- Tate McRae was once called “a gift from God” by Paula Abdul when she auditioned for So You Think You Can Dance at age 12. More than a billion streams later, it appears Paula was on to something. The Calgary-born singer-songwriter and dancer sat down with Tom Power to talk about her whirlwind career and her debut album, I Used to Think I Could Fly.

Love how in-depth this was and how it spanned her whole career journey. The interviewer was awesome and clearly did his research.
I love seeing past interviews from Tate since I've only REAAALLY started following her mid-2023 and is so amazing to discover how much she's done from an early age and how poised she's always been
What a great interview! Tate is so charismatic, and seems so well-adjusted for someone in the industry so young.
I love how chill and humble she is about how iconic she's becoming. I can't wait to see "tatyana" in concert some day!
it’s so nice to have these interviews with Tate cuz she is so private
you can connect so good with her
This interviewer needs a raise oh my god he is so interested and calm and easy to talk to. I'm usually annoyed by most interviewers but wow he is amazingggggg
Tom Power and Q (the show) are national treasures here in Canada. A previous host was Jian Ghomeshi, and he was equally amazing. Absolute professionals and even better listeners.
She's very eloquent and in control of her career. She dances, writes, and has a unique voice...she deserves all her success and more!
Tate McCrae super refreshing and talented is scheduled to be on SNL upcoming in November 2023. Love you Tate!
This interview is everything! Wow. Tate has such a good handle on life and the pitfalls of the modern music industry already at her young age. Incredible to see. I hope she stays grounded like this and always has Calgary to go back and chill whenever she needs.
This video was in my recommendations! I remember seeing Tate on SYTYCD Juniors way back when! I never thought her career would lead her to where she is today!
I love tate, but also: what a great interviewer! Gotta watch more
Such great questions and even better answers. Awesome interview.
Thank you for this interview. It was so well done and learned a lot about her.
this interviewer was awesome. great job. very thorough!
I listened to this interview 2x on the radio & I kept hearing Kate McCray instead of the correct TATE McRAE. She's really awesome. The interviewer, Tom Power, the host of "q" on CBC radio in Canada has become my favorite interviewer. I never thought anyone would surpass Terry Gross in that category. I'm glad I found the video of this interview and am looking forward to finding the one he did with Buffy Saint Marie & quite a number of others.
She’s so humble! Love her
I heard an interview with her the other day on Q, so I looked her up and I am just amazed with this girl! I wonder if I'm the only one who thinks she looks a bit like Alanis Morrissette (when she was younger)? I don't know what it is! She just seems so familiar to me! This girl is talented as hell! I'm 39 (almost 40...) and I'm super impressed with her. (I'm impressed with you too Tom!) I listen to the show almost every day (via NPR in Utah). Anyway - this girl will go far!
wow. this is such a great interview
i love her so much
She's so relatable!!
It was only 7 years ago. How much could she forget?
great questions by the interviewer
P.S. I'm glad they don't edit out the f bomb on yt. Also at 30:00 he mentioned the new documentary on Shania Twain and being famous.
Looove her ❤❤❤❤
PenPal.....you're Killin it
Thank you, interesting.
I cant stop thinking she is exactly like if there was an alternate universe where Punky Brewster was born and raised by a regular family in Calgary in the 2000s 💕💕💕
"Tell me how you go from dance to music"
"Actually the music often starts first"
I'm glad she didn't become a dancer if only cos she has an amazing voice.
Can anyone please tell me what Tom's sweatshirt it about?
32:30
She has hella confidence that’s why she so popular 🔥🔥
