a way, you'll live forever.
0:27 "Let me splain... No there is too much. Let me sum up."

When you have a lot of stuff to do and not much time to do it
Andre was the true star of this movie. I honestly think he had some of the best one liners throughout the movie.
And funnily enough he nearly didn't do the role. When they first tried to get andre to do it he was scheduled to do a wrestling match in japan in which would conflict with filming and as andre was getting paid a fortune for the match he couldn't do the filming. Luckily the match got cancelled and andre did the role which was excellent as he had been the directors first choice for the role from the start and no one else could really fill andres boots
“Inigo! I hope we win!”
“Let me explain... never mind there’s too much, let me sum up...” LMAOOO
I have used "Don't call me Shirley" at work. I am waiting for the right moment to use "Let me 'splain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up." Then I can retire.

valar they were measured to be the same size as a gorilla’s
I'll bet they had a lot of fun making this movie. I know if I'd been behind the camera, I'd be fired for laughing too loudly!
When they filmed the Miracle Max sequence, the director, Rob Reiner, moved to a different room for fear of ruining the the takes. Mandy Patinkin (Inigo) bruised his ribs from holding in laughter during the same scene.
Carey Elwes wrote a book about the filming of the movie. In one scene he describes an epic fart, of several minutes, by Andre. Reiner asked him if he was okay. He said he felt much better.
"That's hardly common knowledge is it."
Every line is so well crafted, unique, and clever its insane. Plus the delivery of the actors.
