Yes, kudos to the MOW team! They did respond much sooner than anticipated. Spikes and ballast should have it back soon! Great progress report Jason. Thx
Watching the way their trains creep over tracks that leave the cars rolling back and forth, ever closer to the tipping point, it is hard to believe that the management has ever even heard of the phrase "maintenance of way."
Lots of money lost when the track is down. Looks pretty good now. Those ties must have really been gone the way those spikes were popping out. Nice work Jason keep us posted on when the track is open again.
Since this is the famous screeching curve I wonder how it will sound after these repairs. To a-degree it doesn't look like a lot was accomplished. But hopefully it will hold its gauge and not become a big muddy sinkhole. Hopefully the rest of the rerailing will go smoothly so they can get another batch out of LP before the end of the week. There are four cars of chemicals NB for them but leaving Crivitz they left behind the 9 cars for Alter. Those poor signals have probably been on more in several days then they were all year. One can't help but wonder if there's a note Inside the Fire Department done in Seinfeld style." No cooling water for you"
Hey Jason !! If the contractor does the finish work on the rails,, Might be a good days work to spike ,ballast ,& tamp or if the RR finishes it,, Might take 3 more days to get it done as they ain't equipped to handle that much work at 1 time with the other RR issues at other spots !! Thanks for the updates & ""Stay Warm ""!!! 👍👍👍👍👍
The Maintenance of Way crew did an excellent job fixing the track. Thank you, Jason, for documenting the finished work. (POst on 10 December 2024 at 1331 CST.)
A big change.. looks like the original ties are now referred to as "mulch"... (Have seen that at the East Broad Top back when the Friends started rebuilding various track in the yard... and then had to replace some mulch under a switch in front of the station....)
Well I was wrong, when you originally posted this story I thought it was ribbon rail. But now that the snow is gone I can see its stick. But I was right about the replacement of some ties.
Do you have reason to believe that the maintenance crew would have been irritated with you there recording while they worked or was that decision just you being extra nice? That was generous of you either way, of course. Many of the railroad lines of Michigan have disappeared over the past few decades and we're missing them in some areas. Even with increased needs for freight transportation, those railroads aren't ever coming back so if this railroad company can keep it going, even if that means having to piecemeal repairs, then more power to them.
Those lights on awith the bell is a false activation and should be called in. It may be from the derailement, but why was that not adressed. It could also be salt on the crossing. They have to be changing more ties, i don't think spikefast will save the day! some wholes but not all.
Probably the crossing signal was activated by the train when it started on the signal circuit. As long as there is a car or engine on the approach circuit, about 1200 feet from the island circuit in the crossing, the signals will operate. Does the ELS have a crew to send to pull the cars back? Remember that at least one car is derailed. Probably someone with a key to the signal case and a modicum of knowledge could turn the signal off. But someone needs to reverse the process or the crossing will have to be flagged.
I don't know anything about your local railroad , but imagine their doing what they can to stay alive with the little resources they have. I think they deserve a tip of the hat with all things considered a good job.
2 to 3 days to finish the repairs..we had one big one near Oostburg reciently that was alot worse than that and they had the line up and running in 4 days..but that was Union Pacific.
Wow, i didn’t expect a “temporary” fix so soon, i mean, do you really think that’s the permanent fix or is that just a quick fix before ground freezes🤷♂️ Yeah, if I live next to those signals that been going off, I would with a pipe, shut them off! (The old pip trick on tracks) Thanks update 👍
The track is out of gauge under first car, (and car is completely blocking rail), they likely will have to move entire car away, or raise it up completely so it doesn't interfere setting track to proper gauge!!
Was tha section of additional rail inside the firestation side ( east side? ) of the tracks spiked down? Almost looks like it’s there to keep any possible future derailments from wandering so far outside the opposite rail. As for the “ screeching “ sound of trucks against rails, I doubt there will be any noise reduction. It’s a function of the curve radius & weight of rail cars isn’t it? A flange oiler might help, but would be really messy…. Thanks again for the videos Jason!!!🙃
Maybe if they work on the tracks on normal like the whole line green bay-upper Michigan. Yearly track updates maybe this won't as much?!! And what happen to engine 402? We have seen 401,503 in south part 502& 1221 in north?
Well they have to do a couple things to really finish it, it needs ballast poured in between the rails and long the sides, they can use a loader or a ballast car and then tamp the ties that brings the ties up into the new ballast a tamper car or done by hand with steel bars, then a Regulator car is used to finish the job, yeah they did a real fine job on that track,so far. Ya know why they hurried ...?
Thank you for recording what the MOW crew did. You have no need to put yourself in a spot where it could go sideways. So Wednesday, the line should be open again?
Yeah, that's why a lot of railroad men don't like us foamers. One of the shortlines here in Oklahoma will shew off people with taking video. It does seem like some people are just hoping for calamity to put on the inter web.
Your excuse for not filming, fails. You havevery righto video whatever you wish from any public place. Just never trespass. You can video discreetly from a distance.
@TylerDonitzen-k7n u missed my point entirerly thats not wat i was talkin bout i use to work for BN on the train we never snubbed anyone we always waved
I hope ELS sees this video and the respect you gave the men on way crew as it shows the passion you have for trains !!
Unlikely.
JASON ! SUPERB COVERAGE, SUPERB !!!!! THANKYOU GOOD SIR ! Keep up the great work as always.
Great comment about not filming the track repair. You're a gentleman!
Yes, kudos to the MOW team! They did respond much sooner than anticipated. Spikes and ballast should have it back soon! Great progress report Jason. Thx
Thanks for the compliment! I'm glad you liked the video.
Watching the way their trains creep over tracks that leave the cars rolling back and forth, ever closer to the tipping point, it is hard to believe that the management has ever even heard of the phrase "maintenance of way."
I was wondering the meaning of MOW. Thanks for sharing

Sure did get a lot done thanks Jason
Thanks for the update Jason, looks like progress to get the line back in. service...😎👍
Yeah... hopefully!
Thank you Jason - I was looking forward to an update today.
Glad to give you an update!
Now this is good record of a low speed derail and the repair needed
Since this is the famous screeching curve I wonder how it will sound after these repairs. To a-degree it doesn't look like a lot was accomplished. Thinking they might try today, we'll see..
They are getting proficient at repairing and replacing the rails. They’ve had a lot of practice at it lately 😂
Yep. And they did it again!
They did a lot of work, looking forward to the next adventure
Thanks for the update Jason. Really they need to replace all the rails and ties on that line
That's impressive. I didn't think they'd be that far along this soon.
I`m sure it will be done as cheaply as possible. Thanks for the update Jason.
Nice follow up video! Great views! Surprised they didn’t rerail that last car!
It’s coming!

As bad as E&LS track is, this section/stretch of rebuilt track MIGHT just be the BEST track on the ENTIRE railroad right now.
It probably is.
Thanks for the update Jason!
Deferred maintenance where maintenance are deferred.
PENN CENTRAL 1968 - 1975
RIP Penn Cen
I guess they don't have a signal maintainer close by to shut those crossing lights off.
The Maintenance of Way crew did an excellent job fixing the track. Thank you, Jason, for documenting the finished work. (POst on 10 December 2024 at 1331 CST.)

Awesome Jason thank you again ELS AKA PENN CENTRAL 2.0 😊
Thanks! I appreciate the support
i will have to watch this after 3:10pm tonight bc of school
Wow they actually fixed the rails good we'll see how this works out
Well I was wrong, when you originally posted this story I thought it was ribbon rail. But now that the snow is gone I can see its stick. But I was right about the replacement of some ties.

Pretty cool.
Good morning I enjoy the video👍👍
Thanks!
I see some gauge rods that add strength to the ties in curves. The best gauge rods are ties though.

What a joke of a railroad in my opinion.

Ground is crunchy up there.

1/4 mile down just 200 more to go

This is wonderful! Now if they give the rest of the tracks the same treatment it will help a lot!
That's a first about time they fix the rails right the first time

Will Squeaky Korner still squeak???
good video

I think that you meant "shoo." " Shew" is the 17th century English to mean what we now spell as "show."
@erie910 you're correct. Classic English vs. Classic slang.
Have you ever asked a crew if they'd mind being filmed? Or do you just get the sense that they regard you as a nuisance and keep your distance?
Your excuse for not filming, fails. You havevery righto video whatever you wish from any public place. Just never trespass. You can video discreetly from a distance.
Should be working 24/7 to get it done
Why dont they like u is it cause u record for ur channel ?? Thats just dumb
Because they probably don't want a camera in there face give them their respect is what Jason was doing giving them respect
@TylerDonitzen-k7n u missed my point entirerly thats not wat i was talkin bout i use to work for BN on the train we never snubbed anyone we always waved
@leslie-up7qs No I didn't miss your point
