I actually studied this. Part of it is probably down to your own sympathies, but if you are the type to listen to this particular genre of music, it will become quite apparent that folk music is very much a Republican genre. Not to say that Loyalist don't play any of it, but in Ireland folk music is closely tied to nationalism (as it is most places I'd reckon). And if you have a stronger folk tradition, your music just tend to be better, because there's more of it and collectively the musicians have more experience

Hmm, a very complex situation the troubles. People must remember that these soldiers were young and trained to fight a traditional war. I’m respectful of my family heritage, and religion, and balance this with two old friends; one Coldstream Guards, steel plate in his backside, the same for another; Royal Marines. Both got blown up.
