i just love watching your videos!!! and you guys are NOT ranked amateurs at all, you guys are the best guitar reviewers period!!! thank you for all your videos!!! :)
This guitar is indeed incredible, I've owned a wine red since october 2014, and I'd never trade it for anything, spent all my money on it though, so I don't have the amp to do it justice, still I regret nothing, it's amazing.
Wow having just started watching the Anderson’s UA-cam channel…this is stepping back in time! I own a 2014 traditional and am enjoying your take on it!
For many a year I've yearned for a les paul only to be disappointed after demoing them time after time in guitar store after guitar store. Then, one day, I found it. A gibson les paul traditional, I immediately bought it. Sweeter than even the historics I played!!!
I love how Bea sounds so much different (and IMO better) with that traditional than Rob does. Only goes to show no two guitar players will ever sound the same even with the same gear
Tried many Les Pauls before I tried the Traditionnal and immediately bought it.... The Traditionnal is exaclty what I was looking for.... Such an amazing piece of wood!
Out of the 5 previous videos they showed my biggest complaint was that big marshall was getting spanked by that Blackstar. That demo was the first one that sounded good to my ears. Every other guitar in the Marshall has sucked so far. Thats all I was pointing out.
So based on the series of videos so far, which of the Les Paul's would you most like to own?? Or are you all waiting for the daddy... The Les Paul Standard.
id go for the traditional ;) although i wish the 12th fret anniversary inlay was on the headstock or truss rod or something, but they sound great which is the main thing! \m/
I think I'd have the LPJ to be honest. I don't want all the fancy extras - I think the more you pay for an LP, the less you get! (Full disclosure - owned a 1980 LP Deluxe for 15 years)
I'll be getting the traditional in manhatten midnight as soon as it gets into Australia although we really get stung extra on the pricing here. Gorgeous sounding and looking guitar that I'll be keeping for all my days left thats for sure! Can't wait to get it. Thanks for the review guys. Awesome.
I just picked up a 2014 Traditional Flame. It's a limited edition model with all the same specs as this Traditional (same pickups, orange drops, no weight-relief, etc.) except it has a 60's neck, top-hat knobs, and no nibs. I'm in love with it. It weighs only 8.4 lbs, despite being solid and the neck is much faster. Don't know how I feel about no nibs but I highly recommend it to someone who is looking for a Traditional but can't deal with the baseball-bat necks.
Me likey the traditional les pauls! They remind me of the vintage ones, of a time of greater tone. A heavy les paul sounds fuller to me, and feels more solid in my hands.
You guys really need to implement a room mic or something for when you are talking. I don't know if it's the UA-cam compression but it's almost impossible to hear what you guys are saying without cranking your speakers which is scary loud when you go back to playing.
I haven't had a problem with that but then again I wear headphones and watch the UA-cam player at half volume with the volume on my computer all the way up.
Just got home with my 2014 Les Paul Traditional in tobacco sunburst. (I'm in love). This is the heaviest guitar that I've ever played -tone and sustain are legendary. The 120th anniversary inlay looks better than in pictures. I'm still laughing at the AC/DC bit -funny!! Why ruin a good thing right? Cheers
The weight depends on the density of the wood. So you can have a non-weight relieved guitar weight almost the same as a swiss-cheese weight relieved guitar. I've seen non-weight relieved Les Pauls vary from 9-11.5 lbs.
I think that the tone of a solid body les paul is well worth the weight difference. If you can't handle a 9 or 10 pound guitar, don't get a different guitar, go to the gym.
MrBingping I hear ya. I used to have low back problems when playing LPs but I was the only survivor of a head on car crash and have low back problems. I started encorporating deadlifts and hyperextensions into my work outs and I no longer have to stretch my back or lay down in my van in between sets. You are correct!
The weight also largely depends on the particular piece of mahogany and how dense it is you usually find the lighter mahogany on the more expensive models not for nothing
that standard i beautifull! but i got to say i'd take the trad because i'm a ejit and i always loved the weight of the les paul its apart of what makes them whagt they are
I have a friend who's but 16, and he plays that Extreme song twice as well as you, Rob ;b That's not a diss by the way, it's just pretty cool. The kid is a bloody marvel.
Hey guys, great show, but how about a sustain test? .. and what is the difference between the 2013 classic pickups and the new 2014 1959 pickups? Let the Captain shred a bit too will ya ol' Chap? Loved the weight test. What makes the great sound of a 1959 Les Paul, is it the density of the wood? Any theories guys? FYI, my Les Paul Traditional Caramel burst left handed 2013 clicks in at 12lb ... awesome sound ! Headin for the chiropractor right now! Keep it up guys.
Just to take into account the that if you had a plank of wood that you could make 10 guitars out of, the guitars made with the wood at the base of the tree would be heavier than those made from the top, because trees are denser and stronger at the base than the top.
bikerwilly Keep the faith. Closest I could get was a Studio 3 years ago... until today. I found an ocean blue one on clearance at Guitar Center for $1899 and am getting today!!
I need to correct Capt' on his down play of what capacitor is on the tone pot, the capacitor can make or break what sound you try to get. A resistor (on the volume pot) can carry your sustain forever when you run it through your amp. The wrong one can make a 59 les paul sound like fingers on a chalk board.
What happened to the vocal mics?? Doesn't sound like Andertons standard...sounds more like Poor Joe's three guitars for sale on Craigslist Really do love you guys!!
No matter how much i like flamey LP Standards, my G.A.S has always been for a Black Beauty style LP Custom. They usually seem to have gold hardware these days, which is way too bling for me. I do not watch Andertons' vids for info, I watch them for a guitar related chuckle. Cheers. P.S Andertons: Did you review a pedal recently put out by Tech 21 called the 'Hot Plexi"? I just got one and it is very, very impressive as a foundation stomp kind of thing.
That light blue colour on the traditional on Gibson's website looks like a 5 year old painted it with his watercolour set! I really am disappointed with the finish options from Gibson this year. The new honeyburst looked amazing on the 2013 traditional, as did the caramel and lightbursts. Now......not impressed I have to say. I was saving up to buy a traditional as well, now I think I might just not bother at all. Any thoughts on this, Chappers???
So ... the difference to a modern weight relieved guitar and no weight relief at all is only 1.2 pounds? I expected to be the differences to be larger. My epiphone (which I don't own anymore) weighed a solid 12 pounds, and I've also heard about LP's weighing as little as only 7 pounds. So the weight relief difference of only 1.2 pounds just seems a little bit like small change to me, and makes me wonder why Gibson is even doing it in the first place.
Yea, trouble is sometimes its hard to tell if its real. Lots of Chinese copies floating around, even of these brand new ones. Not to mention I need to save for a new bass and keyboard aswell. Music probs lol.
Gibson claims this "weight relieving" was a customer driven issue. The only problem is I have met Les Paul owners from virtually all over the world and from my conversations with them none of them ever heard of anyone complaining about the weight! I own a '74, '76 and '80 Les Paul and true they are heavy (all ranging between 9-10 lbs.) but I never had an issue with the weight especially since I use a well cushioned strap. Just who the hell complained about the weight? Anyone know?
as far as the weight relief isnt the neck lighter and the body slighty heavier so when the guitar is strapped its easier to maneuver while still holding the traditional weight of a lespaul ? or so i was told haha
i just love watching your videos!!! and you guys are NOT ranked amateurs at all, you guys are the best guitar reviewers period!!! thank you for all your videos!!! :)
Traditional is undoubtedly the best Les Paul, since it's what a Les Paul is. The guitar is iconic.
I personally don't watch these videos because of the guitars, but because of this great guys and nice 'n happy atmosphere !
Traditional sounds amazing!
Always very nice to listen to your show, British buddies! And realy a very cool jam! Salute from Paris.
I like how Lee has much more camera presence nowadays!
Just check some older videos and the newer ones. Huge improvement :)
That sounds perfect. When I think of rock n' roll in my head, THAT is the sound. Want.
Tried many Les Pauls before I tried the Traditionnal and immediately bought it.... The Traditionnal is exaclty what I was looking for.... Such an amazing piece of wood!
Great playing from Chappers, especially in the jam at the end!
tradition 2014 kicks asses!
Rob ur so awesome! Love ur videos man!
Regards from fan in Northern Norway!
I'm really considering getting a 14' Les Paul Traditional.
+Mitchell Wieler do it! they're gr8 i own one feels amazing to play, playing thru a 1959slp earcandy!
+Mitchell Wieler Get it! Don't worry about that 120th inlay some people are complaining about. I have one and its a very nice sounding guitar!!!
@@MineCodModhadtheopportunityofqi
Nice digs about scientific process guys! The phrase "rod for your own backs" springs to mind....
That's the best Les Paul they've demoed yet.
Obviously, and the most expensive too.
Studio or Studio Pro. I'm not one for lots of fancy extra bits
The junior! I need a workhorse :D
I think I'd have the LPJ to be honest. I don't want all the fancy extras - I think the more you pay for an LP, the less you get! (Full disclosure - owned a 1980 LP Deluxe for 15 years)
I´ll go with the traditional. I just can´t get used to the asymetrical neck. To be honest it sucks. The trad is just perfect for me
I'll be getting the traditional in manhatten midnight as soon as it gets into Australia although we really get stung extra on the pricing here. Gorgeous sounding and looking guitar that I'll be keeping for all my days left thats for sure! Can't wait to get it. Thanks for the review guys. Awesome.
Damn.. That Trad sounds Awesome!
I really want one now.
I just picked up a 2014 Traditional Flame. It's a limited edition model with all the same specs as this Traditional (same pickups, orange drops, no weight-relief, etc.) except it has a 60's neck, top-hat knobs, and no nibs.

Love your videos! I'm picking up one of these bad boys in 2 hours on my lunch break. Keep up the great videos!
As a rank-amateur UA-camr, I approve of this review.
The Classic has a weight relief, but it was a heavy piece of wood.
The light pieces in general are for the custom shop.
Me likey the traditional les pauls! They remind me of the vintage ones, of a time of greater tone. A heavy les paul sounds fuller to me, and feels more solid in my hands.
my fav version of the lp.
much better than previous traditional.. sounds really vintage
Extreme playing at the beginning :)
Wow factor. Has to be the best les Paul In 30 years. Wow amazing guitar the anniversary guitar. Gibson made it extra special what a AXE
I'm fiddling with the volume control, too!!! What could also be improved is when one of them is playing and the other says something it's inaudible!
I'm only 13 I love guitar I'm really good at it for my age and my mum is getting me a 58' reissue 2014 t model. SO OVER THE MOON!!!!!!!
Christo Prentos stay humble man haha. Im excited for you too. I got one of those, best guitar ive played yet. Hows yours?
Possibly the most entertaining video on UA-cam. Followed closely by the Ibanez artist jam where Paul Gilbert calls Tosin Abasi, "Tobin".
Epic tone AWESOME!!
hahaha, i love the look on Lee's face when Chappers says that he likes the Avril Lavigne/Chad Kroeger song!
Love it, 'cause they made it non-chambered (as always on traditional model)
You guys are great! Get a laugh out of every video
Great video as always. I think Captain Lee was thinking Chappers riff sounded like Ode to Joy
Cheers
LOL love the humor in these videos :) keep it up.
GOD DAMN IT BEA (if youre in charge of it), BALANCE THE TALKING VOLUME AND THE GUITARS VOLUME!!!!
sounds fine to me
The weight depends on the density of the wood. So you can have a non-weight relieved guitar weight almost the same as a swiss-cheese weight relieved guitar. I've seen non-weight relieved Les Pauls vary from 9-11.5 lbs.
I've owned 2 swiss cheese 04 standards that weighed just shy of 11lbs
I think that the tone of a solid body les paul is well worth the weight difference. If you can't handle a 9 or 10 pound guitar, don't get a different guitar, go to the gym.
MrBingping I hear ya. I used to have low back problems when playing LPs but I was the only survivor of a head on car crash and have low back problems. I started encorporating deadlifts and hyperextensions into my work outs and I no longer have to stretch my back or lay down in my van in between sets. You are correct!
+Steve “Southernmost” Netzel dude, then buy a SG
Rob, you're saying something about Nickelback songs, but what you played sounded a lot like Rooster by alice in chains to me!
love the vid! what happened to Part 7 (The Les Paul Standard)?
3:50 Haha, subtle. I approve of this pun!
The traditional is the model to go for now.
That whole weighing bit had me laughing - Brilliant, entirely useless, but brilliant.
Nice Extreme riffs there, Sir! ;)
The weight also largely depends on the particular piece of mahogany and how dense it is you usually find the lighter mahogany on the more expensive models not for nothing
I've got a 'Tradish' and it is beyond awesome, just want another Les Paul without a pickguard now.
I would really like to see you guys review the sg line from gibson.
that standard i beautifull! but i got to say i'd take the trad because i'm a ejit and i always loved the weight of the les paul its apart of what makes them whagt they are
Awesome video guys
hey guys, aren't you going to demo the Les Paul peace? it looks like a very nice piece of wood with the new pickups and all
I have a friend who's but 16, and he plays that Extreme song twice as well as you, Rob ;b That's not a diss by the way, it's just pretty cool. The kid is a bloody marvel.
Nuno in the house!
In the beginning the Captain is all "When's he gonna stop playing"?!? :D
Extreme! Yes!
spent a month pay plus bonus on a lp studio pro and lp traditional. Totally worth it.
He-Man Woman Hater and It's a Monster mashed together ... nicely played Chappers ... cool to hear you bust out the old Extreme stuff
I think this is the new Standard.
Great videos guys ,very entertaining and great playing .
Is the head stock on the 2014 traditional the same size as the vintage 1959 version?
Just to take into account the that if you had a plank of wood that you could make 10 guitars out of, the guitars made with the wood at the base of the tree would be heavier than those made from the top, because trees are denser and stronger at the base than the top.
This is my dream guitar. Too bad I can't afford it. Some day.
Check out Zzounds.com though. They offer 12 month payments plans and approve most people.
bikerwilly Keep the faith. Closest I could get was a Studio 3 years ago... until today. I found an ocean blue one on clearance at Guitar Center for $1899 and am getting today!!
Rob what is that lick you play on the start of the video 0:16-0:19
you played it also in
"Three new BOSS pedals to take you to another dimension!"
I have a 2008 Cherry Burst that looks just like the one Rob's playing :P
I need to correct Capt' on his down play of what capacitor is on the tone pot, the capacitor can make or break what sound you try to get. A resistor (on the volume pot) can carry your sustain forever when you run it through your amp. The wrong one can make a 59 les paul sound like fingers on a chalk board.
2014 Gibson SG Standard midnight blue w/ Seymour Duncan blackouts.
It's really funny how small Bea makes that guitar look TINY!!
What happened to the vocal mics?? Doesn't sound like Andertons standard...sounds more like Poor Joe's three guitars for sale on Craigslist
Really do love you guys!!
That last jam sounded like that old snooker theme
No matter how much i like flamey LP Standards, my G.A.S has always been for a Black Beauty style LP Custom. They usually seem to have gold hardware these days, which is way too bling for me.
I do not watch Andertons' vids for info, I watch them for a guitar related chuckle. Cheers.
P.S Andertons: Did you review a pedal recently put out by Tech 21 called the 'Hot Plexi"? I just got one and it is very, very impressive as a foundation stomp kind of thing.
Where's the 2014 Standard video?
+TheKiwiSaint I had amazing jam at the end.. :c
9:05 is it actually from a song I actually didn't get what Rob said
it was weird seeing bea playing a les paul so used to a ml1
They played Extreme right at the beginning :3
Lee, love your t-shirt, how can i get one?
OOHH MY GOD YESSS!! Love that song... "Rooster" by Alice in Chains at 10:15!!!
Go Extreme - Chappers. Nuno rocks..
So ... the difference to a modern weight relieved guitar and no weight relief at all is only 1.2 pounds? I expected to be the differences to be larger. Time for another Rob Chapman Pinch Harmonics Drinking Game!
Does anyone else ever realize that the inlays on the Les Pauls on the wall are discolored in their videos
Want one so freakin bad. These look sick. Shame on don't have $2500 to drop on one.
Yea, trouble is sometimes its hard to tell if its real. Lots of Chinese copies floating around, even of these brand new ones. Not to mention I need to save for a new bass and keyboard aswell. Music probs lol.
I like this one best so far purely because it's not weight relieved
Chappers, it seems like you almost never solo/schred up above the 12th fret on the neck pickup. What gives?
Gibson claims this "weight relieving" was a customer driven issue. The only problem is I have met Les Paul owners from virtually all over the world and from my conversations with them none of them ever heard of anyone complaining about the weight! I own a '74, '76 and '80 Les Paul and true they are heavy (all ranging between 9-10 lbs.) but I never had an issue with the weight especially since I use a well cushioned strap. Just who the hell complained about the weight? Anyone know?
kids
diddymies Yep!
Wherez part sevennn???
Waiting for a 'Supreme'
Easily my favourite Les Paul to play. No weight relief, no terribly new technology, just a few steps away from Les' original design
Differences between 59 tribute humbucker and Classic 57 ?
Are these also released in Australia?
as far as the weight relief isnt the neck lighter and the body slighty heavier so when the guitar is strapped its easier to maneuver while still holding the traditional weight of a lespaul ? or so i was told haha
Nope its in the body mainly. Supposedly, modern weight relief is lighter than classic weight relief.
EXTREME hell yeah
Would you like a little guitar with your artificial harmonics? ;)
Do a Sound like Randy Rhoads, please please please :)
They should do this with the 3 sg's
Can somebody tell me which Nickelback song they played around 10:26? thx
Every Nickelback song is complete shite and should have never have been accomplished.
