Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy: Are we giving them enough?

It's always enriching to visit great institutions of learning and my visit to the SVP National Police Academy, Hyderabad, on various occassions, were no exceptions. At one of the elite institutions of India, all the IPS recruits, get their mandatory 12 months training here. Besides, the academy provides periodic/ round the year training programmes for the officers promoted from state services and other departments.
One finds a strong " Colonial Hangover"... And I still sypathasize with the first PM JawaharlaI Nehru, who regretted in his last years, for not decolonising the system, be it the Political, Administrative or other important aspects of the system.They are given a training of " Administer" and " Rule" and there lies the problem. It's a two way attitudinal problem, where the Police Force in our country and more so, the IAS and IPS officers have been given a higly inflated and unnecessarily larger than life Image and status. There is a complete absence of the " Humane" or " Sensitisation " part in the training and in practice.The" Colonial" mindset gives our police officers a " Godly" halo, next only to the " great Indian Politician". So, we have likes of Uttar Pradesh DGP, A.L.Banerjee and countless others like him in the Police Force across the country.... and their callous statements in the wake of Badaun Double Rape and Murder. These are the creations of such " Colonised" institutions and the " Feudal Mindset". And its high time HRD Ministry, under Mrs.Smriti Zubeen Irani takes hold of the situation and brings the much needed changes in the entire training of the IPS and IAS officers, and the Police Reforms, which everybody have been talking since time immemorial.Time to change the system where our bright officers need not always take sides and wash-up the wrong doings of their political masters for some petty gains here and there and contribute towards a just society where the law of the land and not the law of Power prevails.
