This is a very thorough, clear and concise comparison. It's great! It helped me understand the difference between the Aeron my relative has (2013) and the one I was being sold this year. Just received my Aeron Remastered today! Thank you BTOD
This is an INCREDIBLY well made video...thorough, concise and detailed with great side-by-side examples, clearly showing the difference and the pros and cons. Kudos. Well done
I've had my Aeron for ~ 20 years now and have replaced almost every part in it over time from standard wear and tear. I wanted to offer a little insight into why I think the foam may have been removed from the front. About every 7-8 years I have to replace the seat pan because that foam breaks down and starts disintegrating making a constant mess falling on the floor, and it no longer performs its job. It looks like the redesign more than corrects this issue. I wonder if I can bolt the new pan onto the old frame, franken-chair, best of both worlds.... We shall see.
I know chair size is the biggest question people have as it can be a struggle to find a HM dealer to test out before purchasing. I am 6' and approx 175lbs and am not a "big" guy whatsoever, more on the lanky side of the spectrum. The size C chair fits me great. Based on the size chart from HM I fall more on the B size than C but I've tested both sizes out and the C is a much better fit. I still recommend you go and test out a chair before purchasing, but if you can't and you fall in between the B and C size, the size C MIGHT be the better option.
@@btodtv I will note that I do have fairly long legs and may contribute to why the size C chair fits me best. I have used the size B chair at my work and found that the side edges on the seat were digging into the sides of my legs. Again, please try to find a HM retailer to test out before purchasing. Everyone's bodies are different and what works for one person can be different for someone else. Great content BTOD!! Very informative and excellent demonstrations of how these chairs operate.
I have a classic. I like to work sitting in the forward tilt position. The comparison of the upright position is spot on in the difference between the two versions. I could not for the life of me understand why people said this chair is the best. I always had upper back pain because of the upper back support. You're the only one that talked about this and noticed it. I was complaining to my wife what a stupid chair and design because of it. I wasted so much time adjusting this chair to make it work for me. For you forward-tilt working folks out there. Remastered is the one that will work for you. I’m glad they addressed this with the remastered version. Great comparison buddy!
The 3 position tilt lock is almost a breaker for me. I really liked the customization of the classic. I wish I could tell if I'd like where the predetermined locks sit.
@@rafaelclp in the meantime I found an old classic that I replaced the arm rests and got a headrest. I'm loving it. The seat may be getting a little loose but I'm not touching the piston yet. Going to hold out as long as I can on that. Overall I'm under $500 so not too bad and it's been very comfortable.
I agree on most stuff you talked about. But it needs to be included that you can't cross a leg which a lot of people do. Reason is the hard plastic on the side of your thighs wont allow it
@@coldblackice on both. I like to prop my foot on my other leg, but very hard to do with the plastic sides of the seat. They are made that way to keep your legs pointing straight
there is no difference in the seat pan, back or design as far as "comfort" goes. the old chair vs the new chair sits the same. the main difference in the remastered version is; the pellicle mesh is a tighter weave. they claim it will reduce the mesh from shaving your clothes off. yes they did that. also to note, the chair is much more plastic and metal components were removed/swapped for plastic. the lumbar was changed slightly, the arms changed slightly. the price changed greatly. i repair these and buy them and work for a herman miller dealer.
There is certainly a difference in comfort due to the design change in the seat. The remastered did away with the front seat pad which many people find to be uncomfortable. They changed the angle at which the seat sits so that the remastered is easier to use in forward positions and they also changed the tilt to allow you to sit upright and not at a forced recline like the Classic. -RB
i bought a used 10yr old Aeron 2 yr back, now still in good condition. My best investment for a chair. My previous chair was a DXracer, last only over a year & it started to peel badly & the left armrest came loose, couldnt lock into height. Threw it away.
Great video! I have a remastered one and love it! I recently just bought a classic for home use and it's not going to work for me. As stated in the video, the remastered has that pitch forward that makes a huge difference. The overall chair just feels so much more comfortable.
I have a Classic and a Remastered, actually, and I prefer the approach of the Classic with reclining. For background, I keep my Classic at the desk with my desktop where I spend most of my time, work, play games, video call, watch all my shows, and use all of it's many of the chairs features on daily basis, and the Remastered at the office desk where I tend to go with a laptop to eliminate distractions when I need to focus on writing something for work, where I keep the chair in the forward locked position (which is way better on that one, you're right about the cushion thing). You probably can see it coming, but not having the infinite lock really is a deal breaker for a chair I do that much stuff in. It's not just that either, this is probably more surprising, but I prefer the unbalanced lean. I don't think it was a design accident. If I'm letting it recline, why shouldn't it? Since I can lock it in any position, it reclines me, and it reclines to where I want it. Working the controls of this chair are like second nature to me now, too. Just balancing in place in a specific reclined position, it's fine, but it makes me feel restless. I need to feel more secure than that, for me it's more comfortable to be sitting on restricted (but not really, you can just turn them off and on again to readjust), locked, chair. The more I type it the more it sounds very particular to me, but, well I know lots of people like to tuck the blankets under their legs, right? It's similar to that. Preferring to have a physical limitation over freedom of movement gives more comfort sometimes. I'm a pretty restless guy, I got ADD too. One last thing though. I understand that the balanced/unbalanced lean is probably pretty subjective, but one thing I don't understand and seems like a pretty unambiguous downgrade is the locking positions. I think they thought because they have the balanced lean they don't need it, but I disagree. Who cares if it's an extra cost. It's a flagship chair.
Heh. Yeah. That crease up front is a leg number. I use a throw blanket on my seat which solved it. Also saves my pants from pellicle abrasion since I shift around a lot. Definitely prefer the floaty / locked feel of the classic especially when reading or simply relaxing. The new one feels more like a regular chair and doesn't feel like a cross between a task chair and a comfort chair like the classic does.
The Classic is generally best IMO. Better adjustment options… better lumbar support options… everything else is roughly the same… however it does take a lot of effort to adjust the tension on the classic but that also speaks to how adjustable it actually is.
The Classics tension isn’t more difficult to adjust because it is more adjustable. It is just an inferior system to the remastered, which is why it is more difficult to use. The remastered does the same task much more efficiently. -RB
Not being able to adjust the arms depth is a deal breaker for me, i can't stand those forward armrests of the classic. Can't get close to desk if the armrests are level with the table.
The mesh on the remastered Aeron feels much stiffer and harder than the classic because it's almost wire-like. It took me over a year to get used to it. The mesh on the classic feels more plush as each threading is wider and feels more fabric-like.
I have a Remastered version and agree with you on that the mesh is harder than on the Classic one which I also had. After a year what is your opinion? Does the mesh got loosen a bit? thanks
@@nagychriss The thigh area in the front is still stiff but the center of it feels more cushy now after a year of sitting. Either that or I've gotten used to the firmness of it.
Thank you so much for the in depth comparison! Your video was incredibly helpful! I have been working on getting a long term home office setup and have chronic back pain, so all of the information you provide was very insightful
Had the original for 12 years and it was still perfect. Bought the remastered one in 2017 and it's not holding up anywhere near as well, with the mesh disintegrating and needing replacement already.
Incredible review. I just ordered a chair, I don't know if it was remastered or classic, I'm assuming it was the remastered. I hope it was the remastered because I prefer a more upright sitting. Great review thanks!!
Get the HAG CAPISCO PULSE. I have both and it is far better for posture and scapilar tendonitis issues. Aeron crippled my scaplar after 7 years of using it. It rests all the pressure on the scapular. That chair ruined my life.
Would y’all please consider a “best mesh bottom” category? I’d like to find something that doesn’t hurt the legs and will last long without sagging but the aeron is considerably out of my budget
I tried the embody for some time and ultimately sent it back. I haven't found a task chair that beats the aeron. I prefer the classic floaty feel and use the tilt lock all the time. Also, I've only ever seen one broken aeron in my life and that was because adult children were crashing into each other office jousting.
For those that have Aeron Classic, when you sit do you feel that you slip with the different fabric of your pants, shorts? this is a very big issue for me using this chair for home office.
Can anyone tell me ... I have a classic, bought used, but it doesnt have a recline locking mechanism, which I find strange. I have just one toggle for the height, that's it. Did they make a version that never locks? Or is this something I should try to replace.
I am about to buy an aeron remastered, but i can only get it with fixed Posture fit. What is the main difference of the fixed posturefit vs posturefit SL and is it still worth it?
Classic is superior. the build quality of the newer ones are inferior compared to the classics due to HM lowering cost of production. Infinity tilt is unbeatable
They are expensive, but with so many of these chairs holding up well over 20+ years, you can tell they are worth it with their build quality being so high -GK
I love both but my only issue with the classic size b was the cushioning on the front lip kept pinching my lower thigh and it was a pain couldn’t sit more than an hour on it without my legs going numb loool
Yes, it is actually easier to rock in the forward tilt position. When in the standard position it kinda wants to stay there. Leaning back takes no effort, unlike the classic sitting up straight also takes no effort.
I want a chair that I can sit in for 8 hours a day, and has a head rest. I've been looking for used leather executive chairs that lawyers and judges use, those really nice ones with the chesterfield leather pattern. But now I am considering a Herman Miller re-mastered from your videos comparing it to Steecase. I thought Steelcase was going to be the most comfortable but your video changed my mind when compared. What do you recommend? And what is the best chair ever?
keep in mind there is a really good aftermarket headrest for aerons. I believe it's called the Atlas headrest. it's 180 dollars but great quality from what I've heard. They released a new one for the remastered aerons.

I seriously need some help, I've moved from a secretlab titan chair, I'm a soft dev and i sit down more than 8 hours a day. My back would still hurt with the Titan, so I thought I'd buy an aeron, but my back still hurts, (middle corners of my back) and I don't know why.
We've made attempts in the studio to remove the arms on the remastered without ultimately breaking the system. Not great luck so far. We need to send it back to the refurb department and have them take a look -GK
BTOD.com not to be a cynic, but by redesigning in this way, it may allow HM to phase out replacement parts for the classic and impact the secondary market - resulting in more people to buy new.
Where would I see what size my Aeron is? It's a very old one with the dials to adjust armrest height, the sticker on the underside of the base says Rev:E. It also has leather stitched armrests, was this an option when ordering new?
There's also an additional button on the classic, next to the tilt lock, to allow the base to tilt forward when getting up. I don't think that button was covered
Excellent review! Classic is a piece of furniture. The Remastered is a glorified copy with cheaper china parts. Of course you need to sell the new ones as the old ones are not sold anymore. So naturally, the newer one took the price. I have a feeling the classic will go up in value.

Any difference in the tone or pitch or audible volume of farts?
Excellent video, thanks for helping.
I seriously need some help, I've moved from a secretlab titan chair, I'm a soft dev and i sit down more than 8 hours a day. My back would still hurt with the Titan, so I thought I'd buy an aeron, but my back still hurts, (middle corners of my back) and I don't know why.
Great video, guys! Thanks so much!
My question is if this chair worth the money? since it's a super expensive chair to me, $2400 CAD after tax.
Is it possible to swap the depth-adjustable arms of the Remastered and put it on a Classic?
We've made attempts in the studio to remove the arms on the remastered without ultimately breaking the system. Not great luck so far. We need to send it back to the refurb department and have them take a look -GK
BTOD.com not to be a cynic, but by redesigning in this way, it may allow HM to phase out replacement parts for the classic and impact the secondary market - resulting in more people to buy new.
Great comparison!
Thanks! -GK
Any option for a softer seat? It’s. A bit stiff.
What are the color options for the Aeron Classic?
is there a service to install a tilt forward/backward limiter on a used remastered aeron?
you could buy it separately
Thank you! A very helpful review
We're glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching! -TK
Hey Ryan, can I put the new posture-fit back support on a classic Aeron?
Are there any sales or discounts that Herman Miller offers for the Aeron or Embody?
Thank you!
You're welcome! -GK
Incredible video thank you so much.
Who is the music by in this video? Who is the musical artist? I would like to find this track.
I thought Doug start reviewing aeron
chair : )
Excellent review! Classic is a piece of furniture. The Remastered is a glorified copy with cheaper china parts. Of course you need to sell the new ones as the old ones are not sold anymore. So naturally, the newer one took the price. I have a feeling the classic will go up in value.
Briliant comparison
Thank you -GK
this hair have 3 type of leg? as nylon leg , steel leg and alloy leg ?
thank you for the insight
The best drafting chair I ever had.
Excellent video. Really appreciate the attention to detail in the differences
Can the Classic use the Remastered adjustable back support?
They seem to have a similar setup.
i do not think so, the chair looks a tad wider.
For some reason, I keep sliding forward on the classic version? How can I fix this issue? Any suggestions would help! Thank you.
Do you have the forward tilt function lever up? ua-cam.com/video/nYnFkdsZnmE/v-deo.html NL
