  • Larry Bird would average 40 ppg 13 rpg and 12 apg with today's rules I truly and realistically believe that...It's just nutts to me how people act like Bird wasn't the best small forward ever by far!!! Bird is underrated believe it or not...he was an innovator at the position in many ways but as the years go by people tend to forget or haven't done they're homework and just talk gibberish like Bird wouldn't average 35 pts 13 reb and 11 ast per game (year in year out) with these rules today come on....STOP IT! There are only a hand full of players today that would persevere under those old stressful conditions back when it was more for the love of the game than "The Bag" My Dudes Bird is a Basketball God of the highest power and don't you forget it!

Everyone talks about his MVP years and rightfully so, but for me, the true measure of Bird's greatness is this: in his last season, a 35-year-old Bird, with two reconstructed Achilles tendons and a back that required hospitalization and traction between games, averaged 20.2 points, 9.6 rebounds, and 6.8 assists and shot 47.8% from two, .40.6% from three, and 92.6% from the line in a league in which players actually played defense.

people that say that also don't understand that there is more to athleticism than jumping high and running fast. Hand Eye coordination for example is an "athletic" trait and Bobby Knight is on record that Larry Bird had probably the best Hand Eye coordination of all time. Balance is an athletic trait, flexibility, quickness, reflexes. Bird was more of an athlete than people give him credit for.

I've been watching the NBA since the early 70's and Larry Bird was the best I ever saw. As great as Dr. J and McAdoo and Cowens and Havilcek and Maravich were in the 70's, Bird was better. As good as Magic and Kareem and this sixers and the bad boys were in the 80's, Bird was better. The 90's is all Jordan with no real competition for him. Bird was someone who you wanted to go see play against the highest competition because win or loose, it was going to be a GREAT game. Bird rose the competition level against all the greats in the 80's and beat them. He is, in my opinion, the best all around player of all time.

Bird was one of the best of all time but without any doubt the best small forward of all time. Bird's shooting & IQ was unparalleled still today. 90% from the free throw line (career), an assassin, a finisher, a tactician, and just light it up all over the floor. Tough as nails, solid rebounded, & a great passer. Most impressive, Bird would tell you where he was going to shoot it from, but there wasn't a damn thing you can do about it. If you look up the word "NBA Small Forward", Larry Bird's picture & career highlights would define that position.

I agree man Bird was by far the best SF ever. People say Lebron is best player ever but he isn't even the best at his position. Bird did almost everything better than LeBron. Better shooter, better rebounder, better passer. As good of a defender too as Bird was a really good defender especially team defender and getting in passing lanes, double teams, etc. Bird one of the highest basketball IQs of all time and right there with guys like Jordan and Russell as far as the "obsession of winning" goes. Also obviously more clutch than Lebron but thats not some tiebreaker like Steven A talks about the "last two minutes". Bird is by far the superior player. Hunkmarvel Second let's address your Pippen and Bird statements. Bird didn't win a chip with out 2or 3 HOFers on his team any given year he did win. Period. Period.
Second the year Pippen came into the league he was not a contributed bruh he was the 7th or 8th man off the bench for the season and the playoffs. Horrace Grant was not even ready to start yet. He also came off the bench. Pippen was drafted in 87 did not start until 89 and was not an all-star until 91. The year the Bulls finally won a chip. The year Jordan got out the first round Pippen rookie year Pippen was not even the 6th man dude. Jordan won MVP The scoring Title and DPOY all in the same season. So it was a peak level Jordan that got his team out of the first round finally. Pippen never won a DPOY award NEVER. So what season was he ever the best defender in the league ? Yes Pippen contributed later into his career but he had to be groomed and developed into a all-star with the help of Jordan. Horace Grant also had to be developed with the help of Jordan. Bird had 3 allstars and 4 HOFers on his team from the time Jordan was drafted. So let's not act like Jordan was ever expected to beat that champion level veteran team his his first few years in the league on his own. Your argument is mute. Jordan's team never missed the playoffs that's all that matters. You talking about making the playoffs everybody knows Birds accomplishments in the league. are u trying to make the statement that Bird's accomplishments in the game of basketball are greater then Michael Jeffery Jordan. I know your not trying to push that agenda.

His game for the most part was "clean", rarely carrying the ball, no palming or walking or exra steps to make the shots. Rarely did he use his off hand to push the defender out of his way, a common tacket used by some "greats". He played within the rules. In a era were the game was still defensive minded. And he made his teammates better. I thank you for this video, one of the best on a truely gifted player. There were few better.

At the end of this marvelous some famous announcer asks some famous personality: “If you could have Larry Bird or LeBron James for 10 years, who would you choose??” He did not hesitate and said: “LARRY”!! I agree; Larry Bird is the greatest player ever to me. He had it all and was the most creative and amazing player that I have ever seen. He was fun to watch; he was never boring like modern players. He would not be interested in the GOAT talk because all he wanted was to be the best he could be and win basketball games. If he had played in today’s game he would dominate but I bet he wouldn’t do social media or waste his time talking politics. LARRY BIRD IS THE TRUTH!!

29 wins the year before Bird, 61 wins his rookie season. Pretty much the same returning roster, the main difference in the rosters was that the 29 win team had in his prime HOFer Bob McAdoo for 20 games (4 and 16).

Magic johnson was also not a great jumper or fast. They did not need to be

I have to take time to say this because there is enough trolling on social media, that when I'm impressed I have to give credit where it's do. The amount of respect, and appreciation i see from people in UA-cam comment sections makes me smile. When I see young players talk about the greatest players ever nowadays I rarely hear any of them mention Bird, and it makes me literally cringe. Kobe, and LeBron are the only 2 I've ever heard who have had Bird in their top 5. Sometimes, I see players lists and Bird isn't even on it. I mean, I'm serious.. Its like, hey young dudes, you just don't know. Bird would have wrecked you... You might want to check him out, and get some knowledge. Anyone else ever notice this with today's generation of players? I do all the time.
