    Just a thought could you not ask the chap who is dismantling the current sheds and taking them away to collect yours from the plot and bring it to the homestead? He must have a large vehicle if he is removing & taking away the current structures? He may be grateful for some extra funds and willing to help. Glad that you are feeling a tad better. Take care of you 🙂and everything will come together in time, you have done amazing building your new life back home it is wonderful to share your journey. Thank you for sharing!

    You can buy a fly screen for the door, and it has magnets in the middle, where the two curtains meet, so you and the cats can go in and out, and it will close itself. They are not very expensive, and I have one which works really well, and lets the light in too. xxx

    Very pleased if you are feeling a bit better Sean! I had ME for many years and found the hardest thing is that when one feels better one hopes to lead a normal life: that works for a bit but then it proves too much and another relapse occurs. I was always overly optimistic about what I could do. In the light of that I would beg you not to get any hens or livestock for your homestead: if you feel ill for a bit you will still need to get down each day to see to them morning and night and it will be a nightmare both for you and for them. The stress and worry would make it even harder for you to recover. Buy good eggs from others and just enjoy the growing on the homestead when you are able:)

    • @mingbop
      @mingbop 4 місяці тому

      @1Sweffling how did you recover? I've had ME for 20 years and know the relapsing thing well :)

      @@mingbop Hi, I am sorry you are dealing with this too. I am not sure whether I am completely healed but it does not bother me in the way it used to! I must begin by saying that everyone is different so what helped me might not be as good for you. What I did was concentrate firstly on strengthening my mitochondria since they are the energy factories of the body. I did this by dietary means and conserving my energy levels as much as possible but still doing gentle walking. I gave up alcohol, fruit, gluten, dairy, all sugars (including those hidden in processed foods) and took supplements of magnesium, Vit D, and the B vitamins. I also ate organic liver every day for about a year since as well as the full spectrum of Vit B Vits in the correct proportions for the human body it also contains a specific anti-stress component. I tried to reduce inflammation in my body by taking omega 3 and giving up high omega 6 foods. I ate a lot of oily fish. I was very surprised at the emotional reaction I had to giving up these foods: I became really distressed, partly because I felt left out at social functions and partly because they made life worth living! However I was desperate and stuck to it. Nowadays I try to stick to this way of eating 80% of the time and indulge myself from time to time on special occasions with no obvious ill effects. But for me, the strict protocol for a few years worked wonders. Now i have also introduced some intermittent fasting occasionally which also seems to suit me but I would not have been strong enough to do that when I was ill. Good luck, hope this helps.

    How about shifting the screws on the box instead of replacing the chain?

    • @lorellstoneman74
      @lorellstoneman74 4 місяці тому

      It appears there is a kink in one chain on your box lid....If you undo the bottom screw on that kinked chain then test the lid to see if it opens right...if it opens all the way...take the kink out and put the screw back without kinking it again and poofa maybe that's all it is....

    Hi....if you fix the curtain on the outside of the door frame it won't get squished or torn when you close the door! Also re flies... if you tie a bunch of strong mint together n hang it just inside doorway....it will act as a deterant...
    I remember that exact style 'ribbon curtain' being used from 1960's onwards. Just goes t show that some 'classic' items ( even when so simple) are still in use! As the original design so good that still effective!

    Hey Sean! Glad to see you back at it. My hubby is up in Wales this weekend at a Piper's convention. He plays the Uillean pipes. The photos he sent me are gorgeous. I saw some beautiful blue sky! Also, if I may, I am the screen-queen. Having come from California, we are used to have screens to prevent flys and other unwanted flying things through the window. I figured out how to do the whole thing. Windows and doors. I use black screening (if you want videos,( you will see that when the screen is put up-the black is not noticeable, strangely!) and magnets that have a sticky side. You measure out doors and windows, get your screen and enough magnets to frame your window and Bob's your uncle! I'm literally putting mine up this weekend as Poulton Le Fylde has a bit of a heat wave and the dog and cat are melting. Let me know if you want to know more about them. Quite reasonable from Amazon. And of course, you don't have to put them on all windows and doors, just the ones you use. Good luck to you!

    I've seen these new houses where the whole back wall of the house are windows that slide open to reveal the kitchen etc and my first thought was omg how many flies and wasps will be buzzing around !! we open the door for our cat to come in and I swear 10 flies come with him. My Aunty Alice in Yorkshire had that wall of plastic, brought back memories, they had a huge vegetable garden and green house, we ate like kings at their house. My Grandma owned a shop which she opened the front room and bought the house next door and knocked through to make the shop front, so we never had to worry about food. Can you imagine been able to do that today lol this was during the second world war. ( imagine a row of houses, about 30 of them and in the middle a shop ) think of Coronation street but longer. My Canadian husband can't get over that the front door opens on to the street lol. edit: The town is Bolton-on Dearne South Yorkshire

My mum used to hang long sticky brown paper strips from the ceiling . They would collect hundreds of flies and do the job but looked quite disgusting after a day or so. LOL. That brought back a memory to me.

    I have a great many flies during the summer where I live. The last few summers I haven't bothered with any remedy and really regretted my action when working outside. I've returned to a solution which has worked very well in the past. Here we have a nontoxic packet which dissolves in water within a container, and you hang up the container which is open to admit flies who can't get out afterwards. Smells horrible so you have to hang in the shade near the house but not inside or near the house, and it works like a charm. I also got a nontoxic small bug light with replaceable sticky shield to trap very small insects because they are somehow getting inside despite window/door screens. They're teeny tiny and buzz around my head while on computer at night. Both seem to be working well.

    Sean,
    The early homestead pioneers in the USA, had barn raising parties.
    What about a shed raising party?
    You provide BBQ, beers (afterwards), tea, coffee snacks and the sausages, burgers and buns for the BBQ.
    Your friends bring themselves and their tools, and in one day put down those plastic gravel things for the shed standing and raise the shed. Be generous with the hospitality, perhaps some partners of shed raises may help you to cater, but don't ask them to bring cakes etc as they are building your shed!
    Shed build during the day, bit of a BBQ party at night. You will then lose the worry and have your shed built. You never know, they might even be able to bring from the old site if there are enough of them. You can spend the £100. 00 on the hospitality then.
    I have seen this work really well. The only time it backfired that I have seen was at a house painting party where the hosts provided minimal tea and coffee and just 2 packets of biscuits, cheap ones, and then expected everyone to help themselves instead of making the beverages and offering round. Mean! Creates bad feeling!
    I bet you have loads of friends in your village.

    Could I make a suggestion for part of your Homestead, which looks enormous. The area right at the bottom where you’re planning on putting the shed, why not make that into your own garden, laid mainly to lawn with flower boarders. Yes you’ll,need to cut the grass but that’s a doddle compared to the ongoing slog of veg planting, care, weeding and harvesting. It will be a lovely place to sit with a cuppa tea and a Welsh cake or two and hopefully the Cats. By making this area entirely for leisure you’ll be reducing the amount of heavy work. You have so much land to grow everything you need or want. Food for thought? Hope you get your energy back very soon 👍🏻🌷🌾 good luck with the shed.

    Why don't you see if there is an old fashioned milk man who delivers in your area Sean...? Maybe that would be helpful for you, especially oon the occaisions when you are 'under the weather'...just a thought.

    You are like my sister, her house is stuffed, she has two sheds and a 20 foot sea container stuffed full, and she keeps finding stuff that she just has to buy because it is to good to leave for someone else to buy!

    In US the trend was orange or green plastic beads on string hanging between doorways. A 70s color scheme.

    So glad to hear you're feeling better Sean. I know how you feel about wanting to get the homestead tidied, as I took over a house with a garden and orchard last year that was very overgrown, then also sustained a lot of damage due to storm Ciaran. It stressed me out as I am a mature lady on my own. However, 10 months later, doing a bit when I can, both areas are now blooming. Take it easy Sean, the homestead is not going anywhere, it will wait until you're ready. Slow and steady wins the race 🌺🐝🧑🏻‍🌾

    So pleased to see you’re up and about Sean. I’ve had a cough and a cold for a week now it’s drove me to nutsville 😂😂😂
    The Homestead is a project of “years” so agreed that taking it slowly is the best way.
    Have a super lovely weekend, from the two old farts over here on wet and windy Lincolnshire ❤

    You may want to wait until the owner finishes clearing sheds ect. at Rusty Homested, to move your shed...and if the owner has a vehicle, and help to move his sheds, maybe you can make a deal with him to haul your shed.....The Universe may be telling you....this may be a great time for you to recoup, and work on your cottage garden. You could do pots of veggys for fall crops at home, a pot a day or so. Even if it's just laying down a bag of potting soil... once a week or so....cutting a few drain holes...and holes on top for plants or seeds with holes in top of bag cats cant dig in it. You could plant a lot of eatables that way......Bush peas dont need much of a trellis...put them where you can pick easily. Easy peasy. And next year you can put the bags of soil in your garden beds. To clear them away. Once your allotment area is set up.
