Mrs. Wayman is actually the same in "real life" as she was at this Ted Talk.. every day she spoke just like this on the loudspeaker and she could be heard saying, "so what now what" just about every day. She ended every day with this announcement, "If no one has told you today that they love you, know that I do." As an educator who has had many principals in my years of teaching.. Mrs. Wayman is incomparable.

Mrs. Cliatt- Wayman is a true leader. I came across one of her other videos this weekend on a different Social Media site and since then, have been watching more as I find them. I am truly fascinated and impressed with how she carries herself. People like her are who we need in our Public School, Government, and all other leadership positions around the nation and the world. I wish I could work for her!

Vaping Moderation You are so right. I am reading these comments understanding that the majority have no idea of the context. She is 100% with her students everyday advocating for them. She is the real deal. There is nothing fake about her love for them. She walks her talk EVERYDAY.

Wow!!!...I like how she's wearing that dress as a form of school pride towards Strawberry Mansion and not to mention, Pink is the universal symbol for love and I think the outfit represents her unconditional love and understanding towards herself and students...Hope she continues to be a great leader and inspire others!..:)

The tears I shed watching this empathize with those students for I was one of them. They commend Mrs. Wayman for her leadership, tenacity, and raw passion. Most of all, they glorify God for the poverty, hardships, and generational strongholds I was born into but liberated from. I salute all educators-past, present, and future. Your work is unparalleled.

Leaders of Education have been undermined for far too long. It is time we recognize the amazing job those Leaders and Teachers do. As a latina woman who also grew up in North Philadelphia's poorest neighborhoods, this is one of the most educational and informal Ted Talk videos I have watched! Linda Cliatt-Wayman, you deserve every Reward you have earned!

  • @stacielyn6023
    @stacielyn6023 8 років тому +65

Amazing! Teaching is a ministry and it's rewards are great for those of us that see children as people not procedures.

  • @NupeDaddy

I'm a product of the Philadelphia School system as well. And while I did not grow up in North Philly, I did find myself in school there once. We had a low-performing and persistently dangerous school in my neighborhood. Fortunately, I had parents at home, and some nosey neighbors, that weren't going to let me fall victim to lack of effort and excuses. I know the power of which Linda speaks, however, it also needs to come from the parents and surrounding community too. Any and every bit of positive intent and energy (the biggest of which is love) makes a difference.
    Keep on, keepin' on Linda.

I am a teacher here in Brazil; and only teacher like her can do any difference in student life. Here, in public school, rules in abundance low-performing and persistently dangerous. Only LOVE has the power to face it. Politicians and politics ruin the Brazilian public school. Corruptions and lack of agenda fat the ruin in Brazilian Education. I repeat, only Love for people, for student can save someone here.Only LOVE of teachers like that one. Congratulations!

The smartest out of all the things she is doing is saying that they are all loved. Often times, those who act out and rebel is because they feel they are unloved and unnoticed and feeling alone does serious harm to the brain.
It is a risky thing, though. If you make them feel all loved, the school will improve. But if you accidentally leave some out, you will destroy it. For example, the sports kids at my school are reminded constantly that they are loved and they will do great things. But with the exception of the best teachers in the school, nobody else is told that, not even the staff. They are making things tougher for the music teachers and offering them a better job somewhere else so they can get rid of the music department, which they have shown strongly to those kids that they only love during half time at a football game. They are destroying the art department, leaving only one teacher to handle all the classes so she will either be forced to get rid of numerous art classes or leave the school. The math and foreign language departments get more budget cuts than any other academic department.
If you don't love ALL your students and ALL your staff, you will destroy the school instead of save it.

I cannot stop watching this. It is inspiring and truthful; her raw emotion is powerful. There is so much we can do, we just have to do it and be passionate about it. Her slogans are what I try to do daily. Our kids DESERVE so much, and we need to give them that.
"If nobody told you I love you today, remember I do, and I always will"
One of my new favorite quotes.

Working with special education students in California, I have seen time after time that students want to be understood and have someone believe in them. I have also worked with the medical field first hand with patient care, adults and children just want someones time and a good listener. It breaks my heart hearing their stories and current circumstances. At times leaving me speech less or in search for positive outcomes. I know I do the best I can, with all my heart and positive mind. I want to thank you for all you do, it has been inspiring. This video has put words to my thoughts. You are truly a role model, keep shining. Empowering others is the only way, we help others achieve their full potential.

We need more people like her. So many people who work in schools don't even care about true education. Just money, tests, and that BS. We need people who care about kids and teens, and who want the best for them, in all schools. Less punishment, more love.

... not ONLY is she a truly inspiring and courageous leader, she shows just why so many schools *are not schools*
The example of one strong leader shows up the poor leaders...
