Mrs. Wayman is actually the same in "real life" as she was at this Ted Talk.. every day she spoke just like this on the loudspeaker and she could be heard saying, "so what now what" just about every day. She ended every day with this announcement, "If no one has told you today that they love you, know that I do." As an educator who has had many principals in my years of teaching.. Mrs. Wayman is incomparable.
Mrs. Cliatt- Wayman is a true leader. I came across one of her other videos this weekend on a different Social Media site and since then, have been watching more as I find them. I am truly fascinated and impressed with how she carries herself. People like her are who we need in our Public School, Government, and all other leadership positions around the nation and the world. I wish I could work for her!
Vaping Moderation You are so right. I am reading these comments understanding that the majority have no idea of the context. She is 100% with her students everyday advocating for them. She is the real deal. There is nothing fake about her love for them. She walks her talk EVERYDAY.
Wow!!!...I like how she's wearing that dress as a form of school pride towards Strawberry Mansion and not to mention, Pink is the universal symbol for love and I think the outfit represents her unconditional love and understanding towards herself and students...Hope she continues to be a great leader and inspire others!..:)

This has to be one of the best videos on UA-cam, this woman is a saint. I felt compelled to share the video because 100k views does not give this justice. We are all so lucky this woman lives on this planet and in America of all places, amazing.
Blaise Marak the other full video on the news was sad when this girl was getting graduated and she was applying for a school and she didn't have the money to go to her new school and the Principal👍 went in tears and I was about to cry to it was about550$
I was assigned to watch this talk for my Doctoral class, I cried, thank you Linda Cliatt-Wayman for being such an amazing person. The world needs more Linda.
The tears I shed watching this empathize with those students for I was one of them. They commend Mrs. Wayman for her leadership, tenacity, and raw passion. Most of all, they glorify God for the poverty, hardships, and generational strongholds I was born into but liberated from. I salute all educators-past, present, and future. Your work is unparalleled.
This is one awesome principal...and I can relate.....raised poor my dad brought us to the greatest country in the world America, to this day he and my mother can hardly speak english yet they told us to learn, respect teachers work hard, education is the key....that is the way
Leaders of Education have been undermined for far too long. It is time we recognize the amazing job those Leaders and Teachers do. As a latina woman who also grew up in North Philadelphia's poorest neighborhoods, this is one of the most educational and informal Ted Talk videos I have watched! Linda Cliatt-Wayman, you deserve every Reward you have earned!
I'm a product of the Philadelphia School system as well. And while I did not grow up in North Philly, I did find myself in school there once. We had a low-performing and persistently dangerous school in my neighborhood. Fortunately, I had parents at home, and some nosey neighbors, that weren't going to let me fall victim to lack of effort and excuses. I know the power of which Linda speaks, however, it also needs to come from the parents and surrounding community too. Any and every bit of positive intent and energy (the biggest of which is love) makes a difference. Keep on, keepin' on Linda.
I am a teacher here in Brazil; and only teacher like her can do any difference in student life. Here, in public school, rules in abundance low-performing and persistently dangerous. Only LOVE has the power to face it. Politicians and politics ruin the Brazilian public school. Corruptions and lack of agenda fat the ruin in Brazilian Education. I repeat, only Love for people, for student can save someone here.Only LOVE of teachers like that one. Congratulations!
I'm a high school student and I really belive in what she is saying! I belive we can fix all the schools, not only in USA, we can fix them in all the world! I'm a high school student, and I love watching this type of videos, I love dreaming how my school can be fixed... I'm a mexican girl, who tries everything to make everything better in my school, everything that I can do... This, Is so inspirating!

The smartest out of all the things she is doing is saying that they are all loved. Often times, those who act out and rebel is because they feel they are unloved and unnoticed and feeling alone does serious harm to the brain. It is a risky thing, though. If you make them feel all loved, the school will improve. But if you accidentally leave some out, you will destroy it. For example, the sports kids at my school are reminded constantly that they are loved and they will do great things. But with the exception of the best teachers in the school, nobody else is told that, not even the staff. They are making things tougher for the music teachers and offering them a better job somewhere else so they can get rid of the music department, which they have shown strongly to those kids that they only love during half time at a football game. They are destroying the art department, leaving only one teacher to handle all the classes so she will either be forced to get rid of numerous art classes or leave the school. The math and foreign language departments get more budget cuts than any other academic department. If you don't love ALL your students and ALL your staff, you will destroy the school instead of save it.
What a powerhouse of a woman, a leader. I found her from the book "I Really Needed This Today" by Hoda Kotb, page 98. Ms. Cliatt-Wayman, you have my highest respect!
My daily prayer is that every kid is showed loved bye some one, you showed those kids, more love then they ever had, keep on loving your students, you bought tears of joy to me, & I’m sure many others.
I cannot stop watching this. It is inspiring and truthful; her raw emotion is powerful. There is so much we can do, we just have to do it and be passionate about it. Her slogans are what I try to do daily. Our kids DESERVE so much, and we need to give them that. "If nobody told you I love you today, remember I do, and I always will" One of my new favorite quotes.
This woman is FANTASTIC and AMAZING!!!!!!!! Our schools needed more professionals like this. Ones that they believe in every child and gives them the opportunity to be what they want to be. Loving their students and trusting in them, that´s the key!!!!!! I love this!
My sister you are a blessing to the planet. May you continue to bless children. I grew up in that same neighborhood. Teachers like you were my bridge over the waters of education. Blessings!
Working with special education students in California, I have seen time after time that students want to be understood and have someone believe in them. I have also worked with the medical field first hand with patient care, adults and children just want someones time and a good listener. It breaks my heart hearing their stories and current circumstances. At times leaving me speech less or in search for positive outcomes. I know I do the best I can, with all my heart and positive mind. I want to thank you for all you do, it has been inspiring. This video has put words to my thoughts. You are truly a role model, keep shining. Empowering others is the only way, we help others achieve their full potential.
This is why I love being a teacher: contributing, alongside inspiring teachers and inspiring students, to the transformation of the world that presently is into the world that awaits us further ahead: where our humanity fully expresses itself and learns to heal this damaged planet. A great Talk.
Ms. Cliatt-Wayman is awesome! She put a tear in my eye. I am ready to join her army to change the face of education - student by student/ class by class. I support her!
Ms. Wayman you are a strong powerful woman. If know one has never told you this I am telling you. I am proud of you, I love you, and I wish we had more people like you in the world.
Nice >>> your tears are heavy on my heart , as a teacher i know that you done is difficult but you made the imposible is possible because you believe in yourself ... thank you (Ted - Linda)to share it with us
I cried and wanted to run to her and hug her. When the people applauded, I applauded too. 😢 (that’s a happy tears) 😊. I wished she my principal. God bless you Mrs. Wayman.
This reminds me of the movie"Lean On Me" starring Morgan Freeman. There should be a remake of this movie starring this woman and her school. I would definitely watch it. She really cares about students and there should be more principals like her out there.
wow , perfect example of when one's purpose and passion intersect . ... I hope that , eventually , one of my passions will align with whatever my purpose is & I can spew greatness

Wow....just wow. What a remarkable moving lady. If that does not inspire, nothing will. She is just what those children need because she gets it. She has lived as they did and only wants a better future for her students. A beautiful lady full of heart, feeling and passion for a better tomorrow.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! !!! I love you. Today your message has uplifted and inspired me to keep loving, believing, while walking in faith and trusting the consciousness of all and to call forth the consciousness that I am.
This woman is truly remarkable and a hero to many. She has done more for those kids than even she probably knows. I can't give her enough praise because she is simply outstanding. What an inspiration and role model
We need more LIndas in our world. Those who choose to criticise such an inspiring and courageous woman are poor souls, themselves in need of help. LINDA, KEEP GOING !!!
Wow! This is awesome! She sounds strong, but she has a strong countenance. Kids don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. As educators, we must believe in our students.
We need more people like her. So many people who work in schools don't even care about true education. Just money, tests, and that BS. We need people who care about kids and teens, and who want the best for them, in all schools. Less punishment, more love.
... not ONLY is she a truly inspiring and courageous leader, she shows just why so many schools *are not schools* The example of one strong leader shows up the poor leaders...

Why can't every person in the world just be a carbon copy of this blessid woman? God bless you! You are definitely what this world needs
***** You want every person in the world to talk about how amazing they are at caring about other people and give instructions through very vague emotional language? So, basically a politician?
+HamsterPants522 No, we'd rather have you; a depressed video game freak who contributes nothing to the world but negativity.
If every person was like her, then would we need her?
Because to create another human we need a male and a female human.
Skeletoaster u sound an prolly look fuckin dumb scumbag
I've always thought that examples of good leadership doesn't lie in the military, nor with politicians, but with teachers.
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

@malcolm this is so true.

I just realized that if we had a principal like this in every school, our public education would be fixed in the US.
Wow! This is awesome! She sounds strong, but she has a strong countenance. Kids don't care how much you know until they know how much you care. As educators, we must believe in our students.
