- Baird & Co. is the only gold refinery in the UK. The company goes through over 10 tons of gold a year. The smallest gold bar that Baird & Co. makes is a 1-gram bar that's worth about $41. The most expensive one is a 5-kilograms bar worth about $212,350.

How pure gold is refined? You cant refine pure gold because its already pure.
It is chemically speaking, pure. But it is found in nature as a mesh blended in with other minerals and metals. Picture nanoparticle sized beads of pure gold embedded in rock that has many other metals. To get to the pure gold, you have to remove the things in the way. You are correct in that it is more "mining" than refining the gold OUT of the rock than strictly refining the gold itself.

I worked with metals for years and whenever I walked thru meal detectors they would ring. I would've been happier working with gold and having that stick in my body.I would've felt GOLDEN💛

Actually, the most pure refining method for Gold is the electrolysis method. The Royal Canadian Mint uses this method to produce the Canadian Maple Leaf coins. The Purity is something like 99.999% Pure Gold

Nope, they follow strict rules like ,the workers shouldn't wear gold jewellery when coming to the factory ,they are scanned completely before entry and exit of the factory ,they also blow air at high pressure on them before exit of the factory

The are aware of that and thus, they make sure that only 'trusted' workers (who have been highly recommended) work there. They also make the workers wear overalls, that do not have pockets and are colored with contrasting colors to identify if any gold dust fragment particles are on it.

Christopher Ruble it's called the leidenfrost effect. Only a little bit of water around the metal is turned into steam which makes it so that the water doesn't contact the metal and cause further vaporisation.
Also the amount of water compared to metal is very large

The only place that has ever happened was that a few thousand bars were made in tungsten by a Chinese company by someone who said they wanted some "fun souvenir paperweights". Stupid story, because the cost of a paperweight in tungsten would have been high anyway. A few of these bars turned up in India, much to their anger. It couldn't happen in the UK, because all bars are tested by a spectroscope and with a sound generator to ensure that the bars are solid gold all the way through.
